If I was him i would of had a rope with 100ft plus of string connected to the kayak to get back to the kayak I am able to swim a mile back and forth from shore but it's sketch at night.
Your skill as a lobster hunter and an underwater videographer is simply amazing! I love your light setup. This is the best night dive lobster hunting video! Thanks!
Pinoyfisher look it up, you're maybe confused by the guitar fish (a species of saltwater ray), angel sharks are super rare, according to all my shark books (not stories) and a little scientific research, scientists had determined that this amazing species of shark are about to disappear, in other words, they are *critically endangered species*.
The Pacific angelshark is classified as near-threatened which is 3 categories down from critically endangered. There aren't "just a few left", they're pretty common actually.
A 2006 study showed that these we're critically endangered species, but then their population started to grow in the past few years converting them in vulnerable shark species.
this is probably my favorite video ever. i watch this all the time to relax, and it makes me so happy. i love how he goes WOO! whenever he catches a particularly big lobster, and that he films all the interesting fish and sea life that he sees when diving. it's really cool!
A Game Warden is walking along a beach one morning when he spots a man with a bucket of lobsters. The Warden walks up to the man, flashes his badge and says "You're in big trouble, buddy. Poaching lobsters is a serious offense". The man answers "You've got it all wrong, these lobsters are my pets! Every morning I take them out for some exercise. I let them swim around in the ocean for a few minutes and then whistle them back in." The Warden looks at the man skeptically and says "Ok then, prove it." The man proceeds to throw the lobsters into the ocean and both he and the Warden stand there waiting. After a couple minutes the Warden looks at the man and says "That's long enough, now whistle your lobsters back in." The man turns to the Warden and says "Lobsters? What lobsters?"
This was hilarious to watch the lobster is just minding it's own business and the you snag them lol. I caught a legal size lobster in November last year with a fishing pole
Yeah I think I snagged it I was going for mackerel but then I felt something real heavy on the line and since my friend was new to fishing I let him reel it up next thing I know I see a lobster at the end of my line.
these aren't lobsters, they just look like them so we call them lobsters, it's a misnomer. In the decapod crustaceans, actual lobsters are in infraorder astacidea, but spiny lobsters are in achelata. shrimp are caridea, crabs are brachyura. basically these "lobsters" are as far from true lobsters as crabs are
That video was recorded with NiteRider HID headlamps on each side of my head. NiteRider Dive is out of business now and I've switched to different lights.
Rick Coleman ok ill check them out, I have the Knog Qudos dive light but after every dive I have water inside who knows how nuch longer it will last and its new.
How come you're not afraid of being attacked by a shark or other sea creature? Or, is it that the chance of being attacked is too small to worry about?
Shark attacks are extremely rare. It's one of those things I would classify as an irrational fear. As a matter of fact, I don't believe a SCUBA diver has ever been the victim of a shark attack in Southern California.
Rick Coleman u are right the only reason there has been 40 scuba shark attacks in the last 80 years and the only reason for that is the shark probably thought the diver was a sea lion pup because they were decompressing and the sharks were all great white and from my nolege there aren't many up there
I want to try this too (diving/grabbing lobsters lol). But somehow I don't feel comfortable. Not sure if I'm scared because of sharks or the weird things the lives under water. lol But thanks for sharing this. Great vid!
I like your two-handed technique. I loved to lobster hunt in the Florida Keys years ago and I always used a net and a tickle stick since during the day, when the lobsters are hanging out in their homes. It looks like night diving is the way to go when the lobsters are active.
Such good memories...great video! We used to do this a few times a week in winter, and by Super Bowl Sunday we had enough lobster and abalone for 20 people to eat until ready to burst. (Yes, the old days when you could still find 12" red and pink abalone and were allowed to take them on SCUBA). I have to say though, you're a lot quicker than we were. You're like a lobster gathering ninja. A few of those in the rocks would have easily escaped,, leaving me with an antenna in my hand but nothing else. Thanks for this!
