- 1969 Yenko Super Car Nova
The Nova was different in that Chevy offered no special COPO for it, so Yenko had to go back to their roots by ordering an SS 396 along with an L-72 short block. The L-78 was yanked and stripped to make the 427 a complete engine and installed. While the engine was rated at 425hp, rumors circulated that in the Nova, it actually made closer to 500hp. The package also included the 12-bolt 4.10 diff, heavy duty power front disc brakes, and upgraded suspension.
Yenko decided to go with a theme for the exterior of the 1969 Super Cars. All models received (unless deleted on the option sheet) a pair of stripes that ended near the front in an arrow with the letters “sYc” (Yenko Super Car). The sides featured a body stripe going from front to rear proudly displaying “Yenko/SC” on the rear quarter panel.
The cars also featured the Yenko badge on the rear panel with the “427” emblem, and “427” emblems on each side of the cowl scoop. Other options included a black vinyl top and Torq-Thrust wheels. Inside, was a standard black interior, with custom headrests proudly displaying the “sYc” logo. Camaros also received front and rear spoilers. All models had the option of the Muncie 4-speed manual, or TH400 automatic transmission.
Each of the Yenko Super Cars for 1969 were beautiful, yet deadly. Production numbers for the Camaro, Chevelle, and Nova were 198, 99, and 38 respectively.
Yenko History: Don Yenko had the knack for building fast cars. So much so, that Yenko Chevrolet had built up the reputation for being the go-to place for go-fast goodies. Opening up in 1949, Yenko Chevrolet, based in Canonsburg, PA, entered the performance world in 1957 by offering performance parts, as well as modifying your vehicle for you at the dealership. When you have the ability to make customers’ cars a lot more fun to drive, word gets out, as did the Yenko name. It wasn’t too long that Yenko Chevrolet began reaching for bigger and better things.

My 68 Camaro SS was Le Mans Blue, it was gorgeous
What a nice Nova
Thanks for sharing
Nice! 1st ride was a 67 rs 4sp Same dark shade of turqoise as Jerry Neishs Z.
Uncle bought a 68 Z brand new Id lose my mind as a 70s kid when he would come over. Parents thought I was strange when I begged him to go start it so I could listen to it. Strange little man, yes I was. lol
Love it.
It’s a sweet ride…in a straight line
One of the best cars ever built. Big Yenko fan. I even went out to Cononsburg, PA and saw the old Yenko dealership. Still there. Motorcycle shop of some sort now.
Not all original, but I have a '69 Yenko camaro, 69' Yenko Chevelle, 69' Yenko Nova and a 70' Yenko Deuce. All redone; 427 engines on the 69's and a LT-1 350 on the 70'
These cars are awesome and amazingly fast…in a straight line. Thanks for watching
the Nova is my DREAM car
Thanks for watching!
You turn that loose,ya better hang on,absolutely beautiful Nova
You got that right! Thanks for watching!
Are you kidding me? Look at the lines of that beauty! Short boxy pony car. The perfect package for a muscle car
She’s a beauty! Thanks for watching!
Those thin whitewalls complete the sleeper factory stock look perfectly!!
Love sleep cars, muffled way down but super quick, hook and book!
Yeah, big time sleeper here. Something grandma would drive to church.
@@TwoGuysandaRide Not sure if youre serious or not....but grew up with old relatives in teh 70s who dailied cars with no ps, manual drum brakes no ac and handled them just fine. People were tougher back then
@gordocarbo oh yeah. I was agreeing with you
To set the record straight here , first off that is not Lemans blue , I had an original paint '68 SS Camaro in Lemans blue and this car is about three shades too light . Second , all of the Yenko Super Novas for '69 were built from SS 396 / 375 hp. Novas by the Yenko dealership . They removed the SS badges from the grille and rear panel between the taillights, but if you look closely at the lower edge you can see one of the mounting holes for the SS badges . The hood louvers came as part of the SS package. They swapped out the 396 front marker light surrounds for the Impala 427 ones from '68 . As for the engines they swapped out the L-78 short blocks for the L 72s and reused the heads , intake and carb , distributor , water pump and pulleys. The 396 short blocks were then used as warranty replacement items . Did anybody notice that the steering wheel still had the SS badge on it ? Those green line S.W.gauges are correct for a Yenko .
