  • This reaction video is a bit of an experiment. Here I am reacting to Arch Echo - To The Moon. A band I have never heard of, and a style I don't typically listen too. I do a Bible reading live stream for my church every day and thought that I would try to use my live stream rig for something else. If I do future videos like this I would hope to do more breakdown of what is going on, and maybe even teach some of the drum parts. Let me know if you like this type of content.

I saw Arch Echo open up for Dream Theater back in February in LA. They opened up their set with this tune, and they just blew the roof off of the place! I had never heard of them before, but I’m now kinda obsessed with their music. The more I dig into their goodies, the better it gets 🤘🏼

Very nice... If I weren't watching the video, I wouldn't have thought that solo was on the keyboard! Reminds me of a little bit of Rush, Coheed and Cambria, and some old Nintendo soundtrack brought to life.

The Keyboard player is a monster! These guys are really on another level. I did a transcription of the first 40 seconds or so of this song and I will be releasing a lesson on it shortly. Digging into what was going on gave me even more respect for these guys, really complicated rhythms going on here. I hope to release that video soon.

Coincidentally, they're releasing an EP today.
This is my favourite "new" band and they did a couple of tours with my favourite "new" guitar player, Plini (maybe listen to his "Electric Sunrise").
I'm saying "new" because I'm over 50 y.o. and just discovered Arch Echo last year and Plini one year before.

    • @MikeLevitsky

That's awesome, I heard these guys for the first time yesterday. I'll check out Plini. I am 37 and still find myself discovering new artists, some that have been around from decades, and I just have not been exposed to them yet. It always amazes me how many crazy good musicians there are in the world.

Excellent observations about this very fast-moving unit, Bro! I'd LOVE to hear your reaction to Nate smith and Kinfolk, way more drum-centric, and perhaps more in your style - DEF NOT in the djent/metal genre...

I've just stumbled upon this video and I love instrumental prog music.
My fav song by Arch Echo is Color Wheel.
You mentioned Matt Gartska so I assume you've heard Animals as Leaders. Physical Education is a great song by them.
I'd also recommend the following bands/songs to have a listen and see how you feel about them.
    Owane - Love Juice
    Plini - Every Piece Matters
    Intervals - 5-HTP
David Maxim Micic - Living Room
    Polyphia - G.O.A.T.

As a Christian musician I really like the joy that these guys bring. I don't listen to "metal" at all, I kind of feel like these guys transcend the genre. I've listened to all the music they have released so far, there are only one or two tracks I have really connected with. In terms of genre defying, "feel good" and inspiring music in a different vein can I recommend another group called "Knower" to you. I think you will also be VERY impressed with their drummer. God bless, and stay inspired!

I guess I am the only person here that thinks perfection is the enemy of the good? Impressive technically, too bad it sounds like could be computer generated.
As far as drums id rather listen to Bill Ward or Mitch Mitchell.

    • @MikeLevitsky
      @MikeLevitsky  3 роки тому +3

Hey James, I am sure you are not the only one, not every artist will appeal to every person. We are all different and find different things aesthetically pleasing. I think we see a similar thing in the visual art world. Some of the great painters sought to create art that reflected reality in the most accurate way possible, some sorta in between like Van Gogh, and some in very abstract ways like Picasso. Each of these artist's paintings with appeal to different people in a different way. They are all great artists, but may not all be appreciated by the same people. In the case of Arch Echo, you may not enjoy the music, but the composition, and the execution have to be praised even if you feel the music may lack the raw, grit and soul of Bill or Mitch, who by the way are great artists in their own right. Thanks for leaving a comment and giving us your thoughts.
