How Drivers LEARN a New Route Without GPS

  • What up player! So I guess I didn't clarify this in my video about how we navigate without GPS. We first get trained on the route to learn addresses, where to deliver, and the most efficient way to run the route for a week or two. So you'll essentially be running with someone that has all the knowledge about the route and you run until with them until you're comfortable to be on your own. If you have any more questions, make sure to leave them in the comments below! Thanks for tuning in today, and i'll catch y'all in the next one. Peace!!!

    Ayy, I wanna give a thank you, to you. Because of your videos, I have no idea how I found you, but I left my Management retail job at CVS & joined UPS as a driver. I was fortunate enough to be promoted to a full-time permanent driver just a week into the job, now I'm a driver. Always thought about becoming a driver for FedEx/UPS, but your videos made me make the jump. Thank you.

      @Bavex01XPro yeah but you’re also unionized - so you just pop in your truck and go. Low pay but understandable for the amount of packages that rural area had. This time it’s for a different contractor and he told me it’s better pay then what I did have then. I deliver for UPS and the only route I’ve been trained on was my training route. After that I’ve done atleast 15 routes maybe 20, but I was just thrown Into them and had to teach myself. I just buy a suction holder thingy for my phone and attach it to the windshield. basically GPS every address for the 1st day. 2nd I do the same but at that point I already have most of the business memorized and just GPS the residentials. By the end of the week I have 75%-90% of it down and don’t have to use my phone much. As for businesses those are the hardest. I basically just ask around for where their deliveries go but once you deliver there once you already know where to go the second time. That’s just me though. UPS has a map that shows us all our deliveries for that day on a map and has each stop pinned and in order for us. So some people just print that map out each day and just follow that. But everyone has their own way of learning. But one thing we can all agree on is learning a new route sucks, especially the 1st day.

    I work for UPS. We don’t receive training normally on a new route. We receive forgiveness for being paid over for the first week on a new route. Essentially what that means is they don’t give you a hard time for taking longer than the route is scheduled to take for the first week while you learn it.
    If it’s a straight residential route it’s not an issue but business routes aren’t fun to learn on your own.

      Some UPS locations aren't hiring drivers off the street; they have to offer that to the inside workers first & at some locations, it may take years.
      Their union is weakening too, allowing for lower paid drivers 22.4 in the system... it's still favorable than FedEx when it comes to benefits.

    • @mrchichmagnett7761
      @mrchichmagnett7761 4 роки тому

      Earl A. It’s not that it’s weakening it’s the fact that UPS as started to deliver on Saturday’s and soon Sunday as well. The 22.4 drivers will be in charge of delivering the weekends making sure the regular driver only have to work Mon-Fri. And the lower pay is only because they aren’t driving more then half the time. The 22.4 drivers in my building are only driving 1-2 days a week the other 3-4 days they’re working in the building to get their 8 hours so it makes since if they’re only driving 25% of the time they get paid $1 less. But still only driving 1-2 days and only making $1 less is great. And yes their top rate is what $5-$7 lower but let’s be realistic 99% of the drivers won’t even stay 22.4 longer than 1 1/2 years because at that point a position would have opened up and they would’ve been promoted. Literally the people that will actually reach the top rate for a 22.4 drivers will be the ones that refuse the promotion when offered. And before you say anything I am a 22.4 driver myself so I do know what I’m talking about and I’ll be moved off 22.4 when the next batch of driver come in which they’re currently training them now.

    How do you normally receive delivery instructions? I saw that your new scanner read them out to you, but how did you receive the instructions on the new scanner? If someone asks for a call during a pickup, do you normally give them a ring? Thanks for a glimpse into what you do!

    I use to work at FedEx ground but as a truck loader AND I HATED EVERY SINGLE SEC OF IT! Getting overworked for $12/Hr fuck NO! The only good thing about FedEx is it payed weekly instead of Bi-weekly. I wonder how it’s treating it’s employees with the pandemic out!

      Drive for Uber, Lyft, grub hub, etc to gain that 1 year experience... but really do something in the trades as this is just a means to a weekly paycheck.
