Diamonds are expensive. We get that, but why are LAB Grown diamonds so expensive. Being a manmade version of something would make us think that it would be cheap and inexpensive. Yes, they are not nearly as much as their natural counter-parts, but one may feel that the price gap should be larger.

Lab creation of other gems also requires knowledge, research and investments and yet they are much less expensive than lab diamonds. The only significant difference seens to be the presence of a lab report for the diamonds. But I still feel that the price has to do with demand and marketing.

Thats why there were a hundred's compression chambers in that photo, Lol... and as a broad you should appreciate or at least use too, there is nothing but natural, oh thats right you are into tansformers' rights now. Frauds tempted you with faux diamonds and in all your devoid responsibility you accepted it, now your stuffed.
The real answer to this question is simple and applies to everything sold. An item's VALUE is what someone is willing to pay for it. You might think your diamond/house/car/etc is worth X amount but is all someone will pay for is is 1/2X then that is what it is REALLY worth. People dont like this but it is reality.
Seems like these Diamond Jewelers hate the lab-grown diamonds but I actually think they're great it's allowed people that wouldn't normally be able to afford a diamond for their wife to be able to buy one and still have a real 100% genuine diamond
I'm in Jewelry sales and my team and I LOVE the lab growns. Yes I like selling the earth mined cuz it's more $$ and I get a bigger commission, BUT when people are on a budget or they just aren't interested in trading uontheir diamond later, I take them to my LGD collection.
More bang for your buck. And most of the time for the lower budget, the LGD is much clearer and sparkley

Very nice video. I thought we'd share how we purchased my fiancé's ring. We looked at both natural and lab stones, the natural stone was $20,500 and the similar lab stone was $4,200. Her ring ended up being an oval cut diamond in a Halo setting. We were told about resale of natural vs. lab grown, but after determining the resale for the natural even if there was zero resale for the lab created, we'd still be money ahead. (We were told that we'd be lucky to get $12,000 if we sold the natural, so even if we got $0 for the lab, we'd still be $4,000 ahead)
Long story short, we purchased the lab, got a report from a reputable lab, saved money insuring it, and are going to use some of the money we saved for a nice honeymoon. (The stone was 1.77 carat E VS1)
If I was rich, maybe we'd have purchased the natural, maybe not, because she's so happy with the ring we bought. Best wishes everyone!

I am not at all sucked into the whole diamond thing, lab or mined. Moissanite however seems like a great option. More flash and less cash. And, for me their more romantic then diamonds found in the dirt LOL.

Vecuse they are synthetic they do not have the same chemical composition as a real ruby sapphire or Emerald. They are like cubic zirconias
@@galegrazutis964 Well, that's not true. Lab grown rubies (sapphires) and emeralds are just the same chemical composition as natural ones. I suspect it's because it takes less time and the machinery is less expensive.
The way I look at the price.
$20,000 real vs $7,000 lab
If I were to keep and resell the real one would I sell it for $13,000 more. Very very doubtful. Go for the lab diamond and put the extra $13k into a house deposit.
Knowing it takes over 200,000 lbs of earth to move to find 1 ct worth of diamonds motivates me to get the lab grown, and price of course. Plus, it's a 100% real diamond.
200, 000 lbs of earth per 1 carat of rough diamond is a proof they are extremely rare. On the other hand in Mozambique you can get several carats of rubies per ton of Earth.

Well, did you not know that lab grown diamonds are also damaging the environment? If you're so considerate then you should be motivated to get the CZ and call it a day, also don't drive or use a bike, and only eat what you grow in your backyard...ohh don't cook using a stovetop either, you know what, smoke can be damaging to the environment too, don't cook! Just eat raw food.

Just like moissanites in the near future lab diamonds will have an overflow or mass production then it will be cheaper. I remember when moissanites 2ctw stud earrings would sell from 700 to a thousand dollars at qvc, now I can get a nice quality moissanite studs for 60 dollars at amazon

Are synthetic sapphires the equal of natural in terms of chemical makeup, purity, color, clarity, brilliance, beauty, etc.? Does the difference in price result from the fact that one is common and one is rare and that therefore the demand is much less for a synthetic sapphire?
In large part it is strictly the rarity aspect, but there are some differences among synthetic sapphires. They are not all "grown" the same. Some varieties look more "unnatural" and are more easily identified as synthetic. Often, lab grown have specific colors they are known for being.

