@@funnyminute7290I think that's far more cynical than even I can be. And I'm about as cynical as a person can be. I've not watched the series in its entirety, but have seen maybe a dozen or so episodes, grandpa and grandma obviously have feelings for both their daughter and granddaughters, but the estranged relationship from daughter has given them limited access to the granddaughter, and the strained relationship has caused marital problems between Grandma and Grandpa as well, so the money isn't important at all to them, if anything I suspect that the Grandpa sees it as an investment in his granddaughter to ensure she has the best possible advantage in life. He could care less if he gets any of the money, but as her only real father figure, he knows that the weekly dinner, something that has done the family unit some good, even if it is a bit strained on some nights, he also sees her taking on some responsibility and as father figure in her life he knows that the improved relationship between the time together has given her confidence enough to approach and ask. That right there shows him that the family night dinners are good for everyone involved. Especially the granddaughter.

In India.. Or Asia.. We don't have to 'borrow' money from our Parents. Its normal for our Parents to look after us, education , vacation, shopping, food, etc all of it.. Till we get job.. & even after that sometimes. And we look after them as much as we can ❤
They didn't want the money back. It started when she was 15 and her single mother couldn't afford to send her to a very expensive private school. Mom had issues with her parents, but went to them to ask for the money anyways. They gave it as long as they got regular access to their granddaughter (before this they only got to see her on holidays). When Rory graduated high school, mom paid the money back and the access was somewhat cut off again (Rorys was never consulted on this). Rory needed money to pay for college, and that's the scene that is here. She wanted to see them more often, and this gave her a reason. It's a weird family dynamic.
I asked my grandfather to rent me his old boat, to fish and give trips back and forth for a near island, i prepared a very good offer with plenty of possibilities, he got mad at me because I suggested the idea of rent and payment, he was so glad that I will be using his old boat (the same boat that fed the family and his kids, the same kids that managed to study hard and be more than the fisherman he was) I insisted on payment, his counter offer was to bring some fish for my grandmom to cook and we'd eat together, been doing that for 7 years each break I have from school, college, until he passed away during covid, and of course the boat was part of his legacy so his children sold it 😭😭😭 I wish I had my own home and job I would've bought it from my family..

Since I was a little boy, I always wanted a farm where I could keep animals that were too old or weak so that I could take care of them. My grand father had a farm and gave me some land to use just for that, I started very young, at 7 years old, and he helped me every single day, after school, with the animals, provided me with the funds and we did everything together. Decades passed and he encouraged me to become a vet and he would even call me to see his animals but he always insisted he pay for my visits. He was the only one at my graduation, shouted and cheered so loud when I came on stage, he got a sore throat. He was always on my side, backed me up no matter what. Before he passed away, he gave me that piece of land as a gift, I was blown away by it. In his will he said, "To my little Ben, who isn't little any more (I'm 6'10"), this was always your land, I was just keeping it safe for you. May you help many more animals." I still cry thinking about him as we were very close. Cherish your grandparents, they are the best relationship you will ever have with a family member. Peace.

My dad once gave me a word of wisdom that I still live by. "If you can't afford to GIVE it, don't LEND it". I have never loaned money to my kids when they were having financial problems, I "gifted" it.
I mean the grandparents probably know that they’re just calling it a loan because she has dumb 18 year old pride. They not gonna send her to collections if she misses a payment. Fr though it’s not more honorable to refuse a gift so you can ‘feel independent’ and purposefully struggle. Like it’s privileged to have parents that can afford to help you, it’s even more privileged (and out of touch) to be all “I won’t LET them help me because it’s too EASY” when student debt ruins even the upper middle class’ lives sometimes.
My dad told me the same thing and he actually loaned me a few grand a couple of years ago and I had the money back like 6 months after and he told me it was a gift for his kid not a loan then told me to stick in savings. I’m sure your kids won’t forget what you’ve done for them

@@funnyminute7290BS. She’s asking. He’s countering because he LOVES her. Time is more valuable that money and they just want to share in her life. You must not be a parent because I’d move heaven and earth to help my kiddos. Just want to be able to spend quality time with them

@@joefuentes2977Ain't no waaay
In India..

The writer really wrote a beautiful moral moment of independence and the legacy of grandparents. 💕💕💕
At her graduation, when she talks about her grandparents brings tears.
I asked my grandfather to rent me his old boat, to fish and give trips back and forth for a near island, i prepared a very good offer with plenty of possibilities, he got mad at me because I suggested the idea of rent and payment, he was so glad that I will be using his old boat (the same boat that fed the family and his kids, the same kids that managed to study hard and be more than the fisherman he was) I insisted on payment, his counter offer was to bring some fish for my grandmom to cook and we'd eat together, been doing that for 7 years each break I have from school, college, until he passed away during covid, and of course the boat was part of his legacy so his children sold it 😭😭😭

May you help many more animals." Her Grandmother was a stuck up snob.
This was like my Papa- I was crying to my mom I was stranded in Japan and he was like get her home now..I don’t care the cost. $2700 for a one way ticket to TX in 2010. Never would let me pay him back. Miss my hero he was the best. ❤
Omg a similar thing happened to me, i was on the other side of the country studying at a reputable college and I just wouldn't stop crying for weeks, I hated it. I called my dad and he paid for my ticket home the very next day without judgment or disappointment. He was just happy that I was happy.❤
I’m sure your kids won’t forget what you’ve done for them
I've never loaned money to anyone, I'll give them the money. If they give it back later ok. But if they don't, then they won't get any more from me, ever!
My dad told me something
Oh wait he died when I was 7. Nevermind 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

My dad would just take 50-90% of my checks for rent, then took all my savings when I fell so ill I was forced home--and never got me to a doctor.
Love her character here, what a good, well-raised, disciplined, strong-willed girl! 😊
May I ask the name of the film?
wow. she has some good character. most people in that situation wouldn’t even think to ask to pay him back
I wish my grandpa were like this.. When we need money for bills, he refuses and rather gives his daughter so much. He's not average, not rich, not poor, but WEALTHY.
you should ask as a loan, not a freebie. rich parent dont care about the money, its how you use it, what you can learn from it. they dont even care if you actually pay them back at the end.
Thats more like reality. Never met anyone this generous to me.
My grandmother (rest in peace) would Len you money if you asked and later she would get mad at us for trying to pay her back, eventually you would get her to accept the money but she would always get a little bit upset because she never wanted to be paid back, I loved that woman with all my heart and miss her dearly
What a wonderful, beautiful and thoughtful granddaughter. Blessings and success to you.
this tv
series is one of the best endearing. family show with a heart , family oriented , life lesson , current and relatable . One of the best tv drama series ever made. Watching made me laugh, cry, and learn a lot about parent daughter relationship that one could also apply in lives. There’s always a lesson in each story. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
