Just one man's opinion and experience... and have run both the KO2s and Baja Boss ATs. Live in Colorado, so get a healthy mix of terrain and conditions. Truck 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Current Tire/ Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs 285/70r17 E and look so good on my truck! First off, I love these tires and will be replacing them with the same thing when they're fully done. They are confidence inspiring, and did i say they look so good! KOwhos? Lol Road noise wise, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet they were from the start. After about 30k miles, they have gotten louder but nowhere near mud tire loudness/humming. Snow/ice, these tire take some of the fun out because they are just unstoppable and just grip. Confidence level is high winter driving Wet weather, these have no loss, unlike the KO2s I've run. Mud, these tires do very well but do not shed as well as a true mud tire but no real complaints. Rock/gravel, they stick and never make me feel like traction and control are remotely an issue. I will note that with finer gravel, it can get stuck in between the voids, and you only really notice when you get back to the pavement. Mild annoyance thinking you may have picked up a screw or nail. I only have 2 real cons and definitely personal cons I have, but it won't keep me from purchasing these again. They are heavy with the E rating and definitely notice them a bit while accelerating and breaking. For the first 20k-ish miles, I noticed at highway speeds (65-90mph) that the truck almost seemed to float or drift a little in lane. This was something I could completely overcome but took a little getting used to. I will note that this was after a proper alignment, so that was not the issue. If I missed something, just let me know and I'll try to respond. Hope this helps anyone looking at these tires
Thanks for the comparison! I've been running KO2 in a 34x10 R17 for a few years and think they have been great as a 4 season tire. This year however at 40-50% tread depth I have noticed a lack in snow and ice grip. The Baja Boss are now on order as their replacement in a 255 85 R17 since a buddy has them and I love the slightly more aggressive look.
Your choice in tires is exactly like mine haha.. I have 341017 on my 4runner which is really 33.510.517 and will be going with 2558517 which will be 34.11017 tire It's just funny me to see someone out there has exactly the choice of tire and size as I do
@@nathanc5789 what did you think about the wildpeak? I’m deciding between the wildpeak AT3W and the Baja boss AT. I’m looking for a tire that’s good in the rain
@@nathanc5789 How do the Baja Boss ATs compare to the Wildpeaks? I've had two sets of Wildpeakson a previous Tundra and absolutely loved them, but I'm leaning towards the Bajas for my next set on my new Ram Rebel.
I put MT Baja Boss A/T in 35 x 12.5 x 17 on my Jeep Wrangler in August. I have taken them off road in mud, snow, and ice and they have performed great! Very happy with them.
@@igorshravljevic7784 I didn't off road that much with my K02's, only twice before upgrading with lift and new tires and wheels. However, I've had them on a previous Jeep (no off road) and they handle well in snow. When mine need replacing, I'm probably staying with the Baja Boss. I might try Nitto's too though...
Have used BFG mud terraiins and all terrains for 28 years depending on vehicle and usage. My work trucks starting having sidewall failures on the AT's around 2015 and my current vehicle which is light and is running MT's had considerable cupping within 10k miles. Will definitely consider the Mickey Thompson as my next tire as my current ones are basically dangerous in the rain and are tearing at the edges with minimal off-road use.
I have 80k+ miles on my Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3. One tire finally failed after 4yrs. I do just over 20k miles a year, mostly highway each year. Currently looking for a new set as MT doesn't make my tire anymore. Not sure if the Baja Boss is similar.
@@RYTHMICRIOT Just had to throw a full set of Michelin's on my wifes infinity so on hold until march for my Mickeys. Yanking off the 285/70 17 BFG KO3 and going with the Baja Boss. Only 20k miles and are getting excessively loud for this amount of miles and rotating them regularly. My last 4 sets of BFGs have had sidewall blowout problems, towing or not. My state agency stopped using them all together and went with another major brand and the problems stopped immediately. Thought I was going to die in Estes Park last Christmas from lack of traction in light snow and rain.
I lived in that same area from 1998- 2001 and ran BFGs, both mud, and all-terrain, and never had an issue. It seems to be a recent issue maybe other companies' technology has far surpassed BFG.
I currently have 50k miles on my baja boss ats 10 ply 275/55r20. 7000 pound denali from the extra added weight and tow often as well. Down to 13/32 from 18/32. Rotated every 6k. Psi at 40. I've been thinking about trying the bfg ko2 as well but these tires have impressed me. I hate how many rocks they pick up and how much more they weight compared to other 10 ply tires but they've been amazing in everything I've put them in and wear. The toyo at3s was great as well but with having these for about the same amount of time and coming close to the miles I do like these better.
@@jwatt95 nice. How’s the fuel mileage? Is it noticeably worse than the original tires? I’ve got a 2500 gas and the MGPs are already pretty low. Also, how’s road noise?