Love the video! I think this season is too close to closing for me to get my diving act together, but maybe next season. A couple years back I snuck onto a pier at night after the gates closed (nighttime photography purposes) and I found a guy out at the end of the pier with a three ring net. It was the first night of the season, and about every fifteen minutes he would pull up the net and pull a couple lobster out. But after seeing this Id rather dive for them!
Hello Rick, just saw this awesome video. I had seen lobster in real life but had no idea how where they captured/hunted. Thanks for sharing! greetings from Bogota, Colombia. Carolina
what kind of gloves are you wearing and where to purchase it? also dont you get any scratches from those spines on your sleeves? how do you protect your sleeve area?
can you catch how many you want? im guessing you need some kind of license or certification that you pay to renew to be able to do this right? and also i see he uses some kind of a measuring device to make sure they're at a legal size? is there a limit on how many you can catch? really curious lol, and also can you catch anything else like Stingray? or any others like octopus?
Hi Rick, I know a fisherman never tells gives away his spots... But I only free dive... I'm assuming you're out in open water; what depth about? I can reach about 40-50' with a two minute breath hold. Are you out by the reefs in La Jolla? I'm usually therefor day dives and the MB Jetties for night diving as it's safer. Any advice for new places to try out would be grateful! Also, do you know if the Zuniga Jetty is diveabke without a tank? I know that it's not accessible without a boat of a kayak. Just wondering before I make a trio that way. Also, if you are looking for a free dive partner, I am all game for new dive buddies!!!
Great video and two quick questions: -- At what depth and how far from shore do you usually catch them? -- Do you have a long tether connecting to your kayak? Thanks!
Most of the lobsters captured were 20-50 feet deep. Our Kayak dive sites are usually a 15-20 minute paddle. The kayak is anchored during the dive and I'm not ever tethered to it.
Great video, I've never tried night diving for lobster, probably because it's a little sharky where we dive. Do you find the lobster are more on the move at night?
Hunting with scuba equipment is illegal in Turkey. Also night diving is legal for only training or rescue purposes. Do you think it is ethic to hunt with scuba?
try coming from underneath the front and grab it at the base of the feelers mate, easiest way to grab them and also makes it easier to rip them out of holes, cheers
wow that would be so cool to do what you have done in this video, wish you would of shown what you did after the catch, did you sell them to a restaurant? or enjoy them
compilation makes it look so easy. I kayak dive too (monterey) and love to go lobster in the channel islands (off boats) though I never tried doing off my kayak and night dive down there. The one time I did night lobster (wasn't late enough IMO) they seemed scared by the lights so I told myself to get red lights next time. I'm surprised you're able to use white light and get that close to them... I know they are out at night so easier to grab, cause during the day you only have a split sec before they hide in their hole....
Bro this video is awesome!!! I have a few questions. Your diving at night(which I love). By yourself (pretty sketchy). In SoCal where loads of juvenile and large great whites prowl (wow). On to the question. Where did you find an wetsuit that would fit a man with such a huge set of man boulders!!! Screw Chuck Norris or the Dos Equis guy...You are the most interesting man in the world!!!
Thank god for a gopro video without music and with real ocean sound.
nattsurfaren thank God no dub step
nattsurfaren Ikr it's annoying when they do that
Is it just me or was watching him catch them really Satisfying ? :)
Alucard Hellsing Satisfyingly amazing! 👍
It is satisfying
Watching this pure talent that he has, it's a genius..
airwolf28 with scuba gear?? it's no talent it's unethical fishing!
Akshay M smart

Casey SnipSnap
This man is kayaking in the ocean at night.....
Bulldog The God more to the point he has a set big enough between his legs to scuba dive at night in the bloody ocean
If I was him i would of had a rope with 100ft plus of string connected to the kayak to get back to the kayak I am able to swim a mile back and forth from shore but it's sketch at night.
Absolutely monumental balls.
Damn,i creep out only when thinking about the creepy crawlies that could live in the ocean
Lobster comes out to feed at night
Your skill as a lobster hunter and an underwater videographer is simply amazing! I love your light setup. This is the best night dive lobster hunting video! Thanks!
You found a rare angel shark, they are just a few left which they are considered a critically endangered species, your lucky dude.
