- The Wii was the first game console I ever owned, not counting the family computer. And I loved that thing. It was a weird introduction to gaming, and the games definitely varied greatly in quality, but overall, it was a wonderful first step. And though I loved many games for that peculiar console, one stands out as I look back. A game that I have many amazing memories with, whether I was laughing with my family, or trying to resist hucking the controller at my brother. Of course, I’m talking about Wii Sports Resort, the new and improved successor to Wii Sports.
Today, we're discussing why we need another Wii Sports in 2020, one that can utilize the Switch to its fully potential, and bring joy to families everywhere.

Yes. We need more people talking about this. I can't stress enough how much Nintendo has been neglecting Miis, and family sports/party games on the Switch.

Another point. Wii Sports was intended to show what Wii could do, and it was great. Nintendo Land did so with the Wii U. 1-2 Switch does the same, but it sucks, and it's not even included with the console

What I will say might sound strange but I hope Nintendo put the beautiful golf blue sky first Wii sports had, because the morning I first played Wii sports with my sister and my cousins, The real life sky was identical to golf sky, which was the first sport I played. My cousin and I were three at that age and we were best friends. I miss those times so much.

I think an important part of a sequel or remaster would be to fix the scaling, a lot of things are either way too big or way too small. I also would love to see more options such as weather and season. I know that Wuhu Island is supposed to be tropical but it would look pretty cool in the snow, and I would LOVE to see the island while it rains.

Exploring the island made me feel . And when they released Pilotwings for 3ds it feels like the best thing ever. I don't play many games with my family except Mario Party because they don't have interest in them or because they don't know how to play. I will be another Wii Sports series (or Wii Party/Wii Music/Wii Play) without a doubt. We have Rig Fit Adventure that is like a sequel of Wii Fit, so I have hope!
Yes Pilotwings Resort, I really like that game
The closest thing we have to wii sports resort on the switch is ‘go vacation’ which is a port of the game from the wii. Go vacation is still a good game and is open world and although I spent hours playing go vacation on my wii as a child it still just doesn’t have the charm that wii sports resort has.
I feel like Go Vacation is one of those games that are highly underrated

Wii sports resort is the epic
New theory, Wuhu Island is Isle Delfino after it was taken over by evolved humans from the metro kingdom. In Mario kart Wii there are many miis on the coconut mall track, which is pretty obviously on Isle Delfino. Also the layout of delfino plaza in super mario sunshine is similar to the layout of wuhu town. Make Wuhu would be Corona mountain. Maybe wedge island could have been the theme park from sunshine, it's far enough from wuhu island for that to be true.
I was waiting for the ending intro. Then it hit. But honestly I grew up with this game as well, and mario kart and the wii shop channel not a whole lot, but this needs a part two, or a remake or something! I always wanted to walk around the island, its why island flyover is so amazing. Thanks for this.

I freaking loved this game. Thank you so much for covering this game and showing everyone the masterpiece this is.
Also I did play the canoeing mode. It's a bit tiring but its not that bad and can sometimes be entertaining, especially with coop which I did play.
The real mode that felt like you couldn't play was dogfight, because you could rarely get 2 players and we always wanted to play it but needed more Wii motion+ controllers (Which i do have atm thankfully with my Wii u, which is how i can even still play the game lmao)
i wish we would have an open world mii nintendo game. closest thing is Go Vacation.

the wii was also my first ever gaming console back in 2008 i was 7 and i spent all my time playing wii golf on wii sports and then onto resort with archery and the sword game with different levels. i have so many good memories from the original wii and i truly hope we get another wii sports

Something about flying over the island seeing all the places you play through in the rest of the games was really satisfying and fun for me. It turned wii sports resort from more than a collection of minigames to something that felt like an actual resort! I would absolutely love to see an all-new sequel to Wii Sports on the Nintendo Switch. Wii Sports has been one of my favorite game franchises of all time, alongside Super Mario and Kirby. If Nintendo were to make an all-new sequel, they should keep the essense of what made it special and update it for a new era while introducing new features to the game.
A story mode where you complete various sports to be the ultimate champion of Wuhu Island and the option to change your mii's outfit or mii character design from other games they're featured in (Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games, Miitopia, etc) would be great additions to the new game.

Nowadays games all hyperfocus on graphics, vivid storytelling and complex gameplay, and while all of these are certainly fantastic selling points and cannot be faulted at all, a part of me misses simple games like the wii sports series where everyone was just out to have a good time fooling around

Switch Sports Resort 2 Remastered
I first got the Wii in I think 2011 or 12. Wii Sports + Resort was always my favorite, I mostly played the sword fighting modes and the Flyover mode. Then I’d sometimes play Ping Pong and Tennis with my siblings and we would play all the time. I even bought a Wii U so I can play both consoles then got rid of the Wii soon after finding out I can use Wii CDs for the Wii U. But I sold the Wii U years later because the Sensor Bar was glitching and the hand that would appear only appeared when the Remote was facing behind us. In 2020 we tried getting another but the sensor bar didn’t work. I always wished I never sold the consoles because I miss the old Mario Kart, Mario Bros., other games and especially Wii Sports + Resort. I know I will get to play my favorite Wii Games sometime soon.

Got my Switch almost a year ago and the first I did, was to check if there was a Wii Sports. My disappointment, was immeasurable and the fact that they still haven't made it, is a disgrace. The Whole Fifa debacle, also hit me hard

For everyone desperately waiting for Nintendo to release a new Wii Sports game on the switch, there is a game on the switch called instant sports and it is really cheap and and the gameplay isn’t that fun . however it is a really good game to play and it is the closest we are at the moment to wii sports

I tried explaining this to my bf. Nintendo is hugely missing out on this cash cow. During its lifetime, the Wii sold about 101.63 million consoles total. Wii sports sold 82.9 million copies, making it the Wii's best selling game by about 40 million copies. Even if we include the numbers of Wii Sports being included with the Wii, I find it unlikely that all of those numbers came from just the bundle packages. So, even with assuming that the actual number of copies sold for Wii Sports by itself was 20 mil (a quarter of 80mil and less than Wii Sports Resort), that would put it in 7th place. Making a different version for the Switch (even without Mii characters and making you able to select different Nintendo characters instead), would be good for business. It even aligns with the whole "family console" concept that Nintendo pushes for the Switch, and it would be good for P.R. because they could go for the whole pandemic-y type of marketing and make it seem like it's about staying fit and connected during a global pandemic. Also, they'd be able to call it Switch Sports which I think has a great ring to it and would bring in more casual players as Nintendo has said they've been aiming towards.
