This mineral looks fake

- This is a cube of pyrite (fool's gold), and it kind of looks fake, but it's actually completely natural. Pyrite is able to form in a few different ways, but in my opinion, this cube form is the most interesting.
What I think is odd about fools gold, is that it's shiny and cold like a metal, but it's not a metal at all and it's also very brittle.

Run into that stuff when drilling quite often. We ain't ever gonna have to work again, come get your bucket of gold!" @@joeschmoe6908R/woosh

if millions died in mine.. mining industries would be the most fatal job in the world.
I don't think the number is this high even in iron age or the old times..
@@joeschmoe6908 Do you have any idea how many default blender cubes are used every day? They are a cornerstone of the computer modeling industry and most people just throw them away!
0:12 Agreed 100%, the cube form of pyrite is arguably the most satisfying crystal to look at
Bro really said: 🟫⛏️🚶🏽♂️
It's also a nuisance. It's a contaminant in coal, and when you burn the coal the sulfur in the pyrite causes acid rain. It's also found with other metal sulfides which are ores, and dilutes them. On the plus side, it can contain small amounts of gold and silver, and is sometimes mined for that reason.
Clearly there is a back story to this.
It's not a metal, but it still feels cold because it's a very dense ceramic. Ceramics are known for being both excellent conductors and excellent insulators depending on the microscopic structure.
wait, how it can be a ceramic if it's made of iron and sulfur ? doesn't it need to be made from non-metals to be a ceramic ?
@@danilooliveira6580The sulfur being non-metal must be enough..
@@danilooliveira6580sulfur is enough to have the properties to be ceramic
It's not a ceramic, it is a semi-conductor, it conducts electricity and heat to varying degrees as do all sulphides and oxides, but not as good as a metal. Ceramics are usually complex silicates or oxides.
Ceramics are clay or "phylosilicates"
Pyrite is Iron Sulfate
You cant tell me that it formed like that without anyone shaping it

In fact, it is not a metal, since metal is very hard compared to pyrite, which, despite having few iron molecules, is still a mineral that is easy to break even if you press it lightly with your hand, while a metal is hard and the only way to break it is by melting it or exposing it to a higher force.
