- Today we take a look at the brand new WinWing FCU launching soon, created to replicate the real FCU in an A320. Throughout this video I show you a HANDS ON review, offer my thoughts and compare it against the MiniCockpit MiniFCU as well to help YOU decide which, if any, are worth buying.

It depends how you mount the bracket. If you have it like I did;

18.5 wide x 18cm deep including knobs x 6.5cm high

26cm wide x 16cm deep including bracket and knobs and bracket tilt x 11cm high
Got mine yesterday and very impressed with it so far; thanks for telling me I could dial down the brightness, as that was one complaint. It's a bit of work to get it to communicate with MSFS the first time (unplugging peripherals, doing virtual device mapping in their app, restarting MSFS but after that no issues). My only issue is that mine blinks from time to time, not sure what causes it, but sure a firmware will fix it down the road. For $99 USD, it's a steal. Fenix was never no much fun.
Cannot justify MiniFcu cost even if I could get one. Have a few WinWing devices for DCS and they have served me well and fittings have also been solid. As UK customer usually buying from USA the new UK store is god send. Pre-ordered and really looking forward to the whole set being available. Sim app pro takes some getting used to but it’s very useful once you get the hang of it. Thx for the video makes me even happier I pre-ordered.

Great video! I’m definitely sold on it now, can’t believe the quality for the price they’re offering it at. If you’d have looked for an FCU a few years back you’d be looking £500 upwards so this is great for the market

I‘m still waiting for that too! But one step at a time, all the development in the airbus region is amazing to see, it surely is just a matter of time that someone makes a competitive MCP. With MSFS2024 and the PMDG / Bluebird products in the pipeline I think the demand will definitely be there.

It's a great product ! I've modfied mine using Axis And Ohs...so now it's compatible with CRJ and MD82 :) PMDG 737 next up !

FCU is great ! I’ve customized it for CRJ, all the NAV mode works…use knobs just as in A320 👍 Most importantly, HDG sync with a touch of a button…no more right and left click with the mouse :)

@@BritishAvgeek By using Axis And Ohs ! First of all, you don't start SimAppPro...because that will only prevent the FCU to be available for other aircrafts it's compatible with. I turned the LCD screen off in the settings of SimAppPro...those characters not needed. Then I restarted computer and didn't start SimAppPro. I'm totally new to AAO, once you get hang of it..not really hard. On CRJ, the panel is called FCP...my config almost complete :) I've got all the NAV modes programmed, Speed, HDG, Altitude + VS...it's all there ! APR as well plus switch display Mach Knots Once happy after test flying CRJ, I'm going to configure for MD82/83/88 and after that PMDG 737 series
@@BritishAvgeek By NOT running SimAppPro and configuring buttons and knobs using Axis And Ohs. If SimAppPro runs, it will turn off the FCU for unsupported aircrafts. I used the app for turning LED background lights to OFF, restarted computer so application won't run. I'll test fly today...if all good and working as expected, continue with MD82 and 737...happy days, as you say :)

Awesome video, props mate. Good to see a video of it already working properly with the fenix. How did you manage to get it to work already without any drivers available in the website?
I spoke with them over a few days as mentioned in the video dealing with their customer service to get a driver sent especially so I could do this as a proper review and show to working. They sent me a special beta version of the driver which will be ready on release 🙂

Thanks for the video! I just recieved mine, downloading driver at 30 kb per second, I am in Thailand. I assume you plug in to USB port on back of FCU, not power?

The MSFS drivers haven't been released yet no... But I managed to work on getting them over the last 2 days to bring you this video 🙌😎
10:15 Luke talks about having been in constant contact with the customer support and was using the very latest pre release driver, that as shown by the video, does support MSFS :D
@@BritishAvgeek absolute star - not sure if you have done already but if not would you have any plans to do a vid for your sim setup ? Also curious to know why you use the honeycomb bravo as opposed to the TM TCA captain throttle?
@@subllimecantona I prefer the Honeycomb Bravo as it's a much more premium feeling product but tbh avoid Honeycomb now, there is some real dodgy stuff going on with that company now sadly so can no longer say confidently they're worth your money.
@@BritishAvgeek yeh I’ve got them both Alpha and bravo and love it but as I’m trying to fly the fenix (learning) I’m really considering the TM TCA Captain pack- it just mirrors the real thing and will go nicely with FCU when it arrives.. 😎
I pre-order back on March 27th. Are people getting them already? I haven't got the email to yet to pay for it. Can someone confirm?
Once I saw the price I wrote off even considering the MiniFCU, wouldn't even care if this was 'slightly more cheaply made' but looks like it's pretty comparable anyway!
The full size makes this much easier, for me, to deal with the knobs and buttons too as they aren't all tightly packed into a smaller unit by comparison
You can dial in the brightness and backlight of the unit ingame with the proper dials of the airbus. So no need to do this in the software. Pretty nice feature.

