thanks for sharing...educative... I remember going on vacation as a kid with my parents...I love main...we were going to old orchard...I returned when grown up....such a beautiful place ..and warm peoples...I had a lobster there in a restaurant close to the pier....the waitress told me it was the morning caught....and it was so fresh...
Forgot to mention. In 1973 (I was 5) the family went on a ride-along, remember it like it was yesterday. and still got the pics. Can't imagine that Ol' Captain is still with us today! I remember the trap buoy was also displayed on the roof of the wheelhouse for all to see. That way other fishermen knew who to shoot when crooked watermen were pulling traps that weren't theirs! LOL! Great vid, bought back many memories. Last few years I've been visiting family and raking clams in Chesapeke Bay in waist deep water.....man is that fun. And can be quite tiring!
Very nice video. Explain please how long time the traps stay down also do lobsters walk on the bottom in certain ways or paths? Is is becoming harder to catch? What kind of bait you use and say you had a hard time catching anything in an area so do you change the location? Please explain as much as you can. My family appreciate the hard work you do and I can easily explain why lobsters are not cheap. Thanks again.
My grandfather was a fisherman, he would always go out on his boat and catch lobster and other salt water fish. Good times, nice boat btw and have a good one!
Thank you Captain. Beautiful morning weather. I miss Maine. Oregon coast is totally different....... ain't no lobsters out here....... Video brings back memories:)
Damn I'm in love with these lobstering vids. I just quit a 14 year plumbing career to walk the Appalachian trail. When I get to Maine in Oct I'd love to find my way on to a rig like yours. Tell me, whats the best way to convince a captain to trade some of his wisdom in exchange for a hard days work from some one who's green?
I could almost smell that ocean air. Been to Maine a few times and it my favorite place. Lobstering seems like hard work but worth it. How often do you check your traps?
Way up in the bays we fish singles to get in and around rocks, but as we move out we go to pairs, triples, quads and then to 25 trap trawls...I agree fishing is different everywhere....
Keeps the rope from running the whole length of the boat and if i were carring more gear on the stern it keep it from pulling the off....I have 700 traps and am satisfied with one lobster per trap on average.
I live in Steuben now....But i was born and brought up in the village of Sorrento....We had a trailer that sat right where that house is next to Buddy Trundy to the East... Whats your name ?
Whats that bucket of water for on the side of the boat for? and how many traps you got? also out of those traps, how many on average lobsters do you get? Thanks
@aaadream .....All done with just a flipcam.....The underwater shot was the flipcam in a waterproof housing and duct taped in the trap.....No fancy equipment here !
Just curious, how much do you sell the lobsters for? By the pound, I would assume. What is the average weight per lobster that you keep? It looks like a relaxing(at times) way to make a living.
While setting the trap out it keep the rope from running the whole length of the boat....I may have stuff stored on the stern that I don't want accidently pulled overboard....And it keeps the boat cleaner !
How calm was that water when you got to the dock, was that not something. That's the kind of peace and quiet you only get when from downeast Maine. Damn good video Capt. Just a real pleasure to watch. What's up with all the traps? Is it because of the time of year or something? That's a lot of traps.
Great vid Capt ! Cant believe how shallow the water is there, in Australia we fish for lobster (crayfish) in depths up to 80 fathoms (480feet) of water... Keep the vids comming man there great ! :)
You would have to be a sternman...That would mean, depending on the boat, an income of between 20 to 40 thousand a year....Almost impossible to get a license to fish on your own...I been on the ocean all my life....Love it !
Very nice video, thanks for posting. Would love to do this line of work someday.I live in Mass and I grew up fishing out of Plymouth mostly. Is this year round or are there certain months when you can't go out? Being Portuguese we have a deep respect for the ocean. We are taught this at an early age. One last question. Where abouts in Maine is this? Thanks again Cap.
You would have to work on a lobster boat and participate in the apprentice program and then be put on a waiting list to buy a license....All the while purchasing the gear to actually do the job....Then you have to hope the other fishermen like you enough to let you set gear in their territory....Sounds easy right ?
OK so it is basically one or less keepers. Probably about .75 keepers. Don't know if this is the average day or not but seems like a lot of work for little reward.
I know it must vary a lot, but how many keepers would you get on an average day? What is the largest number of keepers you have had in one day? I loved this video, it brought back a flood of good memories. Great job!!
Capt. John's Bar sounds about the same as here. ( northern new brunswick on bay of chaleur. Season starts day after tomorrow. 1700 must have been a long one that day.
thnks dude,,,for sharing the video,,,,beautiful places ,,,,btw im living at kuala lumpur cities,,,,nextime please uploads many2 video like this,,,,,i like it,,,,,
We loved watching your video. We just made a video about lobster fishing in Maine and like how this video showed you hard at work. Do you normally go out alone or do you sometimes have helpers?
So what do you get per lobster or per pound? How many do you have to catch (average) in a day to pay expenses? Frankly, I don't know how you guys make a living at this...I take people fishing and even on a day when the fish don't bite...I still get paid.
NICE VIDEO DO YOU FISH TRAWLS OR JUST SINGLE GEAR EVER TRY THE DINNER PLATES AND BUNJIE CORD RIGS OR ALL WAS BAIT BAGS WISH WE COULD FISH WITH A T SHIRT ON LOL DIST 34
now I see how there can be a high cost for lobster. that's a lot of diesel, bait and equipment involved for what can result in an empty pot, or a pot full of youngsters. i just heard the price lobstermen are getting is so low it doesn't pay to go out... tough job.
That was fascinating. Thanks for takin us along Capt!
Thank you ... good video .. nice boat... as a lobster fisherman from Nova Scotia ... good work brotha....
thanks for sharing...educative... Great video. Seems like such a peaceful and relaxing job! The water is beautiful.
Definitely neither of those things 99 percent of the time the water is shitty and it’s not peaceful boat smells like shit