It is my opinion that folks are paying more money for a lab grown diamond than, say for a moissanite or lab grown emerald, is that they're paying for a diamond. It's all marketing.
I would really enjoy it if lab grown diamonds eventually become like other lab grown stones. Then I could have all my fun trendy jewelry with diamonds instead of CZ’s 🙂
Or.you can do more research and get moissanite instead of CZs and lab. They are dirt cheap and have more brilliance than a diamond. They also are dirt resistant, scratch resistant and lasts forever like diamonds do. You can also get them in any color you like.

You ppl don’t understand politics lol. While the argument remains “lab is real” then why is the resale value of precious synthetic gems not valued as “real?” So if our precious synthetic gems aren’t valued as real, then neither should the diamonds. The ONLY reason why the argument for lab grown is “real” is bc ppl want diamonds. Jewelers know if they advertise they are real, then they get your money and can up charge the price. And yet the same argument does not apply to synthetic gems. The resale value is like 2 bucks for even a rare synthetic sapphire. These stones are still graded by a gemologist, and are recognized by GIA, BUT they have no worth? But lab diamonds do?
Not buying this. Until all synthetic gems are considered worthy, then I refuse to buy a lab diamond. If I spend a lot of money on a piece, I want to know it’s worthy.
You realize that a natural diamond of a small size has no value either right? 1ct are the most popular diamond size for engagement rings. You can spend 8k on a 1ct engagement ring and it will loose 1/2 it’s value as soon as you walk out the store due to the high markup. If you go to sell that ring 10 yrs from now you’ll be lucky to get 1k. Diamonds, unless they are rare or of a large ct don’t hold their value. Lab diamond are 100% real diamonds they have the exact same chemical and physical properties of a natural diamond. They are recreating the way the diamond grows in nature just in a lab setting. They don’t hold their value bc they aren’t rare. They can produce thousands of them in a short time period. Some lab grown gemstones are indeed fake. They don’t have the same chemical properties as the natural ones. We should not be using the word synthetic to describe lab diamonds or lab gemstones that are 100% identical in every way to their natural counterparts. Synthetic means fake and the price will reflect something fake. As for real lab gemstones having not value the same applies. If you can mass produce something (real or not) it is no longer rare and the prices needs to reflect that

Is it possible to tell the difference between a lab grown Diamond from a natural one?
Potentially. But it's a lot like comparing furniture made of natural wood vs grown wood. There's a lot of guessing and sometimes you still can't tell.
Most diamonds, at least the ones available for a reasonable price on the market, have impurities. Pure diamonds are made of carbon atoms forming a specific lattice. Impurities are a few other atoms got in the way. Natural and lab grown diamonds both have impurities, but lab grown diamonds tend to have a lot less because it was grown in a controlled environment. For natural diamonds, purity is usually an indication for quality, but for because of lab grown diamonds, suspiciously pure diamond at a lower price range is a tell. Natural diamonds can have a wide range of impurities because of the randomness in its formation. Lab grown diamonds tend to have similar impurities for a specific growing process. So if you're aware of typical growing process available right now, you can analyze the impurities through UV rays. (Which also means some natural diamonds will unfortunately be labeled as lab grown with this type of analysis).
Then there's imperfections. Lab grown diamonds tend to have less imperfections, and when they do have imperfections, it's tied to a specific growing process. Natural diamonds tend to have a lot more randomness in its imperfections . But this is a lot harder to do, I don't know how feasible this is, even in a lab.
Lab grown diamonds can certainly improve/change the techniques to avoid detection, but there's not a lot of reason for doing it. Like the video has said, the research, equipment, and energy cost of lab grown diamonds are enormous, and it's primarily done for industrial use. Faking a few natural diamonds is not ludicrous enough business, when the diamond supply chain can be chased for larger quantities.

No, my jeweller only knew when he looked through a loupe and saw it was stamped LAB with a number after it, it tests as a diamond on all diamond testers because it is a diamond, there is a machine however that was made just to tell the difference because the high end diamond dealers felt threatened by these man made ones
My theory is that they are inflating the cost of natural diamonds so that when synthetic become abundant and cheap the natural will keep their value and yes you can test for natural diamonds they have a different internal structure to that of synthetic.