@@harrisonfowler4461 never had the originals on it so I couldn't tell you. It's always had aftermarket with me. It is worse then the 6 ply toyo at3s a consideral amount. Got the truck custom tuned and that helped a lot with everything. Tires you can hear a slight hum. Nothing too bad tho. They literally eat through everything I've put them in. Way better then everything else I've ran. My biggest 2 complaints is they are still a decent amount heavier then other 10 ply tires ive ran and they pick up rocks like crazy. Other then that I love them. I'm seeing about the bfg ko2s being a 8 ply tire to see if that'll be a good middle ground between the 2. Rain, snow, dry and mud they've been phenomenal. (I try to keep a pavement princess. Only had to put it in mud once) I average about 13 mpg
I’ve got over 35k miles with my Ko2’s on 2018 Tundra. 285/55/20. I rotate every 5k miles and the tread depth still looks new. I live in Western Colorado so there is dirt and rocks as well as snow. I also pull a travel trailer into various off-road situations as well as down the highway. I’ve pulled over mountain passes in blowing snow. I’ve done off road trails and rocks. Never worried about my tires or been let down. Oh and there is virtually NO road noise on the highway. All that being said, I am interested in the Baja Boss and the Wildpeak as options.
I love that the Baja Boss A/T comes in 255/85r17. Tall/skinny for best performance. K02's are a good option for arid western states were wet road traction is not an issue.
I do love the Baja Boss’s, but the weight difference from the same size KO2 is significant. That said, I’ll probably give the Baja Boss AT’s a shot whenever my current KO2’s are due for replacement. Or maybe the new Baja Legends!
Great comparison and love your reviews in general. I would have liked to see the comparison extended to pavement noise and performance, especially when wet because I believe this is the K02's weak spot and I'm interested in how the Bajas compare.
I just bought the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ P3, I needed a new set and many years ago I had a set of the Mickey Thompson Mud kings and I loved them, so after buying and old Toyota truck just for hunting I went with those and I’m sure I will love these too.
Running the ko2s on a jeep tj so it being a lighter vehicle it runs fantastic. Driven across the country 3 times with them and wheeled pretty hard rocks and snow in idaho. Amazing wear and traction in all conditions. Overall I’m very impressed and will be getting another pair.
After having had almost every tire on my vehicles over the years, the ko2 has been the worst I’ve ever had. The original ko was better. The ko2 slips and slides in the rain.
I bought a set of KO2’s for my ‘04 Silverado and love them. I don’t do any off-roading, but live where the winters can be treacherous. I love the classic look of the BFG’s white letters and they perform great in the snow. Especially when plowing. Nearly every truck that plows snow in my area uses K02’s or Duratracs. The M/T’s look like they’d be awesome too.
Mud terrains are no good for winter driving on compact snow and ice, they are literally the worst tires for winter, although for deep snow they do great, the more biting edges the better for winter.
@@vincefairleigh6899 the Baja boss ats have been the best tire I've ever ran. Both longevity and performance. Went up a 45 degree incline with about 8 inches of snow easily. The toyo at3s did great as well but no where near as good as these. I also have 50k miles on these in a 04 yukon denali that weighs roughly 7k pounds from the added weight and I tow often as well. 275/55r20 10 ply and I'm only down to 13/32 from 18/32. Mix of everything. I rotate every 6k. Air pressure at 40 from my weight. I can't speak on the bfg but I may try those next. It's gonna be extremely hard to beat these tho. They've been literally exceptional in everything I've thrown at them. Dry handling, ride quality, and mpg the bfg might be better at.
I’ve been running a set of Mickey Thompsons in 285/70R17’s for 6 months now and love them. I use my 4Runner as my everyday driver and off road it on the weekends and I’m absolutely thrilled with their performance. Aired down they have great traction and no excessive roll or side wall deformation. Can’t go wrong with the Baja Boss A/T’s!
And were these the E rated or SL rated tires? I am thinking of replacing some aging KO2s with the Baja Boss ATs but the E1 rated version is too much of a tire for my need (nothing ever more than a 4-5 trail). Is the SL rated sidewall sufficiently strong?
Bought 5 KO2's for my H2 about 6 months ago. Best decision ever!!! Aired down to 25 psi and did trail 15 at Windrock Park in TN and a mud pit and they preformed flawless!!! Also racing up a mountain on loose gravel inspired confidence to push them harder. Lots of grip. Love them!!!
I always buy KO2’s. Had them on a Tahoe and my jeep. But I have a Ram 2500 with stock tires that I drive 95% on pavement. When I came to replace them I wanted to install KO2’s and my local shop did not have them in stock. They had the Baja boss in stock and had a good discount so I decided to give them a try. Now I like the KO2’s but this tire is amazing. I had the chance to drive them on ice not snow and they were perfect. Now my 99 Tahoe is not a light vehicle and every time I would drive in sand I would have to air down to get better traction. Now my Ram is heavier and the time I drove to soft sand I was able to drive with no problem. I have 33” and these tires look like mud terrain tires. Now I have driven these tires on water ice and snow and I think they work better than the KO2’s. Now if these tires last as long as the KO2’s I will switch to Baja boss tires.
I've only had Duratracs or KO2's on my trucks over the last 8 years. Both have served me well so I've never had much desire to try anything else - I know what I'm getting with these. That said, I'm really digging these M/Ts and I'm going to give them a shot next!