Althought the showcased other mcdu and panels shown at expo are don't on there website anyhow atm.
I keep posted on these as those look nice and great look/price combination - one to watch.

Any idea if there will be compatibility for Boeing aircraft? I know it’s less than ideal, but would love to have a single solution for all my airliners.
It is. There are videos already of people using this with Boeing. In MSFS you just need to map the unit to the controls.
Personally I'm not sure as I haven't had time to check and fiddle with it in other aircraft but if I do, I'll make another video

I personally don't have a problem with Minicockpit miniFCU, just got it a few days ago, and it is very good, but if winwing can come out with the complete setup quicker than Minicockpit them I will get the winwing set up.
@@andy70d35 they're both good but the connectors on the WinWing look/feel much better and give me a bit more confidence about them clipping together safely without breaking.
@@BritishAvgeek the connector on the WinWing is a standard SATA connector (more commonly used as the data connector between HDD and motherboards - before we started using M2 drives), also found on the TCA Airbus quadrant to connect the additional levers. I guess the miniFCU is just a custom pin and plug setup.
At this rate I will need to purchase a USB Bus.

How did you set-up the unit to work with MSFS? MSFS will recognize the unit but, nothing is mapped.
It's definitely nice to have options which brings down the prices. Numerous companies making Airbus components and the prices definitely vary. I'm happy with the MiniFCU so far (and thankfully being in the US, I didn't have to deal with any additional customs fees).

Looks really good. I'm glad I ordered. Is there no way to make the numbers on the screen on the whiter side though? I thought some Airbus's had a lighter color now.
Yeah the MiniCockpit display is a bit "whiter" but perhaps that is accurate to the more modern A320s? Haven't played about enough yet to change any other settings but couldn't see a colour option in simapppro
I really hope this can also be programmed via SpadNext, otherwise I will keep using my minifcu as I can use it with any plane. I am also curious on what it means between data and streaming modes?
That would be great... Though I really struggle to understand and use spadnext personally 🫣 and the data/streaming modes I'm not 100% sure what it means yet
Pre-ordered the moment it became available, winwing is well known among figter simulator like DCS and BMS it wil be my first winwing product, but I know their quality will be good and if something is wrong with it their customer service is one of the best there is

Hey, I was wondering if I could get any help on a different aircraft. The CRJ in MSFS is giving me problems as I cannot set my selected altitude higher than 5000. Been looking around and I couldn't find an answer. Thanks!

One random question as I can’t find the answer. I saw on a video about winWing apron 2 HOTAS that it isn’t compatible with Msfs. I see you using something else in the video but you know if they work well?

To be honest I don't know but I'd assume not as the software specifically seeks MSFS.

Enjoy it when it comes, I have both this and the miniFCU as compared in the video and tbh I much prefer this WinWing. The positioning and size of the knobs are much more natural and easier to use, and it's a LOT cheaper!
@@BritishAvgeek 100%. I am blessed to be in the cockpit of new airliners everyday such a350, A330 so it will be good to see how it feels compared to real thing.
Can you comment on how the AP1, AP2 , A/THR etc buttons feel versus the minifcu? Thats my one issue with the Minifcu. Those buttons feel cheap and clilcky versus the real FCU.
They feel the same to be honest and just as clicky (I just ran back to the rig to press a few more times...) though perhaps the larger scale of the WinWing makes them feel a bit better to use but there's not much in it imo

They're increasingly popular and people want to enhance their immersion with tactile feel of stuff similar to the real thing - no different to use getting a Boeing TCA with "pendular balance" or whatever marketing thing they call it 😂

yes it does I personally work with the Chinese government and we get all products sent to us before they are sent to the USA and can confirm that it works on the pmdg 777300er

My miniFCU was only £216, just to clarify the price as you said it would be near £300. Ordered mine before this one was announced.
Yeah there's the main price on the website which includes shipping but for some people they've had to pay "hefty" import tax etc pushing the real terms price higher

It's still double the price in Australia for an inferior unit that's not even full size
It would be cool if they made the fcu light controls in the sim able to adjust the background/integrated lighting on the fcu

How did you mount it? I received mine today but after mounting the brackets, the unit won't hold the angle. Always fall forward.
I mounted it using the outermost screws with the brackets going out behind the unit as shown in the video sort of - and 2 sticky pads under the bracket to hold it in situ, sits really well and hasn't budged since
@@BritishAvgeek Only with sticky padas. I put the brackets on the side and like this it holds on the desk without any other support. Anyways, this is done to be "sticked" to something, I think there is no other way. Thank you!
Btw, in SimAppPro, everything works fine but inside the simulator, nothing happens. In the Environment Checks of the SimAppPro, everything is green. I don't have any drivers because they are not available. Am I missing something here? Do I need the drivers? How can I get them?

