I have no preference, whatever goes with the watch. Plastic is cheaper to replace, and easy to polish out scratches. Anti reflective properties can also be added to the plastic instead of requiring a coating. Sapphire great but plastic definitely has it’s place still
Fell in love with it when it first came out as an LE, but of course missed out on it. Was able to get in on the 2022 batch (went with a salmon+BOR bracelet) and I enjoyed it greatly. Sold a Samurai that I fell out of love with to fund it and it was totally worth. A lot of other similar watches on say, Aliexpress use the same movement but the MR01 is the only one that pulls it off with just the right proportions and design. There's just something about the small case that really gets me. I do wish they contoured the case a little more so it wasn't so blocky, but it does give it some much needed presence too. The non-hacking bugs me when setting the time, but apparently Hangzhou already had so much trouble putting together a micro-rotor movement this small for this cheap that they couldn't manage to fit hacking in anymore. With this and the new 38mm Seiko 5KXes, us small watch enjoyers are eating real good these days.
I heard the 7:30 subdial is because the movement was apparently designed for a 4:30 crown. A little bit of modernity serendipity when putting it into a more traditional case.
I was fortunate enough to visit the dealer in Paris which was really the coolest dealer you can find with their laid back atmosphere and homey feeling. I ended buying the MR01 with blue dial and to be honest I wouldn't mind it to get even smaller maybe at 35mm or 34mm. these watches look better when they are smaller but then again i'm accustomed to wearing smaller watches and my wrist is small. The issue with modern vintage style watches is that they are always large and defeat the purpose of buying a vintage looking watch. but with baltic you get the same dimensions without the vintage mechanical issues and this is my i'm leaning towards microbrands at least the vintage inspired ones.
Well, thank to this video I was reminded of this watch and of me wanting a colourful dial. I did manage to order one, so thank you. Hope it lives up to the hype.
I bought one of these for my brother in law. I’m not sure he really liked but graciously accepted it. Wish I’d kept it. Beautiful watch so nicely designed Oh well
I bought this as wedding watches with my wife in blue and salmon. She does not wear jewellery but I could convince her to get a watch. This one is special enough to stand out from the crowd and being a bit special without breaking the bank. I am surprised how good it looks in different situations. While it’s not a tool watch it’s not only for dressy situations. It’s perfectly fine to wear to the office. She also loves seeing the movement which is better looking than a Miyota or Seiko movement. It does rattle a bit and mine had an issue when we first got it. But Baltic quickly fixed it and it’s been keeping time very well. I agreed with you about the bezel but it has definitely grown on me and I find myself staring at the watch with a smile on my face every day I wear it. And is that not what this weird hobby is all about?
Another fantastic video! Your quirky and irresistible charm is a great match to tour us around the quirky charm of the mr01. It wasn't completely clear to me, it sounded like you might be saying that radial brushing is concentric circles. If so, I invite you to look into that point further (e.g. a vintage Omega dynamic case) and evaluate. If not, never mind.
I recently bought a 36mm Rolex Explorer and love it. This has now really switched me on to 36mm watches and how good they can look even on a reasonably large wrist. I will be trying to purchase a salmon dial on 1st June
This looks like a great watch and I am sure it is because I bought another watch with the same movement for a lot less money which I think is also a great watch. Lobinni Interlaken. Please let me know if I am wrong and the movement is not the same or if the other aspects of the watch featured on this video has some other things that make it better for more money.
Good stuff as always Mr. Terrific. Feel the same way about the bezel. Seems excessively flat (if that's a thing) and too wide for the dial and case size. Would have preferred something more like their HMS or Bicompax 003. But still, overall a great watch from a great brand.

I have the salmon dial version. Lovely watch. It’s a nice “his and hers” watch - my wife wears it on the beads of rice bracelet and I wear it on the green leather strap. Easy to change with the quick release bars.
Just curious what straps you use with this? I struggle to find the exact right colour or texture and keep bouncing around. I would say that in addition to the beads of rice style, I do think a Milanese strap looks pretty good with this, but again... yeah... I do not find that the Salmon goes well with any of the browns. Am looking to play with some green, but it needs to have some texture otherwise I find that a clean fresh new leather watch strap just doesn't seem to want to fit with the more "vintage" aesthetic.