I ran duratracs and the sidewalls are weak but do have a good look. After 50% tread life left, duratracs are crap in the snow. KO2 are stone collectors and not good in deep snow and are loud after 50% as well. Mickey Thompsons baja boss ATs 35x12.50r17s I am running now and they are king in all areas I drive a half ton ram, can't speak for suvs experience with same tires
I’ve had both tyres. KO2 on wet roads was deadly. Downright dangerous in my opinion. The Baja Boss AT has exception wet road grip. A few weeks ago on a wet road a kid pulled out in front of my while driving on the Baja Boss ATs. The Baja Boss AT tires saved his life. If I was on the KO2s he’d be dead. The Baja Boss AT have been excellent so far in all other conditions. And I found a metal fence staple stuck in the rear tyre. I left it in there for an experiment to see how tough the tire is. No air loss yet after driving on it for hundreds of miles.
@@louisbatori9914 i had several sets of the original KOs.. horrible in wet conditions.. hydroplaned very easily.. not sure how the KO2 are since i stopped purchasing them.. MT Baja boss AT here i come !!
bought a set of 4 of the baja boss tires to replace the previous MT A/Ts i had which SUCKED in the snow. left one old MT A/T on the back of my Jk as a spare. the slight difference in styling isn't all that noticeable. it finally snowed here in denver on NYrs eve. Driving the Baja Boss ATs were great after having put 2k miles on them. originally i debated between the KO2s and the Baja's for snow performance. so far so good tho. would like to see more extensive comparisons in the snow and on ice.
That's good to hear I'm here in Denver and have Toyo Mts and they are shit in snow was leaning towards ko2 as they are tried and true but Baja Boss look the part my biggest concern is snow how well do they perform in snow pack roads?
I have 37000 miles on my KO2s mounted on 17 inch wheels. 2018 Rubicon . They’re wearing well, I rotate them every other oil change so approximately every 10000 miles. Just recently I noticed that they’re starting to get a little noisy. But they’re good in the snow, rain, and off road. I’ve had them on numerous Jeeps but my next tire will be either the MT AT, or possibly the Yokohama Geolander 003. Haven’t made up my mind yet.
I live in Northern Michigan and the KO2’s are so far my my best all around tire that I have owned. I will keep an Eye on the Mickey Thompson’s as they seem to bee an impressive tire. Competition breeds better performance for us as the consumer.
I also live in Northern Michigan and my first set of tires on my current truck were the KO2s. They did well but I decided to go with the falken wildpeak at3w because they were a bit more budget friendly. They do just as well(if not better) in the snow, mud and ice BUT my gas mileage definitely took a hit. I lost a good 1.5-2 mpg with the more of a hybrid designed tread. I was considering these MT Bajas to replace my falkens but I think they are going to have to same affect on gas mileage. Not sure I'm willing to trade the look and functionality for MPGs though. I'll keep an eye on future reviews of the bajas but I'm thinking I'm going to give them a go the next time around.
I also live in Northern Michigan and have a 2021 F350 Diesel. I bought into the hype and replaced my 35X12.50 R20 KO2’s with the same size Baja Boss AT’s at the beginning of this winter. After the first snow I promptly removed the Baja Boss’s and replaced with another set of KO2’s. I have no idea how the Baja Boss received a 3 peak snow rating as I felt they were terrible on snow covered roads. Maybe they are great in other areas but certainly wouldn’t recommend them for Northern Michigan winter driving. As soon as I put KO2’s back on I instantly regained confidence driving on bad roads.

I just got new shoes for my truck today. Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T 35x12.5x17, load range "D" at Hellbent Performance shop for my 2019 802A Ruby Red Metallic Raptor.
I went from General Grabber AT's 265/70/17 LT rated to Baja Boss Mickey Thompson AT's 285/70/17 E rated. They are 20 pounds more per tire. I did notice a difference in performance and 2MPG in fuel economy on my 2014 4Runner. The off-road performance was way better partucularly in mud or snow. On road they are a bit noisier, but not bad almost 10,000 miles so far. May go with the L/T version if these wear out before I get a 6th Gen...
They are not much louder. My ATX had 18K miles on them and now my Baja Boss have about 18K on them I am impressed with how quiet and capable they are. They haven't got any louder even with wear. I would think you would be ok with the slightly increased noise. When these wear out. They still look great, very little chipping or cupping. I will get another set.
bought the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T for my RAM 1500. Been riding on them for 3 months and love them. They are heavier than my last AT's. Still love the look and feel of the tires.
My real time review. I had Cooper ST max first, could not fault. got such a long life out of them amazing. Changed to KO2 because they were cheaper. Ya get what ya pay for , KO2 are crap , got half the life. Nothing changed in my 4WDriving off road. I really hope these Mickey Thompsons are great, going to invest in them at Xmas.
Great comparison! If I were buying today, I'd look for the MT. But, I've already got a set of KO2's with less than 2k miles on them, so I will stick with them for now. No regrets in purchasing them, btw. They've been great so far. Thank you!
Most tires do well when new. Its when they get below half way done is the thing to know. My 33 12.50 15’s still do well at this less than half tread remaining. Sand, gravel, snow, and road do really well. In ice I am still doing alright. There tho is where stud-less snow tires excel.
i have a set of falken wildpeak at3 in a 255/80r17. awesome tires for everything except lots of mud. i'll be trying the mt baja boss tires in a 255/85r17. this is for my 2021 zr2. i have a set of 34x10.50/17 for the mud. also an awesome tire for almost anything except long life and a quiet ride.
