New Guard I Invented (The Vice)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- This is a new guard position I have been developing over the last year, I call it The Vice. It is a position I stumbled across while trying an old school lasso inverted triangle attack, I stumbled across this control that locks your opponents hand under your leg allowing you to force a triangle/armbar and many other attacks ( Crab Ride, Berimbolo, Ankle Lock, Wrist Lock, Guard Passes, Crucifix, Omoplata) also it is very difficult to get out of. In addition it also is very hard to escape by falling back to your guard which gives the added benefit of making it off set the constant sweep battle that happens in competition. I have been testing it on many high level competitors coming through the gym the last year and it has been working great so far. I’m going to be getting back to competition soon and hope to get some great footage with me and my students in competition using it. I’m also excited to see the positions you all create since it’s a new position it will be fast evolving. Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts and please try to use it in class your self and post videos of it and tag @JonThomasBJJ #TheViceGuard #TheVice

Thank you for sharing your precious knowledge with us. You are the best instructor in the world. Also, I think showing sparring footage is a nice touch and should be a must-have in the instructional business from now on.
I started trying this tonight on my white and blue belts....worked great! Love it! Thanks so much for sharing!
Legend !! thank you jon so much :DDD
01:15 lasso cross sleeve to cross double sleeve

Interlacing the sparring footage was spot on. Thank you!
Phred Bookley Thanks buddy I’m definitely going to be doing that more in the future!
I was just about to say that, I love the fact he has active rolling and nailing the technique while showing how it’s done, very few people do this
Your teaching style/ability is masterful.
The fact that you actually are sharing this and potentially alerting your opponents to it beforehand all for our benefit really really says a lot about you, man. Thank you.
Tried this out in positional sparring with a couple friends yesterday....pretty useful! Today I'm going to try it on people who aren't expecting it :)
I don't think I've ever been this excited to try out a technique. I see this becoming immediately applicable to my game. Brilliant!
thingamarob hey buddy happy to hear it!! It works great first problems you might have is someone trying to Underhook far leg but it’s very counterable I’ll try to make a video on that soon as well.
@@JonThomasBJJ Yes, please do. I struggle with people controlling the non-DLR leg in general, so that would be great.
I tried this in class and got heel hooked. My opponent fell back before I could bump him forward just like you mentioned. Seems effective so I’m going to keep trying it.
This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
No problem hope you have fun with the position.
Oh my god. Last one was my "worst casé scenario" while watching everything! Excited to try!
I'm going to try this for sure!
excellente partenaire pour présenter le vice
Bro this guard looks kick ass, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, for sure I will train this one! Osss
just worked it tonight of de la Riva, got the sweep to back control. excellent.
I’ve been playing with this, and tonight I hit modified scissor sweep, from kicking them in the armpit- then into a triangle from there.
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, u are a genius !!! Love your videos since long time ago!!
Love it! Well done.
Watching it again, do you think one could shoulder roll out of it?
Nice! This will probably suit my game!
Sick!!! I love how you allowed your open mind and creativity work to create this position.
I watched this video 30 times. And now I’m reporting this as porn!! Need to keep this a secret!!
Truckee Tahoe Triathlon ahahahaha
Definitely porn! Was gonna send it to a few friends at my gym but I think I'll wait a few weeks. I'll try it out on them first!
This needs to be taken down immediate after I save it to my hard drive.
Truckee Tahoe Triathlon 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’ll do the same , that’s awesome man thanks for sharing! Can’t wait to use it in open mat tomorrow
Nice, i will try tomorow! Thx Man! Regards from Brazil!
Man, since I’ve been following you. I have learned so many valuable techniques and ideas. Fortunately, I’ve been able to implement these Into my bjj game right away. Many of these techniques and various self defense moves have literally changed my entire bjj game! BgDefinitley for the Better!!!!)
Love it! Thanks for sharing!
My instructor has been teaching me this guard for years.
If that were the case how come your instructor and his students haven't used it in competition? There would be footage right 🤔
@@MoreSwoleTheyKnow This is honestly basically the same thing and if you ever played around with De la Riva you would have hit this. ua-cam.com/video/_0gNeXv-MNM/v-deo.html
thom s that isn’t at all the same thing. Look at jons grips.
@@bryancopeland272 Haha. Okay brother.