Did the driver automatically configure the winwimg to work with msfs?
I managed to get hold of the test version of the driver which is being pushed out imminently ready for release so I could get it working for the purpose of this review 🙂 it's plug and play as they said with the SimAppPro program and it auto detected the aircraft when I had loaded in

Thanks Luke, a really descriptive review. I know they're doing the EFIS panels aswell, but I hope they do a full set of hardware for the Airbus. I just like the fact that it's full size and the quality hasn't been compromised.
It's coming along well and I'm told the EFIS is not too far away!
Thank you for this review! I bought it, but haven't received it yet. On the other hand, I regret my purchase of the TOBII head tracking (which you also have), because there is no keyboard key to freeze the movement of my head on the filghtdeck buttons I want to adjust (all the reset keys return to the pilot view). Totally unusable for cockpit operations!
Great to hear you enjoyed the review 🙂 re: the Tobii eye tracker... I need to tweak it a little more too as you say it always re-centres which personally I like but the head movement is still a little jittery for me
Luke, excellent review, looks responsive and impressive. I see the driver for Windoze is available, even updates?! Was the installation fault-free, or were there any "gotchas" to veware of?
Nope once I got the driver sent especially to me for the video it installed itself in the app and restarted. Then I booted the sim and bingo
Maybe I will get it, not sure yet..
What's great is we have the choice of a few product options now at very different price points 🫡

How did you get your simwimg FCU working? I received it and downloaded simapp pro but I can't get it acually working with the simulator
check your antivirus as it may be blocking parts of the program

Hi mate, Do you know the weight of the Winwing Fcu? Coming from the logitech panels which have served me well but there real cheap lightweight plastic ;( If this has weight behind it its a done deal. though I did see you move it easily by mistake in the video when you mentioned you broke the sticky pads ;)
The sticky pads are surprisingly sticky so had to yank it off them to show the back 😂 it's lightweight but feels sturdy if that makes sense. I haven't put it on any scales though!
0.5 kg is the weight. On their website there is manual pdf you can download which gives weight and dimensions.
i got mine yesterday but can't seem to set it up anyone knows where i can find help to help me?
Have you downloaded SimAppPro and got Version 1.13.0beta minimum? It should let you also update the firmware for the unit as well within the program and it needs to run in Admin mode.
Do this before launching the sim, then boot it up and it should work
are you using Rudder pedals on your sim? if so which ones do you use, as i would like to try and master the Airbus but have a hard time doing so as i can't seem to control it on the ground
Yep! Got the cheapest ones on the market, the T Flight HOTAS rudder pedals from Thrustmaster.
I've set the sensitivity as per the Fenix recommendations for the Fenix A320.
WinWing make some nice looking rudder pedals on their website too but haven't tried them
just had a quick look at the they do look very nice, i was thinking about going to the Velocity One Rudder Pedals, as i said i would really like to master or at least become more comfortable with the A320 but taxing and even more so trying to go down the runway is very difficult trying to keep it in a straight line

Yeah compared the miniFCU the WinWing FCU looks to be a little more on the older style of A320. There's seemingly no way to change the colour of the LCD displays but to be honest at £100-£150 less I can quite happily not be too bothered about that 😅
If only they’d make something like this for a boeing.

They'll have the opportunity to revisit their own product and consider not only pricing but e.g. the poor quality connectors in the miniFCU by comparison so it'll be interesting to see what happens with that.

How did you get to the install to work i thought they didn’t have a file published yet
I got an early beta version of the driver prior to release. A few of us got them shipped out early for reviews etc but I waited 2 days to get the driver sent before putting it to a proper test
shoot.. i already bought the other one for $260
Ooft 😅 the MiniCockpit miniFCU is very good too but this one wins hands down, especially when the WinWing EFIS isn't too far away either 😎

Good question, at this point Neil I'm not sure tbh and personally I find spadnext very confusing and hard to use 😂
In MSFS, yes, you can use with any aircraft

Cat3design makes a great tiller for the airbus. I’ve had mine for almost 2 years and never had any issues with it.

Beware of the quality of winwing. Internals are crap and prone to breaking down
I know of quite a few who use their hardware for DCS and praise the quality of their hotas and throttle kits etc... and this FCU is a great bit of kit. Sure, yank a knob it might break but that's physics... Normal use wouldn't get close to breaking it

Does it only work with Fenix? How about Fbw, latin vfr+headwind mod? Thanks
@@kelvinTran55 I mentioned in the video before takeoff it works with the Fenix A320, FBW A32NX and default A320 and will do on release
I have both Virpil and WinWing devices for DCS for many many years all the units of both companies work perfectly. I carnt speak for new items but existing ones have been great. My Maine Coon cat (monster) ripped some rubber buttons off one of my WinWing display units but was easily fixed and works great. If it survives my cat it’s strong 😾