They’re great on everything but sharp rocks. I’ve punctured three sidewalls and a rock puncture through tread (in between blocks) in the last year. Nothing too technical, just rocky fire roads in Colorado. Level 3/10 stuff. Never had an issue with even C rated toyos with thinner sidewalls (but they sucked in snow and mud). I was running e rated generals. Moving to Mickey Thompson next week. Not worth potentially being stranded imo.
Still love my k02s. I'm sure the other tires are great options and perform very well, but our shops supplier is a michelin/BFG dealer and we get way better prices on BFGs which make it a no brainer for me. I'd totally buy from you guys but I'm in Canada and I'm a tech In a shop and get tires at cost!
I have 84,000 miles on my 285/70/17 ko/2's and am ordering a new set today (5th set ive owned, and i am 100% never changing to a different tire) The ONLY thing better than these is the original BFG all-terrain's i use to buy for my tacoma, that they no longer make! Ive pulled bolts, nails, screws out of the tread without having to repair them, no leaks. Ive scuffed the sidewalls on extreme trail rides and never had a gash/roll off/cut that caused concern. I run these on 2 vehicles: 2000 jeep xj and a 2003 toyota sequoia, both are modified for off-road use.
Josh, I like the details you give in your tire comparison videos compared to others out there but its missing one key components for me. Head to head real life technical challenges using same truck with same size tires. I know that would be a lot of extra work and time. How to do that I will leave up to you but I think that would be really neat to see actual side by side performance. Maybe put one of each tire on either side of the vehicle (if sizes are close enough) to try and make it as fair as possible with multiple camera angles. Just a thought, Thanks
This video was cool because I recently did a comparison on all of the popular A/T tires on the market, and it came down to these two for me. I'm still trying to decide. I'm one of those people that really likes the classic white letters on the K02, but I don't think looks should be a deal breaker. At this point I am leaning toward K02 for one reason: For the Baja Boss, they do not offer a C range tire. You have to get either the XL or the E. E is way overkill and too heavy in my opinion. No 4Runner is ever going to see the weight that requires an E range tire, and there's really no evidence that suggests that E is tougher/more puncture resistant, even though this is common belief that people have for some reason. And the E range Baja Boss is a whopping 13 lbs heavier than the C range K02!!! XL is just fine, but there are some significant differences between the Baja Boss E range (LT tire) and XL range (non-LT). The side lugs are not as big on the XL, and they do not come with all of the technology offered on this tire such as "Extreme Sidebiters", "Powerply", and "TI Compouind". You have to get an LT size for these. Not sure if that really matters, but it's worth considering. In the end, the K02 has been around way longer and has stood the test of time, and the white letters do look pretty awesome. So I may go that route.
Nothing wrong with that logic! I personally have past experience with the KO2's and I love them. I had the opportunity to use the KO2's on the Baja 500 trails and they were top tier, the way they handled the different size rocks, and sand alone was impressive to say the least. I would like to see how they handle the winter climate though.
I have 170k miles on my 2021 tacoma, I’m going to get 80,000 miles out of my KO2’s the best I’ve ever done before. is around 40,000 miles so for me I’m afraid to get anything but the KO2 since I drive so many miles, and they have treated me so well
Been looking for an alternative to KO2’s mainly for better wet road performance, and have come down to the Baja’s or the AT3’s. Was hoping this video would have more than a recitation of specs that I can find on the websites, but guess I’ll have to look for actual driver reviews. Was this just an ad for these tires?
That's pretty much what TrailBuilt is. It's an ad for their website but they are informative and pretty entertaining. Soothing facts about tires set to soft porno music and stock footage
I have ko2s as well, I couldn’t decide between falken wildpeak at3w and I almost wish I went with the falkens, their wet performance on the highway is superior in all the reviews I have read.
Bought the Baja Boss AT but never kept them due to balancing issues. Tried multiple different tires and still couldn't get a smooth ride on the highway so I went a different route. Tires looked great though. I'm wondering if it wasn't the shop installing them because I'm seeing a lot of people having good luck with them.
Last video I watched there were comments saying that they could not get their K02's to balance and had already replaced 2 under the warranty. I'm worried about spending so much money on these dang tires if I can't even get them balanced
Could have been your shop. I originally bought KO2s for my 2021 Tacoma and was having horrible issues with vibration and cupping wear. My shop said I needed new ball joints (60k miles on truck) so I paid the $1k and the shaking was worse! I thought maybe it was the tires so I bought the MT Baja Boss and the same shop mounted/balanced. I drove away and immediately noticed a vibration. They told me they wouldn’t charge me for the previous work and to go to another shop. So I went and they rebalanced… was a little better but not perfect. I took it back, they did another alignment test and told me my alignment was so bad it wouldn’t even register on their machine. They did a realignment and it’s been perfect ever since, also love the Baja Boss’s. (Sorry for the long winded story 😅)
I really like the BFg ko2. And those Mickey Thompson’s look like really good tires too! But I have to say those two sets of tires don’t look like they are designed to compete with each other.