Why does it seem like the boat is spinning so fast
I was watching this video and thought man you know thats just gotta be the best thing to do.
dont u get dizzy driving in circles?
Thank you Captain. Beautiful morning weather. I miss Maine. Oregon coast is totally different....... ain't no lobsters out here....... Video brings back memories:)

RobesHD true it’s hard
Cool vid.......thanks for taking us along!
Nice video! Very interesting technique with the spinning boat, never seen any fisherman do it before actually
@riverside03 .....It about 100 to 200 hundred feet deep when i move the traps outside the islands in the fall...
I could almost smell that ocean air. Been to Maine a few times and it my favorite place. Lobstering seems like hard work but worth it. How often do you check your traps?

Capt. Thanks a lot I watch your videos and thanks for sharing all that experience you have
Thanks for the ride-along.
what are you looking for on the tails near the end of the video
?
In the beginning of the video i said my sterman was sick that day and at the end i show the banding...Thanks for watching
That was an entertaining video. You really know what you are doing. Great Job.
Thanks
@Gilldabeast ....I got a stereo on board but its hard to hear over the engine.
What can you expect to make lobstering? Or rather what do you pay a deck hand... seems like my ideal summer job this year
I just returned from a week in Acadia NP. The most beautiful sights I've ever seen. Are you ever looking to hire, I'm looking to move!
Loved the video! the water's so quiet =) such a relaxing job
cheers!
@kookiemoose .....Yea it was a beautiful day on the water....Every fisherman starts in the bay and it gets a little crowded for sure...
I live in Steuben now....But i was born and brought up in the village of Sorrento....We had a trailer that sat right where that house is next to Buddy Trundy to the East... Whats your name ?
anyone else laugh when he throws the lobster back?
they just go "weeee"
@200mmonster ...In the bay it is only about 10 to 60 feet....
Whats that bucket of water for on the side of the boat for? and how many traps you got? also out of those traps, how many on average lobsters do you get?
Thanks
so what would your stern mans job be if he was there?
@aaadream .....All done with just a flipcam.....The underwater shot was the flipcam in a waterproof housing and duct taped in the trap.....No fancy equipment here !
Just curious, how much do you sell the lobsters for? By the pound, I would assume. What is the average weight per lobster that you keep? It looks like a relaxing(at times) way to make a living.
Curious about the meaning of the bucket of water on the washboard.
Just keeps the boat cleaner not having rope run down the whole length of the boat setting the traps back out.
What is that water draining towards the bottom of the video?
Thanks for the vid.....i know what to expect fishing here in New Brunswick.
You make it look so easy but I know its hard work. Thanks Again M8
i'm sure you could buy one online....I build my own in the winter usually.
love it john! my uncles boat is the "Lamb of God" ill be up there this summer! ill prob see you!
While setting the trap out it keep the rope from running the whole length of the boat....I may have stuff stored on the stern that I don't want accidently pulled overboard....And it keeps the boat cleaner !

