8:24 😸 If you listen to the whole story, Translucent was in that woman's home alone, when he stopped the home invasion. He was naked in her home, already and watching her. Sick dude.
The Boys is much darker than typical superhero stuff, and it takes it time to deconstruct many of the ideas that people treat as a given in that genre.
It's a fun, well-written series from the creator of "Supernatural"... You might not get every single reference/visual gag, since you have limited exposure to superhero fare, but that isn't essential to enjoy this show. Now that "Lucifer" is over, this show might be enough to keep me coming back. ;-]
Series are worlds better than any film now days. The best mediums for story telling now without a doubt. I haven't seen a good film in years, but I see several amazing series every year now.
Phase 1-4 of the MCU was the best and definitely worth your while. The Boys is basically a story of what would happen if Superheroes were not actually the good guys. If you like it then Brightburn (2019) is pretty similar. Hughie's dad who you recognised is Simon Pegg from Shaun of the Dead and the Cornetto Trilogy, Paul, Spaced and the Mission Impossible movies.
I love these show, cos i mean, for real, if super powers were real, people would not be idealistic and good, people with powers would probably be assholes cos none could stop them.
He’s a Kiwi, not an Aussie. The character is English, so it’s a fake accent, just a New Zealander doing it badly, rather than the usual American… Not a criticism of his performance, which is great.
@@fisongb To be fair, I've heard fellow Brits who sound almost exactly like Butcher. IMO it's in the realm where any "badness" can be chalked up as individual variation, rather than accent, as whilst, on the whole, it's not a great generic rendition of the Cockney accent he's going for, as the voice of a specific person with that accent, I think it's absolutely fine.
Idk if you know these characters but "the Deep" 6:26 is a reference to "Aquaman" from DC comics (aka the universe with Batman, Superman and so on). "Queen Mave" 2:21 is a reference to "Wonder Woman" from DC comics. And "Homelander" 2:33 is referencing "Superman" (form DC comics), at least in regards to his powerset and outfit with cape and also a tiny bit of "Captain America" (from Marvel comics) too, at least in how his outfit looks. 7:44 The entire "The Seven" Superhero team from this show is a reference to the "Justice League" team, the main superhero team from DC comics btw. 8:33 I also think the "Invisibility Cloak" might be a small reference to the "Harry Potter" universe.
You need to watch the new series: “Fallout”. It’s based on the video game series and based on fans of the games, it’s EXTREMELY faithful to the source material as well as being excellent! ❤
To answer your question: this is nothing like Marvel and DC. Marvel and DC is very vanilla and the good guys win. This is basically normal people fighting against the powers of capitalism, and capitalism has superpowers. It doesn't always go well
Tbf, it really depends on what DC or Marvel characters you're talking about. DC has the authority which inspired invincible and the boys and marvel has deadpool, etc
Marvel and DC superheroes are aspirational, the product in many early cases, of young Jewish survivors of WW2. They imagined a world in which those with great power might turn that power to the good of mankind rather than to suit themselves. A lot of folks don’t get this. It’s not created by people who don’t know how fucked up the real world is. Quite the opposite. The creator of the boys doesn’t like any of that. Hates it, in fact. I genuinely don’t think he understands its purpose, how the heroes are meant to represent the notion of noblesse oblige, a concept upon which few other mediums linger. What ARE the obligations of the powerful? This asks a similar question, but in a different way. The show is MUCH better than the comic.
The best (and worst) things about The Boys, is that each episode is more outrageous than the last -- and it's not just per season. It ramps up through the first three seasons, consistently. I'm almost afraid to see how they will outdo themselves in season 4.
Such a fun (and sick) show! What sort of movie recommendations are you looking for? Not really a Marvel guy myself, although the ones I've seen have been fun too. More of a Coen Brothers fan. Anything by them is a masterpiece in my book.
This show is a bit of a spoof of the superhero movies of the last 20 years. So you not knowing about them could cause a lot of this to be lost on you. That said, if you decide to watch those other superhero movies, it will be interesting to see how you take those after already seeing this.
Ooh, this is way different than Marvel / DC. Apart from the gore and sex, it has really great storytelling, compelling characters and very insightful social comentary.
this is basically what reality is if you give people super powers. DC and Marvel is soooooooooooo far from this. Those 2 are just bad vs good. This show is about..." who the fck is the good guy here?"
I'd have to say that one of the signs of really good writing is that you fell for 99% of every personality/situation traps laid out for us! (O-M-G.. the comment on The Deep... just before.. hahahaha... ewwww....) Ha!.. Except for Homelander.. you spotted that grin (although it may have been a subconscious spot at this stage). Enjoy :-)
Comics you can split into 3 groups really. You have Marvel which is dominated by the MCU. If you watch those it's best to watch the MCU in release order as the stories are interwoven. They tend not to linger too long on one hero or team, some you would love, some just like, but they are all connected, but because you aren't with one hero too long you are soon somewhere else. Release order at least up until the end of phase three. Then maybe explore other Marvel non MCU content like the Fox Xmen & Fantastic Four Movies, the Netflix tv shows, the Sony non MCU Spiderman movies etc... then go back to the MCU. the second group is DC is the other big superhero comic. Theirs is more a patchwork, some connected, some not, some are truly great, some not so. Where they are less connected, treated as separate projects they can feel very different like some of the independents. Both these have the more famous, loved & traditional superheroes. The third group are the superheroes from smaller independent comic companies. These tend to be edgier, smaller budget, when they are good they are literally the best & when they are bad, well they can be super bad. The Boys, Invincible (18 animation), Sin City, Kickass are among the best of these. I hope this helps, if you liked episode 1 of the Boys you'll probably love all three Seasons & Gen Z which is a bit like Season 3.5, great reaction
The Boys is what happens when you give random people superpowers. That jerk that just cut in line ahead of you? Yeah, now he has superpowers. The Internet troll? Same. Making it worse is a corporate manipulation for market shares and merchandise. It's a great show but, fair warning: you'll need a strong stomach and a touch of sadism for this series.
Not to discourage you, but I don't see you going far in this series. If you go, I'll watch. I'll thumbs-up. It's . . . um . . . the hands? Uh, yeeeaahh.
Hey ellierose! How you doing? The boys is def a fun show to watch s3 is the best so far imo Yeah we all loved erin moriaty until she f cked up her face so bad

ngl I couldn't help but laugh at Ellie going "Oh he's cute" about The Deep MINUTES before we see how awful he is.

The actor for Billy Butcher is Karl Urban. He's been in a lot of films like the last two Lord of the Rings films, Star Trek trilogy, and Red.
Thor lol

Just for a "Flavor" comparison...
Marvel is for Pre Teens
DC is for Teens
The Boys is for Adults