My first set of ko2 was on 2008 dodge ram 1500 4x4 crew cab . I loved them fir mostly highway but bought for towing rv. Paid 1550 out the door 20 inch rims . Priced the other day 2550 out the door same tire wow.
Yeah, the KO2s are an incredible tire. So many people nowadays love them and want to run them which I believe plays a factor in that price. Especially with inflation costs in the past for materials!
I put 285/75/17 load range C ko2s on my 17 f150 when I bought it last year. I’ve had them almost a year to this day and almost have 30k on them and have maybe 20k left depending on how they preform off-road but as of right now they preform like new from logging roads with rocks that are fist sized to muddy roads that have an inch of Grease basically to the occasional trail they preform great I’ve had 2 flats though both about 1/8th inch slices from limestone gravel roads in both instances both were when they were worn down. And they are super quite for what they are. You can tell that they are Michelin tires the quality just so good on them. I bash them hard from towing to running logging roads and harsh poorly maintained gravel roads and having 1200 pounds of equipment in the bed. They get me to where I need to go and back even with the 1/8th inch slices. (And for reference the flags both happened on the same road I haven’t been there since and haven’t gotten a flat I think it’s just that bad road lol)
After months of debate.. I ordered a set of MT Boss A/T in a 37/12.5/17 for my 2500.. wanted something good in wet conditions.. fingers crossed they work out
Same. Just ordered my MT BB A/T 37/12.5/r20 They’re getting put on Tuesday replacing my MT Deegan 38s. I noticed your post was a few months ago, how are you liking them??
Those are good comparisons of the stats but I would like to hear more about what each tire does better or worse than the other. The Baja boss AT for me was much better in any snow that’s deeper than a centimeter(ish), like way better. The Baja boss AT is a little more predictable in the snowy turns but the KO2 is a little more predictable when a tire lets go in a turn. The Baja boss feels way more at home in a blizzard. The KO2 feels way more at home on the road.
@@jonnyhilljackson5788 after going to the Mickey Thompson it is night and day. It makes the KO2 feel like an all season tire when I’m anything but the lightest snow. There is almost no snow too sketchy for the Mickey Thompson.
Any real life experience for daily commuting highway and back roads Colorado winter driving on weekends. Mild summer direct trails and no rocks. I wish their were more real world testing in winter conditions. We have sun and dry conditions 80 % of the time despite winter cold. Then snow, snow pack.
K02 just look more aggressive and plus it's been proven in racing that, it works, so K02 still on top. Michelin is a parent company so, the technology will trickle down.
Could you verify that the sipes on the MT-AT are indeed full depth. The videos of the tires make them look like the sipes are only 1/8” deep plus I read another post that said his sipes had already disappeared. Thanks
I'm going to flip a coin. I have ko2's on my pathfinder and love them. I just bought a 4runner and think I want the mickeys dunno. Both are great from reviews and own experience. But I'm needing a change Boss it is!
@@Theyralltakenfu I went with the baja boss m/t awesome in dirt and mud, really sticky on rocks, I think they'll be OK in the snow, If you have alot of snow or a long snow season Ide go with the a/t version. I will most likely drive my pathfinder when it snows it has a/t ko2s on it and it does great in the snow, I take it up the mountains to go skiing and have great traction.. Both mickey Thompson and bfgs are good tires. Moab is dominated with the Mickey Thompsons though. The baha boss m/ts look really sweet though with the aggressive side walls.
How about road noise? I had a set of KO2s and they were louder than my KM2s. I would love it if you guys could figure out some way to measure road noise on all tire reviews, say in decibel levels, because NO ONE ELSE is doing it! Cheers, guys!
I can assure you if your all terrains were louder than your mud tires, you have something wrong with your truck alignment with the all terrains or your tires were worn badly and unevenly. Otherwise you are imagining things. The ko2s are pretty quiet all terrains.
You got a bad tire or bad alignment. K02S are considered one of the quieter all terrains. If you had load E tires on a lighter truck or jeep that could effect noise.
tested some different and for the weather we have in Sweden the k02 is magic on my setup. snow and ice here now, no problems at all. had a muddy autumn and they just ate it. trying to convince my wife to get some for her car to :) k02 is a rock solid tire
I understand KO2 are still the most popular. However Wildpeak AT3W is replacing KO2 as another popular option, due to better grip in the rain and other scenarios Definitely should keep WildPeaks in the comparison.
I agree...People seem to buy the KO2s just on name recognition alone and don't do much research on other tire brands....or it's something they have tried and liked and leave it at that. I have ridden on both and 1 set of Falkens will outlast 2 sets of KO2s easily and do a better job during their lifetime.
@@ky0611 I have no idea about other Falken tires but the AT3W has excellent wear characteristics. I have had mine 4 years and they are still in excellent condition. They also have a 18/32" tread depth same as the Baja Boss.
Not concerned about financing. Wondering if I’m going to self delete fender flares. I guess I’ll by flat flares if/when that happens. Bump stops for 33 and 35 with no mention of 34” tires😂
What is the difference in wieght between the two? For the sizes I was looking at the difference was over 20lbs per tire. KO2 was the lighter tire. Thats a lot of extra unsprung weight.
