@@megacabI have an Olympia and have also had a Neptune for like 3 years now, and I love acrylic! Looks amazing, and scratches can be polished out very easily
Evan, I've heard that "flyback" refers not to the chrono hand flying back, but the aviator wearing the watch. It's a feature for a return flight. Of a bombing run. I can't find if that's true.
Hi there! The flyback feature was used by pilots to help them navigate. It was much easier, faster and accurate for them to hit just one button (while wearing thick gloves to keep their hands warm at altitude) rather than the standard start / stop / reset. BUT, I do see the logic of your comment too. Could be a little bit of both?
@@oakandoscar Your explanation supports what I've heard (from another watch guy). "Flyback" seems like a marketing term to me, and those have usually a singular origin. The first one was Breguet, wasn't it? I'll look into it...
As a watch enthusiast with NO budget, thank you MAMACOO for great-looking mechanical watches that I can afford! their are very clean, classy look, $150 each. I still watch videos about expensive “proper” watches, but I enjoy what I have
Do they test all of their watches for 100 meters (either all or selected random samples throughout the year) and then say 50 meters on them? I'm just curious.
Hi Rouben! All watches are tested at 5atm WR. A random sampling are tested at 10atm. Everything (case, gaskets, thickness of the sapphire etc) is rated for 5atm so that is what we officially go with.
Hi there @fieldwalker ! Chase here from Oak & Oscar. The center seconds hand will automatically reset, and stop, at 12 if the chrono function isn't running. When it is running and you hit the reset pusher it will reset to 12 and then keep going. If you hit stop, then reset, it will reset to 12 and stop like a standard chronograph. Hope that helps and doesn't add to any confusion. It's hard to write about how it works...happy to jump on a video call and show you!
@@oakandoscar was he maybe asking if the caliber can take leaving the chrono run all the time? The answer to that is yes. It will not break the movement. It will probably lower chronometry and surely shorten power reserve. A few extra pieces will show some wear, but similar to that of the pieces showing the time...
There's a whole lot of value packed into the Atwood with the bespoke AMT5100 and the high quality materials. You'll find other flyback chronos with a similar quality at higher prices. Plus, we do all of our servicing in-house right here in Chicago by our own watchmaker. But yeah, it's not a cheap watch but it's worth it to those that value what we've been doing for the past nearly 10 years.
Thank you! We're very proud of the Atwood and are so thankful for the positive response from folks. Feel free to reach out if you've got any questions!
Nice to see MAMACOO show a watch that can be afforded by almost anyone rather than these pieces costing thousands and thousands which are out of reach for so many.
There's something so nice and satisfying about a manually wound chronograph. I think it goes back to my love of the Speedy. Manually wound just feels right to us. Plus, it helps keep this watch the thinnest chronograph using this movement. Win win!
@ I appreciate your response, and as I’m new to some aspects of chronographs (like the fact that a Speedy crown doesn’t screw in), that does make the manual winding more practical. So I did what any normal watch nerd does-went to your website. And signed up for updates. And am very impressed with your Atwood, and damn it, maybe a bit too interested now 😄. It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. MAMACOO watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real.