Boxed sapphire will bump up the price considerably if they decide to put one because of the production cost and labor cost to fit the crystal, but a boxed mineral glass is still a better choice compared to hesalite. Hesalite has that vintage charm which fits the watch. Or they could have gone with a double domed sapphire crystal.
No! the bezel in my opinion absolutely needs to be flat and just polished! One of the greatest features of this watch. No one really does bezels in that style but patek maby..
I love my MR01, but it does run fast. No big deal to me as I just adjust it when needed. With the clarity of Hesalite and the contrast of the hands and numerals, legibility is excellent in all but the darkest of conditions. It looks classy in any social situation.

It can't always be about style, though, can it? Assembly-line watches. That's one example, but I'm sure everyone can cite thousands of other instances of sameness. It is the path to boredom. That MR01 from Baltic has a micro-rotor. Amazing! And it appears to be regulated, which I don't recall you mentioning in the video. Does that make this a chronometer-like watch? If so, then the price makes this a remarkable and collectible item. Some people like Seiko's Dolce dress watches because they have high accuracy quartz movements that rate at +/- 5 seconds per year. For their price, which is similar to the MR01, that is an incredible achievement. High accuracy quartz isn't quick and easy to produce. I don't like how they look or feel, but what it does and what it accomplishes inside is what counts. EDIT: Nevermind. Turns out the movement in the MR01 is garbage and they should be ashamed for putting "regulated for 5 positions" right there on the bridge.
I am a noob. Can you replace a 20mm leather strap with a 18mm on a watch that sized to fit a 20mm one? Or maybe 20 mm straps that progressively downsize to like 16mm at the tail and the buckle.
I bought both the silver and the salmon. My biggest issue with these watches other than the microrotor being not only loud and a bit "sticky" and not smooth at winding (needing a bit more aggressive shaking), is that I do find that the lugs are a bit disproportionately wide. I am a "carpenter of children" so my understanding of design is a little bit limited, but I still do think if they narrowed the lugs a bit, the whole design would be just a little bit more elegant. It would create a bit more of a visual taper that to me would just make the whole case look a bit more elegant where as the lack of narrowing makes the whole case seem just a bit "fatter" like most of my patients with bowed legs. I just feel like the lug width for a 36 mm case should either be an 18mm or at least the dreaded 19 mm. Keep up the great work!
You hit the nail on the head - I was about to buy one last year, but the flat wide bezel prevented me. Either making the dial 1mm bigger, or rounding out the bezel (or stepping if you want to be pp5070 fancy) would have made this watch look a lot better. With these microbrands you're paying for the design, so something as obvious as this is a no-no.
I had this watch and sent it back 1 day after receiving it.. The quality is not there, it feels flimsy, you can hear the movement rattle, the bracelet felt cheap. Very disappointed as I had some decent hopes about this. I would certainly save a bit more and buy from Longines if I was in the market for an entry level automatic watch.
I had one of these before and pre ordered a June one in the Baltic shop in London. They are super nice for the price. I agree there is something odd with the bezel. It’s flat but not in a satisfying way.
Just fell for the hype. Got my hands on the salmon dial today. Definitely not worth the price. Maybe a bad comparison but Seiko makes better watches at this price point. MR01 Watch is flimsy and puny. I definitely prefer micro brands but not happy with the quality and finish. Sorry.
Couldn’t agree more. Lightweight and flimsy… and I’m comparing it to a UG white shadow. Lug width too big for case, 18mm would have been right. Movement makes scratching noise and there’s a grinding sensation felt on the wrist. Actually keeping decent time but compared to a 60 year old UG micro rotor, which is silent and smooth and keeps time just as well… it is all show. The case is just lazy. All polished and that flat shapeless bezel collects scratches for fun. The dial is poorly executed and the applied numbers look like chromed plastic. Nothing finely done or impeccably finished and it just looks as cheap as it feels on the wrist. In contrast, I bought a Nivada Antarctic Spider for twice the price at the same time and It still blows me away every time I wear it. Baltic should have spent more, charged more and they might have had a real winner that elevated them. As it is, overpriced
Ended up returning mine. IMO felt it wore smaller than it’s 36 diameter. With its size,it just all seemed too cramped on the dial which is a shame because I enjoy the aesthetic of it.