Well it sounds like he bought a non Yenko. Shame being that this one of 95 cars in his total collection is a fake. Next we’ll hear that his Reggie Jackson owned Camaro isn’t real either
@@TwoGuysandaRide you weren't paying close attention to my comment , contrary to wat most people assume , the 1969 Yenko Novas were not COPO cars . They were built by the dealership the same way they built the cars in '67 and '68 . The 1969 Yenko 427 Camaros and Malibus were COPO cars that had the stripes, badges ,gauges and mag wheels added at the dealership . The Novas were built the hard way .
@@bobbrinkerhoff3592 ok, thanks for the clarification. We appreciate your knowledge and thanks for sharing with our viewers
i noticed the ss on the steering wheel...i thought that was odd also
Had no idea on the swapping of shortblocks, how cool.
Remember when you could buy those over the counter all thier offroad cams heads etc. Best was thier flat tappet lifters those were what most car guys used after they bought a camshaft. Never had one go flat
Love that 67 442 W30... but insane Nova!
Yeah that 442 was awesome but this stealth Nova is insane. Super fast in a straight line.
I had a copo 427 built in early 1970 late 1969 and I drove it like you're supposed to 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤪🤪💯💯
Right On!! Wrap it around a tree??? :) thanks for sharing!
Awesome
My dream car. Yenko Nova baby
Thanks for watching!
No problem I just found this channel and I already love it.
@@Dude101p well we’re glad your enjoying our videos, we have a blast making them. Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already. Thanks again for watching!
@@TwoGuysandaRide oh im totally subscribed. Keep up the good work
That startup sound, tho...
Right??!! Was also fun to go for a ride and feel the back end get loose when Doug punched it!
Please film a video of this Nova driving down the street and at the drag strip. What are the 0-60 and 1/4 mile ET/top speed numbers for this car?
This car is in collection of over 90 cars, not ours, we filmed it at the collectors garage. Thanks for watching
Bet it almost never gets driven which is foolish. Garage rot is a real thing.
WIthout a sticky drag radial this thing would smoke them well into 3rd gear
Hi this is Max Stratiyenko and I was just the 300th liker upon this video 😅😊
Hey hey....we need to have a party :)
Hey Max, I just gave the 370th like 👍🏼
I must visit this altar of goodness that belongs to Bob Martin. Very nice.
Concept is simple--take cheap light car, stuff a big engine in it and now you got a fast, cheap light car. Not enough of these around.
Bobs collection is definitely a must see. Great guy and fantastic support staff too. Thanks for watching and please hit that subscribe button
1969 yenko novas were the fastest yenko..0-60 in 4.7 seconds..drag slicks open headers
Very fast…..in a straight line
MotorTrend article claimed 13s
A 375 hp L78 SS 396 Nova was hardly a granny car lo l
We're talking about the looks as its kind of a sleeper. Thanks for watching
Too bad you didn't take it for a drive.😢
We did but that part didn’t make the video because we were laughing and having too much fun
@@TwoGuysandaRide With those skinny tires I bet you that the car is a handful!
@@robMrRob Its a car that was designed to basically only got straight....very fast...not built for cornering at all
The car didn't handed at all it was made to go in a straight line
Go FAST in a Straight Line…only! No corners allowed.
Needed a 69 Z28 for handling
Throw some mats in lol
lol I guess
how many miles?..
No idea. We we’re having too much fun driving and seeing how fast it’d go in a straight line to care.
I have a 72 nova I am trying to sell. The body is pretty much perfect., interior needs work. It has the 250, and two speed powerglde. It was bought new by my grandmother also has less than 100,000 miles on it. Been sitting in the barn for quite some time, recently started it. My problem is that I don't know where to start. Can anyone help.
Hopefully one of our viewers will give you some ideas
