I met my Korean husband on TanTan app … I’m Eastern European ..Serbian … if you are looking for more of a traditional man Asian men in general are looking for that too …but perhaps my husband is a bit rarer because he didn’t ask me to be his girlfriend.. I became his wife right away instead… and this may seem shocking but even in my traditional Serbian culture there is no such thing as boyfriend/ girlfriend and the word fiancé and engagement rings didn’t exist (all just marketing schemes in my opinion) …. When I was single dating was horrible for me. As a nerdy, scrawny, insecure and awkward Asian American male growing up in the 80s and 90s I’ve always felt like I was at the bottom of the dating barrel. The media and American culture didn’t do us any favors either in how they portrayed Asian men.
I had to work on myself physically and career wise throughout the years and I felt that each year that I got closer to adulthood things got better.
I didn’t get married until I was 34 but before then dating was rough. Rejection was hard but I had to take it and move on. Eventually later on I would look back and thank my lucky stars that those women rejected me.
34 is young! I'm way beyond that, and still nowhere close to getting married.

Dating is hard in general, for me I had 0 play with girls until university but I had to get a LASIK, skin care routine, general style improvements, going to the gym and getting myself into shape (I’m still obviously 18+ body fat) helped me immensely. Before the reaction from not even girls but people in general are much less receptive to everything I did but now days I can tell I get “more” in return in everything as well. To my brothers I say at least start with going to the gym and start slowly improving, the results will come bros.
I’d say it’s a little easier but dating in general is still a shitshow and is only getting worse.

Instead of ghosting, wouldn’t it be more polite to just tell the person (in person, via phone, email or text) that you’re not interested? I’m a young boomer/old X’er and we had to break up/reject this way back in the day. Is ghosting now acceptable behavior? It seems spineless to me. As a Latino/Hispanic man Im happy to hear that my fellow Asian men dating has improved tremendously in recent years. I've been lucky with dating my whole life. Never had issues dating beautiful women from all races. I've even introduced women to my friends because I wanted them to leave me alone! Just be confident, don't take crap from anyone, and talk to the ladies. Keep your head up. Work out, learn martial arts, and focus on yourself. I guarantee you won't have issues meeting someone if you do all the above!

I see skinny or fat Asian people at gym and few other places..as much as I want to help with nutrition and workout..they don’t seem to be motivated. That really pisses me off. I get lot of hated on for saying but I don’t really associated with Asian community as a whole anymore because they seem to be about money and study and not really focus health and other things in life. I do talk to some asian people but they don’t seem to support my app to help themselves.

And I've dated non-Asian women throughout my adult life. You do realize that there were other Asian men who dated non-Asian women in those decades too right? I’ve never had too much trouble dating but I am mixed and I often feel I’m seen as a “brown man” before I’m recognized as Asian. That being said being Asian is a broad thing when it comes to appearance and I’m glad it’s getting easier for my brothers.
I'm 57 and still enjoy hearing this. It was much tougher in some ways when I was younger but looks better but ended up going back to the Philippines to date. Great views like always.

It’s easy if your willing to put in the work and invest in yourself ! Average American male is broke and fat . Just going into the gym consistently and learning skills to make yourself good money gonna boost your confidence and the way you think about yourself . Find something to be passionate about and surround yourself with good friends and people and you’ll become a valuable person . You’ll have your pick of the litter but it’s not easy and it takes years to build yourself up! Do the work !

It's notably easier and acceptable now compared to 10 years ago. But it'll never be ez-mode compared to asian women's dating lives because of their high sexual market value.

I think it's harder in general for men since more women exclusively use dating apps instead of regularly going out to social events or other in-person events after the pandemic. They have even more options than before.
Agreed it’s more of a wash. Asian representation has gotten better but women’s standards have also gotten way higher than before. Unless you find a girl who is a weaboo or koreaboo it’s going to still be difficult for an Asian man. I’m 6ft tall, fit, and got something going for myself, so I’d like to say I’m above average to some degree. I’m also in California and the girls are more stuck up here than let’s say the Midwest.

I dated a Irish girl for 8 years and she was into anime to some degree even though I was her first Asian BF. Asian culture in general is celebrated globally too. Yes it was more difficult dating in the 90s for myself, an East Asian man. And even back then, Asian women idolized White men ( Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt….); while disparaging Asian men (short, ugly features, bad breath, chauvinistic temper).
It was not until I realized dating, and playing the field was not a traditional “Asian” way for courtship. For myself, once I established my business, and dated for marriage did opportunities appear. Some ladies were 10 years younger but most if not all were non English speaking new immigrants.
So my morrow is, find out the traditional way of courtship in one’s culture and follow that path, and consider women from the “old country”. I have been happily married for 24 years to a HK girl. Good luck to all.
Asian dating is like entering another world of cultures. Asian are dwelling successfully in Americans culture. But, it may be opposite for Americans to dwelling in Asian culture. So, Asians are adapting well to dating Americans. But, Americans are not easily yielding to adjusting to Asian cultures. Culture acceptance will change the tone of inter-racial dating in America. 👍

It got better for East Asian men. It definitely didn't get better for us brown/desi guys, I would argue it's just as bad or maybe even worse now than it was 10-20 years ago.
As a British-Filipino, I always assumed that you guys always had arranged marriages. For us Filipinos, sometimes I question why we don't have that in the first place, but usually for us it's being around the right circle of people (which I'm assuming is the same for South Asians as well ?) but unfortunately people like myself didn't grow up amongst other Filipinos.

I have had 37 “girlfriends” since I was young. I’m 51 now and married.
All of them were white except one.
It was simply because that was all that was available to me growing up in the 80’s in the bay area.
That being said, it was a challenge but if you have a personality and are confident you will attract woman.

Definitely easier. when i was a kid, i was bullied like crazy and did not think women would find me attractive because I am asian. I do put a lot of appreciation towards kpop because in the eginning, all the girls that were into me liked kpop. Bts changed asian masculinity and attractiveness and made it so more and more western women found asian men attractive. I am short but I took inspiration from the street style BTS had sometimes and got a lot more dates. Now I've hooked up with more women than my white friends...but I would say latinas like asian guys the most. white women are second but I find they flake a lot, maybe because they are desired a lot. I have no luck with asian women.

A Friendly reminder to my Asian brothers living in Western countries to keep in mind. As the perceived "sex appeal" of your men increases over time, so will the hate towards your men from the majority demographic.

Yes, its easier, if you date younger, a lot of Millennial and GenX women are still fixated on race, not just white women, all races. GenZ girls are less racist and more open minded, as long as you're athletic, have a decent job and are independent you have a good chance. I usually don't bother talking to women *in a romantic way* over 34 because they usually have that race mindset.
This is highly contextual and it depends on how you define "easier." If you're talking about the realm of online dating, Asian men receive the least amount of matches statistically, compared to men of other races. If you're talking about the effects of hallyu, that's limited to the flower boy types, not your average Asian guy. Even though the Internet has made it easier for people to connect regardless of geographic boundaries, this advantages more women than men, in general. Also, there's a phenomenon called "hoeflation" where men are required to put in more effort to acquire a lower quality woman compared to men of past generations due to female hypergamy.

I'm 60 and let me say dating for an Asian men was tough all round back then. And it is impossible now. I'm resigning to the fact that I'm going to be single for life. Back in the 80's, dating Caucasian girls were impossible. I just won't waste my time on it. You can't even ask them for a dance at a nightclub. You get a big reject.
