I'm happy some folks took the time to film trains back in the day, so future generations could see what it looked like. I imagine back then, it was commonplace, but so much has changed.
The memories live on with the Kantner Brothers movies. Closest you'll get to joining Arch and Bruce in their train chasing days. Great scenes and great production by JPM.
PS. Oh yeah. And thank you for putting together such a well done and historical series of films. They will be enjoyed by many for years to come. Thank you.
Talesin- God of the Internet.....I'm sure there were early episodes of crushed cabooses when they started to add pushers to heavy freights. I hope no one was in the old wooden frame cabin cars when they tested them. I'm amazed at the coordination between engineers at the front and rear of a long train going over mountains signaling each other about applying power at one end and and brakes at the other by using their whistles. Awesome trainsmanahip.
I'm assuming the lackawanna detours were the result of the flood of 1955. I love that T1 pushing but eh camera didn't stay on long enough to get the number.
5:12 This looks like Edward The Blue Engine pushing Gordon The Big Engine up the hill on Edward and Gordon (Edward Helps Out) Thomas and Friends season 1
Great video! All those Baldwins, EMDs, FMs, and steamers: fantastic! I have a quick question, there's a certain locomotive I'm quite fond of, Lehigh Valley Baldwin DRS4-4-1500 #200. Did the Kantners ever get footage of this engine?
Hi Bruce, all our programs are available on physical DVD media only. There is not enough interest in streaming our programs to justify the expense of the upfront costs and time necessary to make the programs available in 2 or more formats for viewing

Mike is undoubtedly the best railfan narrator........busy guy!
So exciting to see such great 50's era trains in amazing scenery. Hard working, gritty railroading at its very best. Thanks very much for sharing.
Great clips.I was born in 1943 so I got to see steam. This is like being there. 👍🏻👍🏻

Love.these.old.train.videos
This is my absolute favorite Era from the 50's to the 70's . Steam and early generation Diesel.
Running boards atop the frieght cars is something you don't see anymore! Wonderful video.
Vic M.
Big Mike makes these vids. His knowledge alone is remarkable, but his voices completes the narrative.
I'll pass this along to Mike

These are so interesting to watch. Thank you for continuing to share what you do
Superb picture and sound quality for 8mm film.
the voice as gravelly as the coal , great narration
That Penn RR centercab loco looks so Mint. Looks like a Baldwin DT2000 but the windows on the loco look different and no flares on the cab entrances.
whoever was in a caboose with a locomotive pushing it had balls of steel
And hopefully ear plugs.

Great content. Loved the Baldwin RT 624.
Great video! Uh super 8 mm with sound! I was hoping Bob would've commented on the rare PRR BALDWIN CENTER CABS.
Saw that, too. Reminded me of the EJ&E units in Indiana.
Wow nice Historic Footages
Those tenders at the end were interesting.
Talking over the sound usually irritates - the narration here was great! Really added to the film - thanks!
kels94 he is awesome he sounds like Ernest Borgnine
Big Mike really has a future commenting on rail videos.
Always great to have info provided by someone who was there.
That’s hoping he don’t have a fifth stroke
His voice does ruin the crisp railroad sounds.
@5:38 Looks like that N&W y class 2-8-8-2 had an Atlantic Coast Line 4-8-4 16 wheeled tender attached to it...
Yes, definitly!
Yes it was. N&W had I think 5 of those tenders in back of Y3a's.
The Baldwin centercab was a nice surprise.

Wasn't aware of there being 8mm sound cameras in the 50's
Excellent video. Rarely do you see Baldwin transfer engines (especially in new condition) or AS-616's.
I know we’re still operating the Leigh Valley Diesel locomotive #112
unos reportajes impresionantes ojala estuvieran doblados al audio Spain
5:12 This looks like Edward The Blue Engine pushing Gordon The Big Engine up the hill on Edward and Gordon (Edward Helps Out) Thomas and Friends season 1
They should do this awesome quality to jackmp294.5’s 8mm videos.
You need to tell Jack. We've offered our services to Jack in the past, but he presumably was not interested
What type engine @ 1:40?
Baldwin-Lima center cab locomotive
Thanks! A Baldwin diesel, cool!

man, pennsy was a fan of baldwins for branches
The Narrator is great he sounds like Ernest Borgnine
Really? His voice drives me nuts lol.
Narrator is Mike Bednar Anthracite Coal Region of PA Native