Good man I fish MTK NY the same way hard to find help that shows up everyday last year I went through 5 guys. Good luck and all your videos are good
I work on a lobster boat I scrub the buoys I banned the lobsters and measure them hard work but it's worth it
Maine Wilderness yeah, you get a good chunk of money if the lobsters are good
I would love to do this one day to experience what its like i loves lobster yummy
I love it great video !! Great camera work too !!
what year is the boat cause the wheel for sure isnt a 1980's
I just got sick spinning in circles and I’ve been on a boat all day
I wish that was me on the boat with ya this week !!!
What's the bucket on the side of the boat...with water , I assume....in it?
It keeps the slimy rope from travel all the way to the stern when setting back, easier cleanup at days end.
love your videos
You would have to be a sternman...That would mean, depending on the boat, an income of between 20 to 40 thousand a year....Almost impossible to get a license to fish on your own...I been on the ocean all my life....Love it !
what is it , when you trow them back?? size?
whats the bucket of water on your washrail for?
Hi there. how can i get a trap like that
Awesome video , gotta love lobsterin'

Very nice video, thanks for posting. Would love to do this line of work someday.I live in Mass and I grew up fishing out of Plymouth mostly. Some lobsterman do it all year but most take a brake during winter

NC Birdwatch I average between 600 to 800 pounds....I had 1700 pounds in a day just this year.
Capt. John's Bar sounds about the same as here. ( northern new brunswick on bay of chaleur. Season starts day after tomorrow. 1700 must have been a long one that day.
Great vid, thanks for posting
thnks dude,,,for sharing the video,,,,beautiful places ,,,,btw im living at kuala lumpur cities,,,,nextime please uploads many2 video like this,,,,,i like it,,,,,
Where is the water from the red tank going? How come that tank never empties?
It's a constant circulating tank to keep the lobsters alive and just overflows onto the deck and out the scuppers in the back of the boat.
where do you get a rope puller not electrit?
Dang, looks like a lot of Traps out there.
I thought lobsters were fished in deeper seas...but i see, you can fish them in shallow waters to.
my first ever lobster trip thanks for the ride!! btw loved the bull joke you posted on my video.lol
I have been on the water most of my life and i assure you that i do not keep egg bearing lobsters.
We loved watching your video. We just made a video about lobster fishing in Maine and like how this video showed you hard at work. Do you normally go out alone or do you sometimes have helpers?
The Spin Of The Day I have a sternman, but he was sick that day.
Cool videos. Enjoyed the ride
@classicoutboards ....I was never much on working indoors.....
How I wish I could work the same as you
How does a lobster manage to get through all those pots in that last part of the video
I wonder that myself at times!
@resinator1 ...I should get into that because i get asked alot....But at the moment i just lobsterfish and sell them right at the dock !
do you know where i could get a job as a helper?
How do you recognize which floating thing is yours?
Everyone has a different color scheme or pattern
Thought about doing this but im a light house keeper assistant
How many traps you fishin?
I don't know about him but I fish 70
I do 10 fleets of 15 large, so 150
We do 300 here in California
What were you throwing out back to the water?
Small lobsters, crabs, and old bait.
Capt. John's Bar im guessing v notches also? What month was this?
Christina Martel I'm in the bay so I'm guessing July.

@mbyr31 .....Nice day on the water !
@chaseme81871 ..It sure was a nice day to film it !
So what do you get per lobster or per pound? How many do you have to catch (average) in a day to pay expenses? Frankly, I don't know how you guys make a living at this...I take people fishing and even on a day when the fish don't bite...I still get paid.
I think the boat was built in 2001.
Capt do you only do pots?
Yes, singles in the bay, pairs and triples outside.
What is the name of this boat?
Capt. Morgan
NICE VIDEO DO YOU FISH TRAWLS OR JUST SINGLE GEAR EVER TRY THE DINNER PLATES AND BUNJIE CORD RIGS OR ALL WAS BAIT BAGS WISH WE COULD FISH WITH A T SHIRT ON LOL DIST 34

Arent you making anymore videos in 2015???
Jim Mantych I am, but my daughter is with me for the summer and doesn't like to be on camera.
do you use a plotter
+chris gallant Yes i use a chart plotter at times, especially when i move outside the islands
now I see how there can be a high cost for lobster. that's a lot of diesel, bait and equipment involved for what can result in an empty pot, or a pot full of youngsters. i just heard the price lobstermen are getting is so low it doesn't pay to go out... tough job.
ive been on the waiting list for 3 years zone D.....its very impossible haha
Capt, Do you need assistant?:)
Every fisherman has their own buoy color and pattern.
