Joe, I want to thank you for all the info you do provide. Other tuners are crazy to think having public info about tuning is going to kill the tuning industry. I know I am preaching to the choir, but that is like saying: sell lawn mower to the public is going to kill the landscaping industry. Some people want to cut there own grass, but many other people are more than willing to pay someone else to cut thier grass.
Just saw a fuel pump output circuit fry on a sniper 1 a couple months ago. Something on the PCB shorted and even with us powering the fuel pump separately, the sniper completely quit commanding spark or spraying fuel. This was on a truck that was actually wired really nicely. It happened the same week that my personal truck with a sniper stranded me due to the timing output dying. Then holley’s refurb replacement hung the injectors wide open and hydrolocked the engine when I was setting up the initial wizard just to make sure it would run. The sniper 1’s are flat out spotty with reliability. It’s to the point that none of the local shops around me will install any TBI efi unit any longer. Dominator, HP, or Terminator X with a multiport setup only.
Brooo......thank you so much for answering my question about the Mac valves !!! Your videos have helped me out so much man !! Wish I could afford your classes but I'm getting there....I found my issue my dumb arse didn't tighten the gate clamp enough and was leaking....she's a ripper now thanks Joe !!!!! Also I felt like a rapper seeing my name in your video 😂
The number 1 thing I would recommend an advanced table to be used for is fuel pressure compensation (with a fuel pressure sensor). I wish holley had it built in already. Just my .02
People don’t listen. You can no way tell people online how to time a engine. Each one is different like you mentioned. If you can’t figure it out then pay someone that can. It takes time and time is money.
Very interesting as always, thanks! Question, I have read that running Sniper EFI systems can be risky for new engines, particularly when a cam break-in is involved. Simplistically, I am of the view that you would make the same preparations as you would with a carburettor car including setting your ignition timing events etc. In terms of the EFI, is it not just a case of setting up a safe fuel table with learning disabled for the break-in period? Your view on this would be appreciated, is this a discussion matter for a further video?
I have a quistion i got a stock 99 lq4 with the term x just got it to start and got it runnen a bit on "self learn" but it runs good at high rpms then itle start back firing out the exuast on low rpm to idle switched the learn parameters on closed loop to 20 percent each but have been stumped for a while
So Joe I bought a 1992 mustang with a 331 stroker. It has a Holley super sniper system in it. It only had 500 miles on the build when I bought it. What's the first step I should take to learning about the sniper
@JoeSimpsonAtTempest whats your opinion on the terminator x stealth 4150 over the sniper? I was looking at having the upgrade path to a hp ecu and the ability to add timing control.
Not the amazon special, push button switches, Joseph...😳. Any person who's watching a video on how to tune their own holley, would most likely know where to buy a goddamn button switch. More specifically, I was asking about the slightly more difficult to find in stock, sloppy mechanic "dial-a-boost" rotary dial switch. It's been sold out every time I've looked and would like to get one even if it's from a "secret website" dikk. BTW, love your stuff, keep it up!
I've owned mine for over a year now. Ease of tuning and data logging is great. Would I swap from carburetor to the super sniper 1250 if I had to do it over again? NOPE.
I was fixing to purchase the sniper 2300 when the sniper 2’s came out so I decided to wait . Do you know if there is a sniper 2 2300 series coming out any time soon. The vehicle I’d be installing it on is a 90’s Toyota pickup, 4 cylinder. The 22r
Yeah, the timing thing. Some guy asked about what his timing should be on his 6.0 LS L96, and a lot of people were going insane that he had 22 degrees at 4500-6500 RPM, like, he was going to blow this N/A motor up. 22 stupidly low degrees 😀
'69 Nova 427 BBC 550hp Cruiser & weekend Autocross once a year. Which is better, Terminator Stealth master kit or Sniper2 for me? With the Sniper I'd be able to afford a New Fuel tank/intank pump combo and Sniper Hyperspark Iignition system.
I’m building a new tune file for my new car (I haven’t started the build yet ) I just wanted to go ahead and get the tune out of the way. I know the Holley will tune the fuel table all buy it’s self but what is the optimum timing going to be thanks for answering my question quickly.
