I think he was the most original and creative, maybe even in every way, but I think he definitely was as a rhythm player. The chord voicings, that he used, or riffs for melody and rhythm. Who Knows is a very simple pattern, but it’s just so tasty.
Yep totally agree, my favourite Hendrix songs were always the slower stuff like Wind Cries Mary, Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand. Beautiful tone and unique timing/feel.
His Rhythm guitar was out of this world. Ala his RnB days in the early 60s. His opening at Monterey Pop with Killing Floor is still my favorite of all time. You Got Me Floating has always been one rocking tune...
@@kdavis63 Yeah, it a fun one to play, too. I think they have the all the Hendrix BBC stuff, available now. There were several versions of Drivin South, besides the one on the original release.
Hendrix may be the only true genius in rock. So many things about his playing blow me away, including his ability to sing while playing his intricate rhythms and fills. That's a separate, impossible talent altogether that few even consider. The most natural, original musician ever to grace the earth
Your so right about his singing being part and parcel of his sublime talent. I've seen maybe a handful of players who can quote Jimi's playing astoundingly well but I haven't seen any SING with the same dedication.
@@ScottStevenson-sh7kn It's all about the voice. Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and so many from that era had incredible voices. Also good singers, but to me the voice is the main thing
We see what you're doing, man. Lure a bunch of us in with our mutual love for Hendrix, Fogerty and SRV, and then BAM! We're all subscribed to a cat channel. 🙀 Well played, Pilgrim. Well played.
Fantastic lesson and terrific playing Thom! Even little kitty enjoyed that! Very early on Jimi played with the Isley Brothers. You can hear his influence on Ernie Isley's playing in "Who's That Lady", one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded in my humble opinion. Hope that all is well with you and your family! 👍👍🎸🎸
You have the Hendrix tone nailed. I also love to see vids like this that are digestable. It basically seems like 2 ish chords+rhythm muting and a riff. I haven't picked up the guitar yet but I will based on this. Thx man.
Fantastic job here. I always rated Jimi's rhythm playing even better than the solos. Maybe it's because I can do a fairly bad impression of his lead playing, but the rhythm licks? No chance! His timing and groove is just something else. Have you done a video on Castles Made of Sand? That's probably one of my favourite guitar parts. 👍
I know it’s hard to find, but listen to the ‘Live in Winterland’ intro to ‘Killing Floor’ which is made up of variations of these licks. It is absolutely sick guitar playing. Great lesson man, as always, man!
Hello, new to your channel. After seeing a few tutorials, I had to subscribe. you know you stuff and a great teacher as well, your an old soul! Thanks! Quick question please, on your feed on " how I get my tone, you never talk about your white Strat. Can you tell us year and model and if it has the stock pickups or what brand? Sounds great as well! Thanks for your time and teaching and awesome playing!
Thanks. Hendrix is such a rich source of guitar information. Frankly I believe that much of modern Neo-Soul is inspired and derived in large part from Jimi and Curtis Mayfield voicings. Also are you still using Guitar Rig for your amp sim?
Bwa-ha-ha! You got Bono-Bombed. He's got good taste in rhythm. Nice that your index finger & thumb wrap all the way around the neck. That is a stumbling block for my stubby digits.

Jimi was not only a great lyricist, song writer, singer, musician and lead guitarist... he was probably the best rhythm guitarist of all time...

Totally agree. He changed guitar playing from a black and white world into a psychedelic burst of colours.
Very Psychic. And Funk A Delicacey. 🙉😮.
That's Why He Was a Threat to So Many
Individuals. 😬. And Was Terminated.
YOUR CAT WAS DIGG'N IT !
This song kitty approved! 👏👏👏
Even the cat feels the groove!!!

Ever hear his Radio One Killing Floor?
It’s faster, and cleaner than Monterey. That’s my favorite version, except I wish he jammed a little longer.
@@CorbCorbin I really like Drivin South from that CD!

I'm from Brazil, I'm always following your channel. thanks for the video.
Woowee! I love this rhythm lick! Jimi was great! Your cover here is truly amazing! Much respect to you!
Bono really like jimi
00:35 hey, cool song, man, love it.
Super video....! Thanks for another great watch!
Great day when Thom shows up with a lesson! Thanks again sir!

Insert dad joke of kitten here: ____________
That's truly amazing. No effects, you nailed it for sure.😮
Oh my this is gonna be my go to lesson for this one whole day 😂😂 thank you!!
That was a nice breakdown of the rhythm
Seems like I haven't seen any content from you in a while. Always enjoy your stuff. Thanks again
Great lesson, thanks for breaking it down in chewable parts. You da man!
Good job man, thank you!!!!
outta sight vid! Greg’s cover of YGMF is outstanding too
Top lesson cool strat sound
Love your channel and how and what you teach. The old white strat sounds great 👍🏻
you got fans on two and four legs as seen ......cause you`re fantastic !
Hendrix used the middle and bridge pickup while strumming near the neck. My cousin personally knows Eddie Kramer who told him how Jimi got his tones.
That is a 2024 model year kitty!
Still has that new cat smell 😍
Love how you play brother !!! 😁
Yes
man, you got it! rockin 🤘

Gypsy Eyes, one of my favorites, is much the same technique.
Very cool

yes!! ?"you got me floatin'"!!!!!
Wow!!! (the both of you)
Nice one
Your channel was already great, but you made it better by adding cats! 👍
Favorite, cuddliest video. *meow* 😍
How do you eat an elephant? ... One Bite at a time! (Disclaimer: I do not condone eating elephants!) Great breakdown of how to approach this song! 👏👏👏
The cat!❤😂😂😂😂 name: vodu child( slight return!!!😂😂😂😂😂)
Nice haircut !!!!
That’s what I dig about Strats. You can get percussive with it easier than a Les Paul.
Even the cat knows Jimi’s cool….Because Jimi was one cool cat.😻
10/10 guitar content
12/10 cat content
That kitten is like "DOOOOOOD!!!!!"
I’m always curious sir. What do you use for an amp? You always have really good tone

Keith Richards said that Jimi had a wonderfull rhythm guitar skill
The kitty is feeling the groove! I take it you stay away from tweed
Why is it, most Guitar Players like and have cats!
Jam on, Brother!
You definitely got that Hendrix Vibe going on, Clean!
When you are explaining can you turn off the effects? It's easier to understand if the sound is clean.
Nareszcie coś sie dzieje na twoich filmach 😀😀😀😀😍 .......... mam 14 kotów............

Cat is going crazy. 😂😂
I wonder of you're still getting your tone from Guitar Rig 🤔🤔 Sounds great 🤘
Yep, i still use guitar rig, works fine!
❤️🔥
Frusciante learned his lesson)
Can really see where frusciante got his chops from
It's called muscle memory'.😉

🐈🎸👍👍
your kitty bono cool
Kitty Hendrix
Cats are great
En même temps si simple et si difficile...
😺
And those low e string single notes wont sound like this if the body of the strat is too heavy. Need to get a lighter one.
The Cats on Jimmy's steroid
Dude..seriously..
Nope Terry Kath was a thousand times better, Hendrix was a messy guitarist.