Emojis notwithstanding, this is the most recent video he has created on the guard.
I tried this and it worked right off first try. There really is something here for sure! I was interested since I love lasso guard. I just have to work my entry a bit on it, but once you're there its about unstoppable!
This is great! I'm going to start playing around with this! Thanks, JT!
Sweet new tech! Thanks for sharing Jon
This is why my guard passing sux!! Too many AWSM guards to learn and play with!! 😂thx for sharing
I learned this from my instructor over a year ago. He has been teaching it for years.
Great variation! Thank you 🙏
Love the theory behind this! Cant wait to test it out - thanks for sharing!
Awesome stuff! Will definitely share this video with my teammates! Oss
Similar to worm guard. Nice tip on how to avoid ashi garami after getting the sweep
Wow .. I can pay for this !!! I am really impatient to see other content :) Keep it up and thanks for sharing !!! oss
So sweet. I've been experiencing a lot with cross guard lately so I think I will try this one too!
Wow. That’s pretty smart. My challenge will be getting the leg over while standing after I get the arm.
I like the last dudes name audible exasperation. Lol
great guard, love the name too!
Eight years in and it never ends 😂. Infinite guards ftw
Looks awesome! Can't wait to try this out, thank you for sharing :)
lillan Thanks excited to hear how things go for you guys I’ll put another video out soon too on defending the far Underhook which will be first defense people start trying
Omg❤️ This is a Perfect entry into the Tarikoplata.
Peter Llacuna man it combines so good with the tarikoplata
Looks so effective! Definitely going to explore this as well
DEF trying this one out the next chance I get. Looks awesome!
Awesome, will try this for sure
Awesome stuff!
Nice, I'll give it a try tonight
Awesome man! So cool!!!
Jon: "I'm getting back out in March"
Covid: 😈
Cool
I'm giving this a try today.
Damn, for a second I thought you leaked the dangerous part of the upside down spider kill technique that was missing on the lapel encyclopedia! :D Anyway... really cool, will try on next open mat!
Freaking Awesome man Nice!
Looks pretty good! I like to go that triangle from lasso as well. So I'll definitely try this!
Great stuff!
so dope. gonna play with this
:) you guys doing good work ...thumbs up
in before "i'm short guy with stompy legs. how can I make it work..."
This is really really interesting. Thanks for this. Definitely another attack to try from the lasso/spider game
mixxeerr Such a great combo you mix in with a lasso spider and de la riva game
I think you can fit the baratoplata in that position. Especially when he defends with the underhook
Yes sir, let's explore this novelty, looks pretty awesome!!! Let's vice in nice :-)
pretty amazing content, sir!!! I am surely giving it a try!!
Oooh, I like the triangle setup so much on this so much. Sneaky guard like this are so fun when you pull them off just right. Definitely going to practice this one and see what I can do with it.
This is so fire!!!
Very cool
I've been playing with this. this cross grip hidden under your leg is very hard to break. I was catching a lot of mounts after sweeping to the left side when they can not post. This is a cool position.
Testing it tomorrow 👍🏼
Keenan had sometching similar to this on Keenan on line awhile ago. He takes a collar grip, under the armpit, rather than over. He had a different name for it.... which I can’t remember 😩😩😩
Sweet guard. Will definitely try it out. Very similar to Keenans turbo guard but looks easier to set up
Aqui no Brasil a gente vai chamar essa guarda de "Vasco"
this looks so good im definitely gonna try, also make more videos on it! especially if they will be long and detailed
Very Efficient 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥
Very interesting
Awesome!!! It would be so cool if you made narrated sparring videos. I think this is the first time I've seen rolling footage with you. Badass
nice, gona have to give it a try
Hey Jon i really like your videos and i think you are a great teacher. I watched almost all your videos, but i couldn't find a mount escape. I would really appreciate if you would do one. Keep the good work :)
Yo, please release more roll footage, this was amazing
Massive 👌🤓
Please make a tutorial on your guard. Tonight I will try to use what I understand in your video ... OSSSS.
Ruthless!
thats very good
A black belt used this shit on me. Its frikking awesome
Love it
I’ve been playing with this and I’ve been taking the “reverse lassoed” foot under the leg for a sweep where I come up into mounted triangle. If they base out to stop the sweep I triangle from there, they base out and roll under I end up in another mounted triangle. I like to hide the foot to stop them controlling that leg and undoing my lasso to the pass.
Endless options for your entry when you dominate either side like that
Hey Jon!
Really, really great stuff!
I tried it out in training today and it worked really good considering it's the first time I ever did it.
So there a few questions I have:
1. This has been asked many times and you already said you are going to make a video, but the main thing that happened was people underhooking the vice leg and going for a double under. So what do?
2. Another thing was that I managed to weave the leg over the arm, but they caught it on the way to the body and shoved it down between their knees, trapping it. So kind of like the beginning of a pressure pass from their point of view. Any tips to avoid this or something I can productively do from there?
3. Entries - please give me more! Specifically, it seemed to me that I needed to create a situation where I had the cross grip and they had no grips in order to weave the leg without giving a free pass. Even them having a sleeve on my other arm seemed to give me some trouble - what do you think is the minimum requirement in order to start entering (weaving the leg) without giving up position?
Thank you very much, I'm excited to keep working on this!
Max Dieckmann hey buddy great questions is gonna do a video soon on dealing with the Underhook as well as more involved details on the set up. The underhook is definitely a solvable problem and the issue of the leg getting trapped is also pretty easy to prevent
@@JonThomasBJJ Awesome, looking forward to it!
I like this concept, but what do you do about someone sitting for a straight ankle lock? Good stuff👍
Please do this at the Dynamix camp in Stenungsund, BJJ Sweden needs to know!
Haha ok I promise I will show it there!
I DIG!
Macarrão this is AWESOME!!!
Victor Genovesi Hey Victor!!! Miss you buddy how have you been! Happy you like the position it’s really fun to work with I have a lot more series off of it as well. How’s training and everything would be fun to have you up to Gothenburg for a visit.
очень круто!
Good flow and creative follow-ups, but none of the opponents are simply finishing through on a single leg takedown or an over-under pass. They're just resisting and of course eventually losing position. All this is is threatening a triangle while getting a cross grip on the single leg arm or over-under pass arm.
The Vice Guard looks legit! If only you could use these powers for good! #BjjGenius
I'm short guy with stompy legs, how can I make it work?
if the opponent push your right leg over the head to his right side using his left arm (instead of leaving his arm dead) he will prevent the triangle and pass your guard, i think this is a way to break this guard
Cool technique, but I got caught in by a guy who loves straight ankle locks. As soon as I put my foot up where he can secure it, he's sitting back and locking it up. If he can't pull enough to get the tap, he pushes the foot over his head, nullifying the hold as he takes side control. I sent you a video via Instagram to demo. Am looking for tips to overcome this counter. Thanks!
The lovely lady got my attention... the vice has my curiosity.
thanks for improve guard set up, you improve jiujitsu
Could you not underhook the leg with your free arm, and go into a stack pass? Edit: I saw you mentioned addressing this in another video. Looking forward to watching!
Well this looks quite effective, gotta play around with this
