Can these be bisque fired upside down so the top is flat on the shelf to help with it not slumping or warping?
Yes, I bisque my cake plates upside down.
I have tried several times to make cake plates and the top always slumps...how do you avoid that?
To prevent slumping, , I make sure to throw the stem at least 2/3 as wide as the widest part of the cake plate.
how much clay did you use to throw this?
6 1/2 pounds of clay
Lizi, a regular 9-10 inch cake plate is 3 1/2 lbs
That's for a cake plate without the pedestal