Lol! Not a common catch, but far from critically endangered!!
Angel Carreño any animal that is critically endangered would never be allowed to be harvested by the DFW.
The Pacific angelshark is classified as near-threatened which is 3 categories down from critically endangered. There aren't "just a few left", they're pretty common actually.
A 2006 study showed that these we're critically endangered species, but then their population started to grow in the past few years converting them in vulnerable shark species.
Bro the ocean scares me idk how you could dive down there especially at night
Tommy Le I personally feel much better down in the ocean at night than in some alleys and streets
MarquisDeLaMeme your right being with nature is great being friendly to seacreatures than alleys and streets so so annoying than wild life
Tommy Price And from Detroit and I say FUCK THAT
Tommy Price Exactly what i thought
Tommy Price just dive
this is probably my favorite video ever. i watch this all the time to relax, and it makes me so happy. i love how he goes WOO! whenever he catches a particularly big lobster, and that he films all the interesting fish and sea life that he sees when diving. it's really cool!
Lobster logic:
You grab me.
I grab your GoPro. Deal?
A Game Warden is walking along a beach one morning when he spots a man with a bucket of lobsters. The Warden walks up to the man, flashes his badge and says "You're in big trouble, buddy. Poaching lobsters is a serious offense". The man answers "You've got it all wrong, these lobsters are my pets! Every morning I take them out for some exercise. After a couple minutes the Warden looks at the man and says "That's long enough, now whistle your lobsters back in." The man turns to the Warden and says "Lobsters? What lobsters?"
LoL!
good one😂
+Matthew LaTorre lol am I the only one that doesnt know wtf this means? .-.
Fecty The man with the lobsters is just trying to get out of trouble so the game warden doesn't turn him in
+Joe Kahn Thats the one i remember haha
you kind of sound like kenny from south park :)
The best under water footage I have seen to date! Awesome video thanks for sharing!
I catch cray fish here but i do believe id have a stroke if a lobster got ahold of me
Me too. And these ones dont even have claws.
This looks like so much fun!!
DALLMYD love your vids mate
I always watch your video but why do you not do spearfishing video
Your video are awesome
Woah! Your videos are awesome dude!
Hi ur videos are top class
Rick, you're the biggest lobster hunter I've ever seen in my life.
This was hilarious to watch the lobster is just minding it's own business and the you snag them lol. I caught a legal size lobster in November last year with a fishing pole
A fucking fishing pole?
Yeah I think I snagged it I was going for mackerel but then I felt something real heavy on the line and since my friend was new to fishing I let him reel it up next thing I know I see a lobster at the end of my line.
+Philip Wright dude I can barely catch salmon...
+AlbertChillBro go to Alaska there is a whole bunch of Salmon there, I reach my legal keep limit in less than 2 hours.
just imagine if you were that lobster and someone just suddenly grabs you.... at night, creepy
Wow !!! You have some big balls dude
Bro were basiclly predetors to them
its the fact this man is diving in the ocean at night lol
I was holding my breath for parts of the video. LOL
lol, yesterday i watched a video from you and today i see you here :D what a day
lol
displayfireworks1 uhue
2:40 This Jellyfish looks so alienlike
I live in Michigan and thus know very little about ocean fishing, but isn't diving while its dark out a good way to have a shark eat your face?
Walks As Elk I guess he isnt diving in an shark infested area
did you ever find any buried treasure?
nah, just a couple of corpses here and there
@@567DeadMan seriously?
Why do they not have claws?
these aren't lobsters, they just look like them so we call them lobsters, it's a misnomer. In the decapod crustaceans, actual lobsters are in infraorder astacidea, but spiny lobsters are in achelata. shrimp are caridea, crabs are brachyura. basically these "lobsters" are as far from true lobsters as crabs are
Logan I personally prefer spiny lobsters
Logan should be a similar taste, Just like crabs, not the same but similar
what type of dive lights you using?
That video was recorded with NiteRider HID headlamps on each side of my head. NiteRider Dive is out of business now and I've switched to different lights.
