Spiral wound gaskets are fabricated from thin metal strip sandwiched
between layered of non-metallic filler. SWG has alternative spiral layers of thin metal sheet and filler material. As these layers are wounded in
continues spiral forms, these types of gaskets are known as spiral wound gasket. These gaskets are extremely popular due to the wide variety of available styles and sizes.

Please, would you like add video about test performance of spiral wound gasket
wonderful
Excellent Informatin
Hi first i am very thankful to you very important information must be time to time provoide the details & sir please provide LRNG supply system with details.
What type of qualifications a gasket and gland packing needs to follow to qualify in nuclear industry specially near core reactor cooling area but not in primary circuit
would this video be the same as what they call a GHE type 316ss/grafoil gasket?
Can you pls make a video on kam profile gasket.
I choose my weldneck flange NPS 12 with spiral wound gasket NPS 12 too. But gasket's outside diameter blocking the entry of bolt in the flange. Why is this happen ? is my step choosing gasket wrong ? thanks
my flange and gasket rating is 300
What type of gasket can I use for flat face gaskets. I am facing leakage issues when using a 5mm simple rubber sheet as gasket. Fluid is water and working pressure is only 5 Bar. Pls advice
I ve used SWG without inner ring in drainage system low pressure
Just because we don't have spare gaskets in that time
Please tell me if this correct or not ?
+Youcef El Seddik Berrim Inner ring is not mandatory. You have to check your piping class for drain line if it allows the use than no problem.
In my personal opinion it is ok to use swg without inner ring in drain line as there is no chance of vacuum but check your pipe class to confirm.
Thank you sir
I have used swg with outer ring and no inner ring in oil lube applications. Based on your video the flowing hot oil would affect the integrity of the graphite wouldnt it?.
For fire water applications can you use swg on flat face gaskets? Could you do a video on galvanised pipe for fire water applications?
The one of the main reason for gasket disintegration or damage of SWG is an excessive tightening of flanges.
You of inner ring are recommended as said in the video 1) when there is a chance of vacuum in the pipeline. 2) when contamination of process fluid is not acceptable. SWG with graphite fill and SS metal strip can be used up to 720-degree centigrade. The designer will consider various parameters while recommending the gasket. I don't think in your lube oil case is there any issue if you are torquing your flange properly.
For fire water application normally flat face gaskets are used.
Do you want to know about the galvanizing process or something else?
HardHat Engineer thanks for your reply. I am in the process of developing the pipe specs for fire water a pipework expansion. I have been told by the client galv pipe with ansi flanges, but galv piping for fire water has got withworth threads. Will you be able to mix medium gauge galv pipe to AS1074 with carbon steel 105A forgins?
Yes, you can use ASTM A105 galvanized forged fitting with you standard carbon steel galvanized pipe. To get the confidence, I suggest that check the Standard of AS1074 and A105. What you have to check? Compare the chemical and mechanical properties of both grades and you can tell your client with confidence that you can mix them.

Please note that Graphite can not and should not be used in any elevated temperature.
Normally the limit for graphite is 400 to 450 degrees C depending on what graphite is used and how long the gasket needs to work.
The reason is that Graphite oxidize. Graphite is carbon and carbon reacts together with heat and oxygen. Oxygen are present everywhere to some extent.
Ma Gip
Are you talking about fire water lines on or off shore?
For all sea water lines you should be careful and not use graphite in any gasket. It will cause galvanic corrosion to the flange and end up causing you a lot of problems and cost.
Winding TP316 what does mean?? and the sealing ring metal will always SS...???
Answer plz...
SS316 is material garde of stainless steel. Inner ring can be SS or CS depend upon the fluid of the pipe.
Sir, we need gasket for cryo application..but the prblm is mating flanges are of different materials..ie monel and ss..operating temperature is 90 K and pressure is 20 bar..u please suggest one sir
I'd chose an isolation gasket to avoid galvanic corrosion. Maybe teflon if it holds up to the pressure rating.
that colour coding swg are recomended by asme or by manufacture.?or manufacture must follow colour coding??
+amin ismail That is ASME requirements.
ok,,thanks for info,,hope u can make video flange defect and how repair with following standard and code.
Amin, what type of flange defect you are referring?
common face, like RF, RTJ..
