Love it! Great stuff Griff. You are brilliant at showing us how to extract the maximum from very small ideas. It's all these little nuances that really make a great blues guitar player. Most of the other guys just blind us with scales and over complicate things.
I already knew of this, but I took it one step further and came up with a new sounding lick a few minutes ago. Just do the slide part after every other note and it sounds pretty cool. I hope that makes sense. :D Thank you for the video too!
Thanks for the videos, I have been practicing my soloing for a while and it is coming together. But...I haven't been learning any specific blues songs. I have 10 days to learn a blues song (any known title) for an event (I just can't noodle around over the 12 bar blues). Which song would you recommend? I'm looking for something easy to learn, that folks would know or recognize...I may or may not have backup. Could just be me and my electric guitar. This is kind of an audition, but they say it really isn't. "Play us one or two songs"...basically, for them to see how well I play. They are planning a benefit music show, not exactly an open mike, but they plan to accept everyone who attends all the rehearsals, try to put them someplace, cobble together a few bands. What do you think?
My problem is that I use a pick and can only get the speed to a point. If I palm the pick and use my fingers I can go faster, but i can't palm the pick fast enough.
It wouldn't hurt to mention that the pair of notes is the heart of the Dom 7 shape with the root on the 4th (or D) string... specifically the 5th and b7 of the 1,3,5,b7 dominant chord formula... Didn't hurt a bit, did it?
In my experience, most people don't know that chord shape (though I try and teach it) so I don't tend to gravitate there. But yes, you're right about that portion of the dominant chord.
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the situation, but email helpdesk@bluesguitarunleashed.com or call 1-877-66BLUES (662-5837) and we'll get you sorted out.
Love this. So many folks 'assume' this kind of thing is just 'known'... Great to have it broken down with a deeper dive!

Thanks Griff. Good lesson on a simple but effective concept.
wow! 5 years later and you're still killin it!
Thank you!
Simple and brilliant lesson.
That was an eye opener. Thanks
Thanks for the looper ideas!
Rhythm ideas are really good here.
Lots of great variations for my blues / rock tool box.
👍
Great lesson love this format with detail on the application
I've heard Alvin Lee & Kim Simmonds use this interval/double stop in so many songs, countless others use it as well. It's such a powerful sound

Go up 2 frets and you're on major box 2 of 4 chord, can run between them.

What is this sorcery
Aren't you just hammering on the roof of your "house" pattern?
That is also a good way to look at it, yes. Choose whatever method works for you!