Wow I didn’t think you would take my last question seriously. I deliberately asked questions with out any info to answer them. I was joking kind of like trolling I guess. I was just making fun of the guys that are serious about questions like that.
It seems some cars will need up to double the desired boost pressure on the dome to make desired boost even tho exhaust backpressure is still 1 to 1 with boost. Curious if you have dealt with this and AssuMing everything is correct mechanically what would cause this.
This was just as painful to watch as it was for you to do… 3 min in and I wanted to kill somebody lol as a technician/shop owner and holley guy myself I can only imagine the insanity you deal with on a daily basis lol
Hi joe I like your videos keep up the good job 🙏 in v6 built 300 holley had a software glitch in map/dome setup so you can’t run advanced turbo do you think they will fix that ? I have talked with holley they said I just should run dome only 🤔😡
Hi Joe. I have an HP and it's worked great for me. I'm now wanting to add things for drag racing. I need boost cont with co2, trans brake and bump, but also want drive shaft speed. Flex fuel, and g meter. Will all that work I'd I have an I/O add module?
You’ll be needing the I/O module for all that. There is a lot of potential for more advanced tables and it is worth the money. It’s a great option compared to going to the Dominator ECU.
with an amplifier and headphones on and detonation is heard, how many degrees do you pull back? i have pump 93 and 100% M1 currently. this format of the Q&A is pretty rad.
Brother, that's a crazy question, no offense. You can add M1 (Menthol, correct?) that has the ability to stop detonation all by itself. But it's not clear from your question as to how or when 93 is used vs M1. Do you have a second set of injectors for the separate fuels? Are you running an alky kit that's spraying the meth into the intake or is it just a flex fuel type situation, in which case your injectors could very easily be running out of elbow room. But most importantly, you left off why it's detonating. Is it high compression? Turbo? Blower? Spark plugs too hot for the compression/power adder? The biggest thing to remember is that detonation is *_always_* the biggest reason that an engine blows, so pull timing until it stops detonating, then go down the path of more meth/less boost/colder plugs/richer mixture etc etc but stop the detonation immediately if not sooner. I'm hoping Joe jumps in here, but the odds of him answering you will increase if you can spell things out a bit more so he knows what your combo is. If Joe is too busy to jump in here, I'll keep checking back and I'll walk you through things. I have experience with high compression, nitrous, turbo and centrifugal superchargers. If you're running a roots or screw blower, I can help a little but not nearly as much. I've run my Grand National with 93 in the fuel system with a meth kit coming in later, an LS with 16 injectors one set running 93 and the other running methanol just to give you a couple of examples. At this point I think it would be pretty cool if we can get your car lined out in the UA-cam comments section! Have a good day brother
@@RonniePTexan I have a second set of injectors that runs only m1. Actually 11 injectors total. 8 on the main rail and 3 that are on pwm control. They come on in stages as the boost controller gives duty to my 4 port. My timing is at 17* at 17psi. The truck is a 75 f250 with a tiny 414ci Windsor. My truck isn't detonating, it's not doing anything but being reliable everyday. I was just throwing out a question.
@@Go4BrokeOffroad Sounds like a cool combination. I'm glad I misread your comment and you aren't having detonation problems. If anything, you are running timing and boost at very safe levels considering the meth getting added in on top. I was running 26 PSI in my GN with 93 and alky on the street and never had a hiccup. A more serious problem is that tiny, microscopic Windsor you are running. My guess is that you are probably having to tighten the belt and make do with only 800-900 HP in street mode. Hopefully one day you'll be able to get a bigger motor and not have to feel so bad about that tiny engine...lol Have a good day brother

We made a cable to hook to the new connector on the Sniper 2 and was able to tune with the laptop! 🤘🏼🔧🔥💯

We actually were able to make a CAN cable for the Sniper 2 and it works for laptop connection. I was super annoyed that Holley does not offer one.
Should be pretty easy to make one but the average consumer isn’t going to do that. I still think the cable should be included in all of the kits