Rick Coleman oh ok thank you anyways
There are now small video lights that can be attached to your mask. One I use and like is the Archon D11v
Rick Coleman ok ill check them out, I have the Knog Qudos dive light but after every dive I have water inside who knows how nuch longer it will last and its new.
Willie Wee nice work
Really love the channel. It gets the juices flowing like no other channel.
The double you catch is awesome...I love how you put the catches back to back with music. Looks like a blast, i’ve always wanted to catch one
Lobsters: Ahh what a nice day it I-
Scuba Divers: *Kidnaps Lobsters and stuffs them in bags*
ALL THE LOBSTERS WANTED TO DO WAS TAKE A NICE STROLL!
But in every shark movie I watch, they portray the shark as territorial. Isn't there any truth to that?
+H Hijazi you shouldn't get your facts from movies
H Hijazi those types of sharks don't bite and when they do it's for food but humans are too large for what they feed on
Rick Coleman u are right the only reason there has been 40 scuba shark attacks in the last 80 years and the only reason for that is the shark probably thought the diver was a sea lion pup because they were decompressing and the sharks were all great white and from my nolege there aren't many up there

sharks are more scared of you than you of them.
Have you asked one? Swimming around with a Crayfish berly trail behind you makes Sharks very interested in you
I like your two-handed technique. I loved to lobster hunt in the Florida Keys years ago and I always used a net and a tickle stick since during the day, when the lobsters are hanging out in their homes. It looks like night diving is the way to go when the lobsters are active.

Thanks for this!
Crab: I approve this message.
2:52 homer simpson! ahaha
Michael Zhao LOL
2:53 that cute "Whoo hoo"!
I actualy want to be a fulltime diver, the way you are alone in the ocean and just exploring... its just wow..
Love the video! I think this season is too close to closing for me to get my diving act together, but maybe next season. A couple years back I snuck onto a pier at night after the gates closed (nighttime photography purposes) and I found a guy out at the end of the pier with a three ring net. 1:05 lobster prank. (Gone Wrong!!)
"You've got big balls for doing this at night"
There's nothing in there at night that isn't there during the day
What's the limit? Seems like you didn't leave any for others.
+Brandyn Fox Seems like you're a douche bag.
+Brandyn Fox Seems like you're a girl and it also seems like you should fuck off. Jus sayin...but yeah, fuck off already.
+Brandyn Fox No not really. Annoyed yes, angry? No. Seems like you have A LOT of time on your hands.
+Brandyn Fox Seems I'm over this. No, doesn't SEEM. Later days.
Wait wtf how is guy a douche. If you payed attention to the video you would know that he's only going for bigger ones and releasing small ones.
Great video rick! We have the same lobster here in the Caribbean. What gloves would you recommend?
Would like to know what's your gopro/ scuba light set up to be hands free. What scuba light are you using by the way?
4:42 hey 👋 wanne buy some drugs
Can you make more? That was satisfying
he is brave of going down there and catching the lobsters by him self
Hello Rick, just saw this awesome video. I had seen lobster in real life but had no idea how where they captured/hunted. Thanks for sharing! greetings from Bogota, Colombia. Carolina
What's the classification to keep lobsters for food or whatever you plan on doing with them?
5:18 i think that was an Angle Shark
Yup extremely endangered, he was sooo lucky to have gotten to see one :)
Was it an obtuse or an acute one?
charlie flanagan i think it was acute, maybe right tho ;)
Atraparon al señor tenazas :'v
in 3:39 he's like gotcha bitch
Honestly impressed at this guys speed underwater.
Hey man great video! I was just wondering what kinds of head mount you used that had the double flashlights on them
mmmmmmm yummmy water spiders
I feel sorry for them when they are right next to their baby and you snatch them away
most certainly not a baby, lobsters dont give a fuck about their young, the eggs hatch and the snots are on their own.
Callum Cameron the baby was an adult
Callum Cameron d u m b a s s
what kind of gloves are you wearing and where to purchase it? also dont you get any scratches from those spines on your sleeves? how do you protect your sleeve area?