For me, I’m looking at 37/12.5r17. The Baja boss is about 80 pounds and the KO2 is about 69 pounds. That’s a huge difference in weight. I agree, the difference In unsprung weight could be the difference I’m looking for. But where I live, winter time is quite bad. More snow and ice than most places. Baja boss may take the cake for that one.

@@xxnatas69xx another thing I find appealing about the Baja boss is their performance in mud. I like to wheel in the PNW and we have some nasty clay here. But I do about 40% of my driving off-road- or less depending on the year. But the KO2 are decent in that kind of stuff, too. The only thing that I’m hung up on is added performance vs less weight. I know the KO2 will get the job done in whatever I want to do. I can use my old Maxxis RAZR on mud days. I’d like to get more into “overlanding” this year with difficult trails with a sweet camping destination in mind. Then drive her home in a couple days.
How's the road noise? I'm riding on BFG KO2, but wondering if this new MT are quieter on the the road compared to my BFGs. I'm changing them in the near future and this can help me decide between these two.
i went from ko2 to these on my Tacoma. less road noise and brake better in the snow but gas mileage went down by 1.5 mpg. on my jeep the ko2s I have no issues they brake great in the snow and not much road noise. don't know why the dramatic difference between the 2 vehicles
I ran a set of K02s for awhile. God awful cupping and chopping. They couldn't hold up to the roads I was driving daily. Great in the winter but id never buy another set
I have owned several sets on assorted vehicles. I may have bought one set but the rest came with the truck or Jeep. I never had a good experience with any of them and I don’t understand the popularity.
I had the same issues with my KO2s. Factory tires on my truck(2013 Raptor supercab), was the KOs, when I needed tires I replaced them with the KO2s. Around 20,000 miles the KO2s starting cupping, even rotating them religiously. I do 100% on road driving too. So I'm going to give the Mickey Thompson ATs a try for my next set.
I have zero experience with Bfg but I have the baja boss in a 35x12.5r20 and I love them. I am complaining them to the Nitto Ridgegrappler that I found under impressive except for looking good on a pavement princess.
For the first time in a long time I'm looking to get a different tire from a ko2 and honest the white letter one my particular truck is something I will miss. In fact I'm also looking at the legend exp and the RWL are a selling point
Which one is quieter? Which one performs better on wet asphalt?. Which is better on snow? On gravel? In mud? Does one wear faster than the other? I appreciate the effort but I came here for an actual comparison, not just the specs and manufacturer's performance claims.(no offense meant, just saying it how I see it)
Iv had the Baja boss A/T since mid 2021 and I’m no sure if it’s the tires or the Gear wheels I paired them with but I can not get these to ride smooth at highway speeds. No amount of balancing has done anything to help
Then there’s Yokohama Geolandar that also have the same capability with these two. But in a more cheaper price 👀 it’s all about your rig and your skills not the brand. Previous KO2 fan, hate that noise.
Hey man, if and when you produce a MT Baja Boss AT versus the Kenda Klever RT KR601, could you please show side by side comparisons of two popular sizes? I know it’s a pain, but I’m keen to see the size of the 35’s side by side and the 37”s side by side. The KR601’s run true to size, great tire I’m on my second set. I’ve read that the BB AT runs a bit small in the 35, if that’s true then the 37’s could be just what I’m looking for. Cheers.
Wet weather performance? Both have sipes, KO2 even has has 3D sipes, for what that is worth. But what does that translate to on the road and trail? Which tire spins easier under acceleration, or locks up on braking easier, on non ABS equipped rigs?
Off road there probably the same I want to know how they traction on a rainy road and on snow. Imo that's the deal breaker especially if you got the wife and kids on board.
What about tire noise on the road. I would love to find a tire that has the MT aggressive looks but are very quiet on the road. Does anyone have a direct comparison of db on the road of these two tires?? Thanks and very good video's
What load rating for the Baja Boss should i consider for a ford raptor? Im between D and E. I offroad, overland and actually jump the truck on stock C's right now. Looking to upgrade but dont know what load to get. Minimal towing
What he did not cover is the Baja 265 70 17 has a speed rating of Q 100 MPH and the speed rating of the KO2 is S 112 MPH. I will never be doing 100MPH but .
Are the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs in SL (not E) louder than the garbage stock wranglers that come on the Tacoma? Just curious how they compare on regular roads in terms of sound and manners. I know they will crush the wranglers off-road of course
@@TrailBuilt I was wondering the same thing and am surprised but pleased to hear the Baja Boss is quieter. I’ve got the KO2’s on my 2500HD now and have been pleased with them overall, but wouldn’t complain if they were a tad quieter.
I've had both. Mickey Thompson Baja boss at is exceptional at everything by far over the toyos except dry traction was a minuscule amount better then the Baja boss. Also the toyos started dry rotting in less then a year and chunks was coming up missing. The Baja boss ats I also have 50k miles on them with 13/32 left out of 18/32. These are heavy tho. Also went up a 45 degree incline of 8 inches of snow with ease in a 04 yukon denali that weighs roughly 7k pounds from the extra weight. I also tow often. 275/55r20 10 ply.

Truck 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2
Current Tire/ Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs 285/70r17 E and look so good on my truck!
