Unfortunately it was really common in the early Xbox 360 and PS3 days. It was an attempt to make games look realistic but it just made them look uglier. Luckily we’ve gotten better with lighting and bloom.
The 360 version of Burnout Revenge suffers what a lot of other games did at that time - an absolutely horrifying overuse of the 'bloom' effect. I have no idea why basically every game dev from 2005-2007 thought this made their games look better, but my god did bloom-ey games not age well.
I couldn't agree more, I ordered this for my Xbox One and it concerns me 😂 if only we could adjust it. I don't even remember the bloom being that insane
While I normally hate motion blur in games, on this game its absolutely great and not something that causes any issues in-game. It gives a sense of speed I have experienced on no other game. Also not sure about this one, but the frame-rate and input lag on PS2 was AWFUL on Burnout 3. I tried to downgrade to that version from Xbox so I could play online without a paid subscription and I literally couldn't play it as the difference was so big.

sadly bloom was heavily overused when it was pretty new. hence why many games released between 2005 and ~2008 look like they are bathing in bloom. whenever there is a new effect that is good at hiding graphical flaws and doesn't consume too much hardware resources, this kind of stuff happens :/
You obviously haven't played on the Xbox 360 version in 5.1 surround sound then. You get an intense adrenaline hit as you hear how close cars are passing you on each side.
Alex Atkin I am sure the sound quality on the 360 is superior. But I prefer alot of the actual sound affects used on PS2 that were removed or replaced entirely when coming over to Xbox 360.
I agree with you - the missing SFX was the first thing I noticed when I played the 360 version, having first played the original Xbox version. When you do takedowns on the 360 there's just nothing, almost. It's so bland, Why they took some of the great sounds out, I have no idea. Coupled with the 360 version looking really blurry, the best version is the OG Xbox in 480p. Also the OG version actually fills the entire screen but the 360 has a big black border all round it. Basically a lazy quick cash-in for 'next gen'.
Yeah, the light bloom during the early PS3/360 era was really overused, which makes sense since it was a new thing anyway. Now they've mastered use of it and it looks great *most* of the time

Wow I never realized the 6th gen version of this game actually looked better than tge xbox 360 version until now. What can I say, the game was made to be played in 480p
I have been lucky to actually played this on an old school CRT Television which the PS2 was designed for. This game was one of the best looking games on it. The low resolution grainy aliased graphics is usually non perceptible on CRT while the locked 60fps tops the experience up.
CCloak Lung You had a 480p crt? Those were hard to come by. This game still looks pretty good on a modern display assuming you're using the correct cables.

Devs got insanely lazy on the 360 port. 360 can do light years better graphics than this as seen by FM 4 and other games on the platform. Devs said "port it over and slap some bloom on it and we'll make some cash!".
Technically the 360 version has some advantages like higher resolution textures and higher polycount on models. This is all ruined by the blur and bloom effects slapped onto it. Another issue is the SFX just being more pleasant on Xbox/PS2 version, takedowns especially sound much more satisfying than on 360.

The Ps2 never competed with the xbox 360, it was the playstation 3 that did, so no need to fight on which one looked better. I played this game on my ps2 when it was released, without a doubt one of the best racing games.

You turn progressive scan/480p on using Cross and Triangle when the game is loading up. Only a handful of PS2 games like Shadow of the Colossus/The Getaway/Gran Turismo 4/BLACK/Burnout Revenge had this mode.

I was so surprised when I found this game on xbox store (i’m actually a ps guy, but I bought an xbox 1 since they have good backwards compatibillity) and at the moment when I started playing, I instantly realized that this game was so much better on ps2... The HD and textures just annoyed the crap out of me. I feel like they cut down on some content as well. Didn’t this game have a female narrator that was all «robot-like»?
no content was cut down at all, infact more content was added in DLC, they added more cars. also the controls are much MUCH better. much like today's controls, accelerating with the triggers is a subtle change but once you get the hang of it you can't play ANY other racing without it.
I have a Ps2 and a Series X and I don’t know if I should buy this game on ps2 or xbox. In the video Ps2 looks better to me but I heard people saying xbox version is much better. Should I buy it for the Ps2 ?
idk if you made your decision yet but get it digitally on series x, even tho i love the ps2 it is a 20 year old console at this point, lord knows if it'll last another 10 yrs from now. the 360 version also has more cars and more crash junctions

Bloom on 360 is ridiculous, but it was a common problem back then. More bloom = more next gen looking

and theres a tiny bit of smoke coming from the exhausts on ps2 while there is basically no smoke or vapor at all in any scene of the 360 version

yeah early NFS and Burnout titles, used motion in a nice way, whereas as nowadays its just irritation

They added more content on the 360 version. This game never had a narrator in ANY version of the game aside from the intro video in all versions.

The ps2 version is a technical marvel, one of the best looking ps2 games for its time, look almost like an early 360 game.
I gotta say this is a good comparison but its obvious the ps2 is being emulated as that isn't full speed gameplay.
Im not sure which is better, but I know that it’ll be very hard to see/play on the xbox 360

Aparte hay esenas mescladas cuando choca los vehiculos al final, si es de 360, pero en el checking trafick si es XBOX original

Xbox 360 version is better because it has the feeling of atmosphere in the air while the PS2 version looks as if there's no heat or air in the city.
Seem Xbox 360 has more cars (even the car was reskin lol)

I have a Ps2 and a Series X and I don’t know if I should buy this game on ps2 or xbox. In the video Ps2 looks better to me but I heard people saying xbox version is much better. Should I buy it for the Ps2 ?
idk if you made your decision yet but get it digitally on series x, even tho i love the ps2 it is a 20 year old console at this point, lord knows if it'll last another 10 yrs from now. the 360 version also has more cars and more crash junctions
Plus its only 10 dollars on xbox