Very nice lookin spiny lobsters man! Good job! Diving for lobsters during the night has to be crazy easy (I'm only used to doing it in Florida)
I back out when a crayfish swims anywhere near me and this guy is grabbing two fully grown lobsters at once
Can't wait for Lobster season to open up. I just got into spear fishing!
Aren't you scared of sharks in that water? I know they rarely attack human.... its just scary thought. And what lamp do u use?
can you catch how many you want? im guessing you need some kind of license or certification that you pay to renew to be able to do this right? and also i see he uses some kind of a measuring device to make sure they're at a legal size? is there a limit on how many you can catch? really curious lol, and also can you catch anything else like Stingray? or any others like octopus?
What part of California is this? I cant find any purple or red urchin down shore diving off san diegos north county beaches.
Those are odd looking lobsters without claws/pinchers. Are they actually lobsters or just called so by name?
I know this video is old, but by chance do you know what light you were using while under the water?
Hi Rick, I know a fisherman never tells gives away his spots... But I only free dive... I'm assuming you're out in open water; what depth about? I can reach about 40-50' with a two minute breath hold. Are you out by the reefs in La Jolla? I'm usually therefor day dives and the MB Jetties for night diving as it's safer. What do you do with the lobsters after you've captured them?
I've been looking through the comments...and just trying to find out. Where is this at?
Great video, I've never tried night diving for lobster, probably because it's a little sharky where we dive. Do you find the lobster are more on the move at night?
Yes, lobsters are nocturnal and come out at night.
I know pretty old vid. But what light set up and mask are you using. Thanks
I’ve been trying to find this channel since 2018!
The lobsters have no defense then besides that rasping noise? Is it deadly or something?
That jellyfish sitting there suspended in the water was pretty wicked
2:54 your ass was so god damn happy 😂😂
Hunting with scuba equipment is illegal in Turkey. Also night diving is legal for only training or rescue purposes. Do you think it is ethic to hunt with scuba?
What gloves do you use? Where do you mount your gopro? Its really steady + no bubbles. Video got me excited for lobster season!
under the sea a lot of thing. do you like catch fishing is under sea?
You are a beast of a lobster hunter, awesome stuff man!!!!
I don't know why but this is calming.
My first time to see how a guy catch lobsters like this, awesome
Do the lobster bite and stuff? what are the dangers catching them like this?
how do you find your boat when its that dark? and arent you paranoid of sharks being down there?
I noticed several sea urchins throughout. Do you, can you, should you?
These creepy af , but may I say it must be fun down there seeing all the beautiful things, those rays and that octopus were magnificent
try coming from underneath the front and grab it at the base of the feelers mate, easiest way to grab them and also makes it easier to rip them out of holes, cheers
When you catch them, do you like break its face or something?
At 1:50 was that a show? The white thing on the left?
this is one of my all time youtube fav video
Does that breed not have any pincers? How does it defend itself?
They are California Spiny lobsters and have sharp spines to defend themselves. They can also escape very quickly with a flip of the tail.
This makes it look just too easy! :-)
What are you using for light?
were was this video tooken??? that way I can go 1 day to the same spot
Do you need kevlar gloves to catch them or will work gloves be ok?
I use neoprene gloves, but have some friends that us work gloves.
the real question is how did you find your way back to the kayak?
why do you grab theyre head if its on your hands? can it bite? can it hurt you in some way? are they tasty?
In how many hours did you got all those lobsters?
wow that would be so cool to do what you have done in this video, wish you would of shown what you did after the catch, did you sell them to a restaurant? or enjoy them
The lobster are enjoyed with family and friends.
compilation makes it look so easy. I kayak dive too (monterey) and love to go lobster in the channel islands (off boats) though I never tried doing off my kayak and night dive down there. 2:43 justice of the ocean- the box jellyfish 😂😂
I don't have much knowledge about the types of lobsters but I thought lobsters have claws? without claws wouldn't these be big prawns?
Holy shit! How long did it take you to catch all those lobster?
That second lobster was like whispering "sponsor me GoPro I love your products from a small UA-camr with a dream of 50k" lmao
Are there not great whites that hunt at night off cali coast ?
