    I feel like it’s amazing that they included an SPF, but I would have been a HUGE impact if they made a mineral sunscreen without any cast. It’s so hard to truly find one that works

    • @styleandbeautydoctor
      @styleandbeautydoctor  4 роки тому +19

      I agree!!! BUT I think for who this line is marketed to, they might not have appreciated a mineral sunscreen. I think that this line may be the first time some people even thought to wear a sunscreen and a mineral one could be hard to convince people to wear.
      So much has to go into making a mineral sunscreen work on deeper skin: either making the molecules smaller so the white cast is less detectable or tinting it. I’ve seen firsthand how brands struggle to tint mineral sunscreen so that it works for deeper skin. Not impossible from what I’ve experienced because I’ve tried a bunch of tinted mineral sunscreens that work on my skin tone, but those are far and few in between.

      The Style and Beauty Doctor Yes I do love that it encourages people to wear sunscreen more. I understand it can be difficult for brands to create mineral sunscreens for darker skin, but I think there has to be something done. It’s hard for me to wear chemical sunscreens around my eyes because of stinging and mineral sunscreens these days either leave a white cast, or make it extremely dry. I’m happy for her and the brand looks promising, but I hope in the future she considers to release a mineral spf that doesn’t leave a white cast for the more sensitive folk

    • @styleandbeautydoctor
      @styleandbeautydoctor  4 роки тому +8

      Agree! Would love to see more mineral sunscreens for us for sure!!❤️❤️❤️

    • @nancykerrigan
      @nancykerrigan 4 роки тому +1

      I agree. I prefer mineral. I had a similar moisturizer that incorporates chemical sunscreen and I noticed some stinging so I looked into mineral. I have the versed guards up sinscreen and i love it. Gives me the teeeeniest cast but i love it. I even see some sparklingness when I'm out in the sun (i put some on my arm and leg and top of feet when I'm out) which is cool. I wish that kinda sunscreen was incorporated in the moisturizer but i understand it's not so easy. Maybe link up with a brand like Purito cuz i hear their comfy water is a mineral that doesn't leave a cast.

      I love Rihanna too and I purchase her complexion products, but the toner would have been perfect with the ferments except it had Witch Hazel, which is more of an astringent and I hate astringents.
      I don’t need her cleanser or SPF, either, but I’m so glad she created the SPF because some black folk have been miseducated on what our skin needs for far too long.

    This is the third review of Fenty Skin i've watched (i've also watched Hyram's and Aysha Harun). I think if I used anything from this first launch, it would be the cleanser. But I have hope that as her skincare line grows, there will be more options for different skin types, and fragrance free options.

    Hey girl, hey! I truly appreciate your very honest review of Fenty Skin, Danielle. While I'm still looking to try some Fenty Beauty products in the near future, I don't think I'll be swapping out my current skincare products to try Fenty Skin. I've worked so hard to get my skin to where it is now and the products I'm currently using have been great, no issues (majority of these products I usually pick up at TJ Maxx or Marshall's, which helps the wallet too).
    I'll splurge a little soon on Fenty Beauty (really want to get shade matched for Fenty and I've been trying to figure it out on my own which Fenty shade best matches Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H Long Wear Foundation 500 Suede W), but will stick to my tried and true products for skincare. As someone who dove into makeup for the first time the beginning of this year, I'd been heavily focused on skincare prior and still place it above a "beat face" as I'm someone who still prefers to wear my skin most days with a side of some good eye and lip action (though I don't do a lip now due to Rona 😭).
    Edited to add: I LOVE your earrings!

      So I have oily acne prone skin and I’m enjoying the cleanser and toner so far.
      For the cleanser, I’m actually surprised how much I like it. It’s creamy yet it foams up nicely without stripping my skin. I like I can double cleanse with it or use my oil cleanser followed by the fenty cleanser and still have clean skin. It has a muted vanilla scent, really muted.
      Toner: I work this in with my hands then press into my skin and absorbs pretty quickly. It’s easy to just use my hands. It’s actually fun to use because of the texture. No scent.
      I would repurchase both.
      How I’ve fit the products into my routine.
      1. Fenty Cleanser ( am/pm)
      2. Fenty Toner (am/pm)
      3. Serum (pm)
      4. Random moisturizer (still in the hunt for a good gel one) (sometimes am/pm)
      5. Sunscreen (am)

    “Praise Black Baby Jesus, there’s a sunscreen!” 😂🙌🏼 Yes! I am so happy she added this in the first go/launch, unlike Kylie skin or some other lines. I also really appreciate what you mentioned about the benefits of sunscreens far outweighing any potential dangers when we know for sure what havoc the sun can wreak in our skin. I think it’s an important thing for people to remember. Agree w the coral reef thing too. I think with environmental things, it’s often easy for people to get fixated (with good intentions, of course!) on one aspect of something helping the earth and losing sight of the forest for the trees, no pun intended. (The classic example for me is the fixation on & demonization of plastic straws. Great to use less plastic, but there are other things that cause damage to the environment too.)

    Sounds like you weren’t in love LOL. I should have watched this before I ordered but I’m a sucker for spf so that’s what really got me. I was on the fence about the toner bc I’m so used to wiping my toner off to get off any dirt missed from cleansing but I do love a good serum. Very honest review!

      Nk Naturalz I like the wash and spf. The toner is ok. The only item I would probably repurchase is the wash. she has a mini version now, Wish I waited. But I have noticed that some of my dark marks have faded & I haven’t gotten any crazy breakouts, a little something but not crazy. I use other products as well but I’d like to think These items helped my skin too

    Thanks a lot for this well explained review ! I'm quite a newbie in skincare and as I never tend to use screen protection, the hydrating + screen protection mix represents a good opportunity to me to protect my skin better. Nevertheless, I'm quite concerned about chemical active substances (and the high price let's be real), so I will try out her lil combo product, but also have a look at your video on mineral sunscreen to become more aware about the alternatives.

      You’re welcome! Her moisturizer with spf is nice but it’s not the only option of its kind out there by far and you can get decent sunscreens that blend into deeper skin tones for a fraction of the price.

You can say well these ingredients ain't the best.. and these ingredients are good but you washing it down the drain etc! I'm not a toner person and my vitamin c serum already has niacinamide in it and I also have a serum 🤷🏾‍♀️ I have a sunscreen and moisturizer I like(sorry that price is a bit much) so that leaves me with maybe the cleanser. Hey Daphne! Thanks! It’s not that your skin gets used to a product, it could be that your skin issues changed or your environment changed. Check out this blog post for tons of info broken down on starting a skincare routine: tsabd.com/skincare_newbie
      It’s hard to give recommendations just from the small amount of info you gave. For one, Olay sells lots of products so I don’t know which one(s) you use. Do you exfoliate? If you don’t exfoliate, that could be why you’re not seeing the results you want. Check out that blog post I just linked as it will lead you to more info.

    If the niacinamide isnt in the first five ingredients, there isnt much in there it wont be as effective. Better to look for glycolic acid for PIH

    • @styleandbeautydoctor
      @styleandbeautydoctor  4 роки тому +3

      Not necessarily true. Niacinamide is effective up to 5% (and some people may only tolerate a lower percentage than that but it can still be effective for some under 5%).
      There are quite a number of ingredients that deal with PIH (kojic acid, hydroquinone, vitamin C, licorice root, etc) and each has its plusses and minuses for people.
      Glycolic can be too strong for some and the irritation from it (for *some*) can actually lead to more PIH. It’s not the be all end all. ❤️❤️❤️