First off, I love these tires and will be replacing them with the same thing when they're fully done. They are confidence inspiring, and did i say they look so good! KOwhos? Lol
Road noise wise, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet they were from the start. After about 30k miles, they have gotten louder but nowhere near mud tire loudness/humming.
Snow/ice, these tire take some of the fun out because they are just unstoppable and just grip. Confidence level is high winter driving
Wet weather, these have no loss, unlike the KO2s I've run.
Which handle better in sand on your ZR2?
Thanks for the comparison! I've been running KO2 in a 34x10 R17 for a few years and think they have been great as a 4 season tire. This year however at 40-50% tread depth I have noticed a lack in snow and ice grip. The Baja Boss are now on order as their replacement in a 255 85 R17 since a buddy has them and I love the slightly more aggressive look.
Let us know how you like the Baja Boss when you get them setup - hopefully you ordered from us 😎
Looks are one thing as both tires mts and ko2 look great! But let us all see the snow test...
Your choice in tires is exactly like mine haha.. I have 341017 on my 4runner which is really 33.510.517 and will be going with 2558517 which will be 34.11017 tire
It's just funny me to see someone out there has exactly the choice of tire and size as I do
How does it compare off road to 34x10.5x17 KO2? Mud, uphill, grass.. overland stuff . Thanks

You’re running 40 psi on a heavy duty?
@@harrisonfowler4461 it's a 04 yukon denali with a good amount of extra weight. Tires are wearing completely even and lasting.
Only had to put it in mud once)
I average about 13 mpg
I've got Ko2's on my Toyota Surf (same as a 4Runner except turbo diesel and manual transmission). Which pattern do you use to rotate your tyres?
I love that the Baja Boss A/T comes in 255/85r17. Tall/skinny for best performance. K02's are a good option for arid western states were wet road traction is not an issue.
I do love the Baja Boss’s, but the weight difference from the same size KO2 is significant. That said, I’ll probably give the Baja Boss AT’s a shot whenever my current KO2’s are due for replacement. Or maybe the new Baja Legends!
What’s the weight difference?
Great comparison and love your reviews in general. I would have liked to see the comparison extended to pavement noise and performance, especially when wet because I believe this is the K02's weak spot and I'm interested in how the Bajas compare.
KO2 weakness also in rain and slushy snow & ice. I'm sure the asymmetrical pattern will prove superior with the mickey thompson baja.
I bought a set of
KO2’s for my ‘04 Silverado and love them.

And were these the E rated or SL rated tires? I am thinking of replacing some aging KO2s with the Baja Boss ATs but the E1 rated version is too much of a tire for my need (nothing ever more than a 4-5 trail). Is the SL rated sidewall sufficiently strong?

I'm deciding between duration and KO2s, what's better in terms of noise and off road mud experience
I ran duratracs and the sidewalls are weak but do have a good look. After 50% tread life left, duratracs are crap in the snow. KO2 are stone collectors and not good in deep snow and are loud after 50% as well.

Just recently I noticed that they’re starting to get a little noisy. But they’re good in the snow, rain, and off road. I’ve had them on numerous Jeeps but my next tire will be either the MT AT, or possibly the Yokohama Geolander 003. Haven’t made up my mind yet.
I have the 37's MT Baja Boss A/T's and i love them. Had BFG which where good but the MT's are just better looking and are more true to size.

Just because Expedition Overland used General Tires on all their expeditions doesn't mean a thing....just kidding, it totally means everything!! :D
I have 84,000 miles on my 285/70/17 ko/2's and am ordering a new set today (5th set ive owned, and i am 100% never changing to a different tire)
The ONLY thing better than these is the original BFG all-terrain's i use to buy for my tacoma, that they no longer make!
I have 170k miles on my 2021 tacoma, I’m going to get 80,000 miles out of my KO2’s the best I’ve ever done before. is around 40,000 miles so for me I’m afraid to get anything but the KO2 since I drive so many miles, and they have treated me so well
I just put Baja boss on my trail boss and noticed a decent reduction in acceleration and breaking. Hopefully they’ll make up for it off-road
!
Did you change tyre size?
@ Worlds Worst Musician went one size up from 275/65/18 to 275/70/18
What was your previous tire?
How’s the road noise compared to the Duratracs?
@ Jason to be honest I haven’t noticed any road noise
I’ve been very satisfied with the MT BAJA Boss for the last two years. I had BFG KO2 previously and will choose the MT again.
What did you go with, I’m having the same issue with the MT BB not balancing
Can you educate me? What are the focus and strengths / weaknesses of each?
@@TacoRancher Is your google broke?
You must mean 285/70/17 the 285/75/17 only comes in an "E" load rating.
After months of debate.. I ordered a set of MT Boss A/T in a 37/12.5/17 for my 2500.. wanted something good in wet conditions.. fingers crossed they work out
Sounds like a good move! Can't wait to see what they look like installed on the 2500!
I hated the ko2 in snowy roads, almost felt like I was going into a 360 in turns…. I went back to snow tires but I might just try the Baja At.
If winter is your main concern, actual snow tires will be better than either of these.