I put two bad scratches on my MR01 as soon as I got it. I couldn’t get them out with any of the common methods. Baltic won’t send me a crystal and wants I think 120 euros for me to send it back to them for a new crystal and service. I haven’t had the watch a year yet. These two scratches are so bad it leaves shadows on the dial. Horrendous to look at and horrible plan to fix.
DON'T buy any baltic watches, they are garbage. I ordered their MR01 for 605 euros, paid in full, in advance. I received the watch 7 months later. It ran 9 MINUTES fast per hour (not 9 seconds). The b.o.r. bracelet was very cheap, I have $100 watches with vastly superior bracelets. And the return process was a nightmare. They couldn’t: find my address, couldn’t send a prepaid return label. Wanted to refund my money to paypal when it was not used for the purchase. So I paid for the return shipping and they committed in writing, to refund the shipping cost. Then they refused to pay for the return shipping cost after receiving their returned watch. This company is wildly incompetent, and massively dishonest.
As someone who has been collecting watches for more than 4 decades, I would say that the only thing that could make this perfect is if it were 34mm. That would complete the "retro" look and it would be perfect on my 7 1/2" wrist.
I mean, a microrotor for this amount of money is pretty insane if you ask me. I can’t believe that nobody is trying to make a modified calibre of these movements to open up their potential to the wider market.
@@mankdemelord6974 Yeah its pretty cool to look at. To be honest, I would rather have a closed back with a Sellita movement (even if it means the price goes up silghtly)
Great video. One data point - there are masses of vintage watches available for well under $1000, let alone $5000, equipped with the finest micro-rotor movements ever made. E.g. Buren, Hamilton and Universal Genève. So personally I'll stick with vintage as the Baltic looks incredibly overpriced to me in comparison. I recently picked up a 60s Hamilton Intra-matic with the world's very first micro-rotor movememt for $200. Servicing and parts weren't cheap at another $250 but for me it's special to have the original genuine article. Oh and it's 14k solid gold, not stainless steel.
Good for you...what do we care...the 1960 intramatic was meant to be worn on ladies wrist due its dainty dimentions....the water resistance is none existing... has a plain boring dial. It has no display back to show off the movement.
I bought two of these because I couldn't decide on the color. But upon receiving them I was immediately disappointed. The 36mm and thinness really was a turn-off on my 6.75" wrist. 36mm wouldn't be a problem but with the large bezel and case shape it just doesn't look right. My 37mm grand seiko has a much larger dial and feels so much better. This is truly one of those watches that is best in pictures or for a sub 6.5" wrist.
According to Lorier, who use domed plastic crystals religiously, sapphire actually would be cheaper nowadays.
According to the flipppers, steel is more expensive than gold.

In contrast, I bought a Nivada Antarctic Spider for twice the price at the same time and It still blows me away every time I wear it. Baltic should have spent more, charged more and they might have had a real winner that elevated them. As it is, overpriced
Is that a chinese or german movement? Hun who?
its chinese, swiss microrotors cost a lot more.
What watch on your wrist? Much more interested on that one :)
Ended up returning mine. IMO felt it wore smaller than it’s 36 diameter. With its size,it just all seemed too cramped on the dial which is a shame because I enjoy the aesthetic of it.
Indices, logo and hands are too prominent.
Patek Philippe 5000 or 6000s have the subdial as a mirror image to this one.
Look like china movement?
I put two bad scratches on my MR01 as soon as I got it. I couldn’t get them out with any of the common methods. Baltic won’t send me a crystal and wants I think 120 euros for me to send it back to them for a new crystal and service. I haven’t had the watch a year yet.
These two scratches are so bad it leaves shadows on the dial. Horrendous to look at and horrible plan to fix.
Aquascape or bust.
So I paid for the return shipping
and they committed in writing, to refund the shipping cost.
I love this watch as a whole. The only thing that bothers me about the Baltic MR01 is its Hangzhou movement
@@Seongjinkim agreed
My only problem with this beauty is the movement… Literally not a single watchmaker outside of china would even try to service it.
For the money - no brainer
Nice ad bro hope it was worth it 🙏
I bought two of these because I couldn't decide on the color.
What a crying shame. I would probably go for a 40mm.
No sapphire crystal. Unacceptable
