    Great to see two door jeeps anywhere these days
    Too many 4 door “overlanders” heading off to picnic locations

    I have these on my 1/2 ton Chevy 4x4 daily driver that sees occasional family overland-esq camping trips and I've been pleased with them. Now you validated my opinion and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

    Your review just reinforced my wanting to get these for my truck. Two tracks for hunting,going to to silver lake sand dunes and daily driving to work. Sounds like they're well rounded,no pun intended, to cover all the bases for me. Thanks for the review!

    Cooper Discoverer are used a LOT in Alaska. Especially where gravel and logging roads are prevalent.
    You just can’t beat they’re reliability.

      I gotta agree I put many many miles on mine in a 35 towing my fifth wheel and mild offloading. The compound is very hard, but mileage and durability is amazing. I have a bug cut near the tread from when I got hit and went in a ditch and its held up and not lost air.

    I'm with you Dave, I'm noticing that all the new 3 ply sidewall offerings lack a transition from tread to sidewall biter that made the old MTZ and Baja Claw radials so good. Maybe it is just a visual but In my mind it seems like it would lack aired down sticky goodness.

    Used that tire on a customers ram 2500 diesel, there well mannered all around. If your a mud guy it's ok but not great, snow, rocks, street, road noise are all great. It's nice to have a growing market between a AT and MT. I'm a die hard MT fan but now and then the road noise gets annoying so these fit the bill. I change tires constantly too, a recent one I'm overly impressed with is the mastercraft MXT in a 285/75/16 on a 95 ram 3500 SRW diesel . There quiet for the aggressive pattern and handle all day to day terrain with ease. Maybe after the coopers are trashed give the mastercrafts a go. Thanks for the vid David

    David, Thanks for your interesting review. You note the smooth sidewall is prone to cutting damage. I suspect the relatively wide wheel rim on the jk may be wider than recommended by the maker for that particular tyre size fitted. Suggest a slightly narrower rim might permit the smooth sidewall to 'hide' somewhat allowing the side biters first contact irrespective of inflation pressures. I do not imagine a change of rim would entirely prevent the possibility of damage but reduce the
    opportunity. What do you think?

    I have been looking at these to put on a dentside f100 2wd work truck. Just need something a little more durable than a regular all terrain. Do you think they would work well in a more narrow size? I see you have a pretty wide setup there that won't quite fit the truck.

    I'm surprised you're not running 15x8's which are more popular here in CA. I agree though, those tires do look weird. I run 33x10.5 KM2's on 15x7 OE wheel. Good compromise for street and offroad. Not to mention I'm a fan of the skinny look.

    I don’t know how much knowledge you have on this type of swap but I’ve been pondering lately about swapping the whole drive train from a TJ to an XJ. I like the looks of the XJ but I want the capability of a TJ. Also the manual six speed. Is it possible for all the driveline, such as the axles and transmission and transfer case? I can see some issues with driveshafts being short but couldn’t the regular XJ driveshafts work?

    Nice. Please keep a YT presence Dave. The best part of RK and MT before Discovery bought it is the plain, no frills, straight forward goodness of it. A lot of us fear that RK and our favorites (even though still free on MT.com) will quickly turn into over produced docudrama. Not hating at all, I get that things change and business stuff happens, but a lot of people took it very personally when comments were disabled for vids and everything was pulled from YT.
    Anyway, good to see stuff like this. Just a plain jane video of a legit car guy talking tires. I'll watch a hundred of these.

I don’t put the truck is much mud, but I can say these tires are great in the snow, when I buy 20 inch rims, I’m getting these in 35s. My favorite tires so far

    THAT sounds good.. thanks for the review-- sounds like you run pretty much like I WILL and do.. and I'm trying to decide between these and the KO2s.. but I think I like these.. Kos are nice-- but they still look a bit tame to me. I see what you mean about the PEAK on the side.. but I won't do that much with them offroad anyway-- NOT INTENTIONALLY-- and winter is another concern.. but I think these are Peak rated for that too..

      @mattferguson439 6 років тому

      NeverStopLearning no idea how these specific ones are in those conditions but I can tell you that the Cooper Discoverer M/S tires are wonderful on snow and ice. I change my tires between winter and summer and run proper winter tires in the winter. The M/S version of these is a little less on the tread (it's still got a bunch) but they are excellent in deep snow and on ice. Temperatures where I am get down to -30 Celsius in the winter sometimes and those tires are solid.

      On a heavy truck ( 07 classic duramax weighing 8500 actual) they do good because of the weight. On a jeep or Toyota not as great the tread compound is made for heavier vehicles.

THEY HAVE HAD THEM ALIGNED MULTIPLE TIMES AND ROTATED WHEELS TO DIFFERENT SIDES. WHICH I HAVE ALSO HAD THEM DO AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY OTHER THAN THE TIRES JUST DO THAT. SOUNDS DUMB BUT I GUESS IT JUST IS WHAT IT IS.

    I own these tires in a 10-ply and I LOVE them. They perform awesome in all conditions, they ARE quiet and they don't grab and throw rocks like you'd expect. They are a commercial grade tire and after over 35000 k on them, they look just about as well as when they were new. They are much less expensive than most off-load tires as well.

    When is the next episode of roadkill going to be on UA-cam? It's been over a month

      Reuben Fox you haven't seen the news ? Will only be available on MotorTrend On Demand. I've had an account got 1-1/2 years. About time they did this.

      Stuka87 this morning they made an announcement that it was all going to be exclusively on MTOD

      Yeah, i removed my comment as I saw that video just after this one. Even then, $3 a month to support something you love? Big deal.

      I paid 90 bucks for 2 years of MTOD and that includes a TON of Velocity shows as well as MTOD originals. That comes out to 3.75 per month and IMO is reasonable.

      4gasem they screwed up my bill & overcharged me. The billing department is contracted out and took about 6 months to get it corrected ( my bank had to threaten them ).

      Me too, but without UA-cam they are going to lose so many viewers... which probably doesn't matter if the money is right.

      LOW BUDGET shows, 12 episodes a YEAR, most had SPONSORS and almost 7 MILLION subscribers FAILED? It must be rough out there. If they can't make money with that, MT is doomed.

      @TheDavidFreiburger  6 років тому

      rcairforceone Yes, I prefer the S/T Maxx. The AT3 is much tamer and has a two-ply sidewall.

      David Freiburger Thanks for the quick reply. I had C load range AT3s on my lightweight TJ, and they worked pretty good (though it's worth noting the terrain and trails where I'm at are not challenging.) I've got a FZJ80 now on BFG ATs, and I want to upgrade to a more aggressive tread without going with a gnarly MT.

    Wow Freiburger I'm completely disappointed in the roadkill sell out! I understand the motor trend deal, but to forget why it exists and pull it from UA-cam is a terrible decision. The fact that they had to disable comments is proof of that.

    Absolutely not trying to be a hater here and some will no doubt disagree,
    but I’ve run many many mud and all terrain tires on many different vehicles.These exact tires were the worst I ever had. They had no traction in rain snow and ice. I referred to them as crappers.

      Scott Davis my all terrains are great in deep snow but junk on ice, not a problem for him in cali though

    I was talking to my friend about corollas like Freiburger talks about stuff. I was describing the minor changes on the tail lights between a 94-95 and 96-97 corolla. And the facelift of an 8.5 gen corolla.
