Two corrections: At 6:59 the speed of sound should be more like 340 m/s (not 440). So a bit slower. That means you need to be somewhat closer to reduce the delay in sound. I think I mixed up 340 and 440 because I was thinking about A 440 which is the frequency of the note that is often used for tuning. 8:42 I say 48.7 ms out loud, but typed 47.8 ms. It should be what I said out loud. Thanks to Adam Spiers for catching the first one.

A simpler way for a musician to think about latency: Sound travels at about 1 foot per millisecond. So if you have 50 ms of latency, it is like playing together with someone who is 50 feet away from you (with no monitors).
You could add people you want to play with as friends and do a session for friends only. That's one option. Or if you quick start a private session Go to session properties, And change ‘Musician Access’ to what you would like.
Thank you for sharing. Where can I get Jam Kazam? I am a cello teacher and conducting a youth orchestra. And it’s sad that we can’t play all at the same time. Thank you
Your concert analogy is a little off base. When you see columns of speakers mid-way back at a large concert latency a consideration, but not the reason. If the crowd goes that far back, you can't get it sufficiently loud on the back half without it being insanely/dangerously loud in the front. When they have a secondary stack in the back they use delay lines to ensure that the sound from the front stacks and the mid-way stacks arrive in sync to listeners in the back half of the venue. This is also true of arenas where they are often small speaker arrays to address audience segments in the elevated seats.
All right, thanks. I know it's not the main reason to have speakers throughout the venue. Sound intensity decreases with the square of distance like an expanding sphere's surface area. I understand that. I was trying to tie it to the idea of latency though since that could be a situation where it could be noticed.
@@SaxStation it's not the reason at all tho. They are called delay stacks because they are delayed. That's the actual opposite of what you describe. Nice informative video tho do you work for JamKazam?

I'm not endorsed by JamKazam, but I like it. www.jamkazam.com/

Thanks, that seems like a good shortcut for people in the US.
Awesome video. I've been itching to do something like this.
That brought back memories of audio engineering class. Haha. Thanks for the tips on Jam Kazam.
Thanks Tim. Thought it could be useful. Might do a followup video if I see some questions.
Thanks. This video cleared up alot of questions
based physics professor destroys Zoom, does millisecond jam sesh
On jamkazam I had trouble with people just popping into my private jam sessions how do I stop that?

Can you share sound and screen on jamkazam?
You can share video on Jamkazam, I don't think you can share your screen. What did you want to share exactly?
Do you know anything about Jammr?
Not yet, I tried Jamulus though and it seems pretty good. What do you think about Jammr and have you tried some of the other options?
Still don't know why JackTrip hasn't updated anything.
It probably has to do with interest and funding. There is renewed interest in it now, you can check out what they're doing at www.jacktrip.org/
I’m looking for someone to teach me how to use Jam Kazam for the jamming group I started. I would pay you... please!
I could do that. You can contact me on saxstation.com/contact-neal
Thanks
you guys should go onto omegele and then try and make an online band with them that would be awsome
Maybe I can try that sometime. Thanks
And I am from Sri lanka :)
Cool. I have friends from Sri Lanka and I went there for a month a while back.

Okay, thanks. That’s more frequent than I would have expected. It’s UA-cam who controls exactly how ads are run on videos.