Aren’t lab grown diamonds worthless once you purchase it? So if it’s not that much cheaper, wouldn’t the better option be to get a mined to retain some sort of value?
They do retain value on the market, perhaps not back to big jewelers but private buyers etc will still take it. Just not as high % returns as a natural diamond.
Lets say a lab diamond is worth 20% of the price you paid for it out the door, compared to 40% for natural diamonds. Being that a lab diamond is usually around 50% the price of an equivalent natural, you end up retaining more money for lab growns.
Eg. comparing two diamonds of equal cut, carat, colour and clarity;
$10k Lab grown diamond sells for $2k.
$20k Natural diamond sells for $8k.
If you went for lab grown you'd end up with $2k + 10k(cash that wasn't spent) = 12k.
So, if you intend to sell the diamond in the future, you potentially retain $4k more.
If you DON'T intend to sell the diamond, you just saved $10k.
An earth diamond will retain between 50 and 60% of its value. I just bought a lab grown True Hearts 1.12 Carat F VS1 for $2500. To buy the same earth diamond would cost $ 12,000. If you went to sell the earth diamond you may get back $6000 to $7000 maximum. That’s a loss of $ 5-6000. If I went to sell the lab created diamond at it was worth nothing I would have lost $2500. So tell me who loses more? I get the same real diamond, same cut, clarity and colour. No one can tell the difference, even using a diamond tester. So the earth diamond loses $ 5000 and the lab $2500 is lost. Don’t buy into the earth grown diamonds are the best and they hold they’re value nonsense. Because it is just nonsense. Do the earth and your wallet a favour and buy a lab diamond.
@@MrLencar83 yep. 6 years ago bought a 10k 1ct heart and arrows AGS ideal as an engagement ring. For Xmas just bought a similar lab diamond as a diamond pendant necklace. Wish lab diamonds would have been around 6 years ago lol. Because unless you are desperate to raise cash fast, nobody EVER sells their diamonds. And most jewelry companies offer lifetime upgrades on diamonds (even the lab ones). So unless earth diamonds start to retain crazy values, it makes zero sense anymore to buy an earth. And people who say investment, blah, blah…no true investor puts any money in jewelry….
@@MrLencar83 exactly! Amazing how many people don’t actually run numbers before making statements. Out of curiosity I called a few places to see what they would buy my wife’s diamond (not selling) and offers were in the 40% range because as they explained to me, they need to prep for sale, then have to carry costs until sold if sold, etc. You know basically explaining why they they want to give me as little as possible. Like you any jewelry I buy for my wife is for her to have until passes so could care less about resale, she has all of her mothers jewelry and my mother has already put instructions on what pieces of hers go to who. To me spending $12,500 then losing @ $6,000 - $7,000 makes zero sense when you have the option to get the same diamond with only a $2,500 loss. But I get that many don’t recognize lab grown as diamonds.

They usually refer to them as lab grown diamond(Lab Grown Diamond report as an example), but they also accept using "synthetic" as a synonym for lab grown and lab
created. Semantics are important though, especially in jewelry.

Money is tight, so I've been looking at lab grown diamonds. I've been doing a LOT of research trying to figure out what's the best for my situation. I want to give her an amazing looking ring, but the last thing I want is her to think I got her a fake one. I only have a budget of like 3-4k if I get financing. I know that the ring looks MUCH more impressive with lab grown, and I'm hoping I found my forever person, so we don't have to sell the diamond.

Lab-grown diamonds have no resale value, meaning no jeweler will buy it back. If you try to sell lab-grown diamonds to a jewelry store, a pawn shop or on EBay, you’ll get pennies on the dollar for it.
Regardless, due to massive profit percentages and deceiving tactics of price comparisons to a real
diamond value, it becomes easier to convince some uninformed buyers shopping for engagement rings or jewelry pieces to lead them choose a lab grown over a natural diamond. Often many jewelers indirectly encourage their clients by comparing prices with “real natural diamonds” but not disclosing the real resale value and more important long term investment factor of this emotional purchase.

No jewelry store in my area would buy my 1.5 ct natural mined diamond either. 🤷♀️ They all said they don't buy diamonds. I only found one used jewelry shop that would by it. They offered me $500 for a ring that was over $6,000. I just kept my ring.

They are legitimate, but I don't know that they are as rigid as AGS or GIA. With that said, Lab Grown diamonds usually aren't as likely to have those two.

Lab grown diamond should not be so expensive as they are. I prefer the moissanite diamond. My question is why are lab grown diamonds so expensive when they are not the actual blood diamond itself. Diamonds are so over priced and definitely not worth it.

My lab diamond cost half the price of a mined stone and no one can tell the difference unless they look through a loop and see that it is stamped as lab. It tests as diamond, it acts like a diamond because it IS a diamond it just cost alot less than one from the earth.
Tests like a diamond depending on which equipment is used to test the gem.