These things can paddle in the deep stuff which is amazing, paddled through some plowed snow piles and my taco barely felt it.
Hated? Serious what hell wrong new ko2 cause 18/32 ko past beast snow
Would love to see how these look in 265 on the 4runner
Just did this with my 5th gen.
@@Apradavra what kind of wheels and what model 4runner .. lift? Rubbing?
GREAT to see-- I'm going to be having to decide between these for my GX 470 soon... (i'm looking for one to modify..)
My Baja Boss are amazing
K02 just look more aggressive and plus it's been proven in racing that, it works, so K02 still on top. Michelin is a parent company so, the technology will trickle down.
Which race trucks use the K02?
BFGs weather-crack prematurely. I am going with the Bajas next.Hopefully they will hold up better.
The BFG’s have treated me well for YEARS!!!
I have a 4Runner and can't decide which one. Live in Pa, so we do get snow and ice. What did you end up getting, and what is your experience?
@@DavidRamirez-fe5dd Thanks, I appreciate your reply. 👍
I am a new MT fan. I have a lot of buddies with rigs running MT versus BFG etc. I am moving to MT for my next set of shoes.
Let us know if you ever have any questions we would love to help get you in the next set!
They were brand new with an alignment.
You got a bad tire or bad alignment. K02S are considered one of the quieter all terrains. If you had load E tires on a lighter truck or jeep that could effect noise.
I have ko2s , they are quiet, no noise at all !!!
I learn so much from your videos. Thank you!
You are welcome! Happy we could help, if you have any questions that come to mind ever just drop a comment and we will help!
225-65-17 or 235-65-17 or 245-65-17 are the only tires I can run on My Stock OEM RAV4 AWD 2021, What Is the expert Recommendation ?
Digging the Carhartt beanie. Although it was fairly mild today down here in SE WI. 😎
You ain't cool unless you wear a Carhartt Beanie.
tested some different and for the weather we have in Sweden the k02 is magic on my setup. snow and ice here now, no problems at all. had a muddy autumn and they just ate it. trying to convince my wife to get some for her car to :) k02 is a rock solid tire
Both are great choices!!
Great video! I especially like the little tidbit about where they are manufactured
Glad you liked it!
Definitely a solid battle between the Baja Boss - AT3W - KO2
I hate Falken at least in standard and performance tire segment they wear out so fast
@@ky0611 I have no idea about other Falken tires but the AT3W has excellent wear characteristics. I have had mine 4 years and they are still in excellent condition. They also have a 18/32" tread depth same as the Baja Boss.
@@NigelNaughton ppl
Since Baja Boss is not in production, with no ETA for a delivery date, I would have to say the BFG is the winner.
Love your knowledgeable content and reviews brother, top block, top channel 👌🤙👊
Not concerned about financing. Wondering if I’m going to self delete fender flares. I guess I’ll by flat flares if/when that happens. Bump stops for 33 and 35 with no mention of 34” tires😂
Let us know how it goes! 😂🤘
What is the difference in wieght between the two? For the sizes I was looking at the difference was over 20lbs per tire. KO2 was the lighter tire. Thats a lot of extra unsprung weight.
He said it in the video... about 2lbs
@@jetskirehab750 No its like 20+lbs per tire

Weird old ko was only tire gripped wore even
I have owned several sets on assorted vehicles.
So I'm going to give the Mickey Thompson ATs a try for my next set.
which tires were louder ? my add kick in after two min.
I have zero experience with Bfg but I have the baja boss in a 35x12.5r20 and I love them. I am complaining them to the Nitto Ridgegrappler that I found under impressive except for looking good on a pavement princess.
Thank you.. the Nitto RGs were decent but highly overrated.
I appreciate the effort but I came here for an actual comparison, not just the specs and manufacturer's performance claims.(no offense meant, just saying it how I see it)
Great comparison! But.. which is quieter on the street? I know the K02 are very quiet but love the look of the Baja..
I agree the Boss's look sick however, the KO2's are superior when it comes to being a quiet tire!
Iv had the Baja boss A/T since mid 2021 and I’m no sure if it’s the tires or the Gear wheels I paired them with but I can not get these to ride smooth at highway speeds. No amount of balancing has done anything to help
Got Mickey Baja’s on my F350. They are weather cracking like a mother down here in south Florida.
Can we get a video of ridge grappler ko2 and Baja boss comparison?

Would definitely say E load rating will work more ideally for you!
Baja boss vs nitto recon grapplers for a Jeep? Road noise and off road performance?
Good review. Hadn't considered Micey Thompson simply because I am so used to owning KO2s. Cheers.
What he did not cover is the Baja 265 70 17 has a speed rating of Q 100 MPH and the speed rating of the KO2 is S 112 MPH. I will never be doing 100MPH but .
Great comparison. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Are the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs in SL (not E) louder than the garbage stock wranglers that come on the Tacoma? Just curious how they compare on regular roads in terms of sound and manners. I know they will crush the wranglers off-road of course
I have heard that the Baja Boss's have a really good quiet ride even at speeds over 50 mph!
Josh between these two tires which one is the quietest on the road.
Baja Boss is pretty silent on the road. KO2 is no slouch on the road but the Baja Boss slightly edges it out.
