Questions I still have: 1. They claim a new type of lamp / screen. Does this actually make a difference than the Saturn. For example, are the days of seeing grid lines in prints gone? 2. They claim it has a scratch proof glass to avoid damaging the screen during spills and scratches. But, is this glass attached to the LCD? Can it be replaced? Does it actually stop resin from getting on the LCD? Does it negate the need for aftermarket screen protectors? 3. Are there any print issues like with the line through prints on the Saturn? 4. Has the vat design changed in any way to aid in pouring out resin, changing the FEP, or seeing how much resin is still left? 5. What is the difference between 8K and 4K resin and what happens if you print in 4K resin? 6. Are any of the issues with the Saturn present in the Saturn 2? For example, the tendency for the vat screws to become stuck or sheer off. Does the light still get stuck on.
Re #2 it's a thin glass cover held down with tape around the edges. Should stop small spills. It replaces the cell phone screen protector deal. It's pretty easy to remove from other reviews I watched
I might be able to help at least a little with the first question. The fesnel lens is used to collumate the light which is a fancy way of saying make all of it point straight up, which should eliminate any bleeding that I've heard can occasionally occur near edges. In practice, I have no idea obviously since I don't own one yet. I did pre-order one as my first 3d printer though. I'd be hard pressed to upgrade to it from an original if I already had one though unless I needed the increased print volume.

I love my MonoX and its not even the 6K version. Prints so reliably. I bought extra VAT's and other parts so I can just pull a print out and bang another one in instantly. Set that going and then process the one that just printed. What issues are you having?
I love my Mono X 4K but couldn't resist ordering this Elegoo 8K - I will miss the wifi connectivity thought - I didn't realise it didn't have it. Will get an Anycubic 8K when they release it (hopefully with Anycubic cloud and autofill)

Nice review. This one seems hard to beat. I think you should start to add the running cost in the reviews of these resin printers. It's a huge part of picking the right printer imo. This one seems to have a new screen for €100 where other (lets not mention the name) have a MEGA ;) price of €470. With all these new printers coming out, it's nice to know what replacement parts costs.
Now that my print room is up to sustained printing temps unassisted, time to start looking at upgrade machines! Third party info on Anycubic's new 12K is pretty much unobtanium which has me slightly concerned, though with my lackluster experience with their FDM machines in the past, it'd take a spectacular miracle to get me to trust them again. This was second on my list before stepping up to large format, though the massive reduction in print speed on 12" and up printers (aside from voluminous resin consumption) has me at the upper end of the mid-size once again. I can't wait for the next generation of dlp printers ever since I saw your comparison between the DLP and the 8k printer accuracy. But it's been months now. The models that I intended to design and print is around 3-10mm and miniature 50mm or above. so most LCD print when the detail is that small, it tends to get blurry and hard to identify detail. I wonder if DLP will be able to change that?
It's hard to say. I've asked for feedback from Elegoo but they have none for me on the DLP front. The professional machines use that technology, so low budget printers will always be chasing that goal.
ATM you need to look for cheap DLP projectors, because if they're not cheap, you're not gonna find a cheap DLP printer with one. Right now 8K DLP projects cost thousands.
looks like a real deal !! & the isn't to bad!! this will be my next 3D printer! great review as always Vog! the knob, bumped in2 the hammer! ha..ha.. promo pic not included!
I love your reviews. I long time ago I use to have the anycubic Photon, So I had a lot of problems with cracks and resin leakage, even drilling the holes in the piece. So Now I decided to buy the Eleggo Saturn 2. I would like to know if this problem still exists and what causes it. Cheers
I'm not convinced an autofill is needed in honesty. The max limit of the tray usually takes care of most printing needs. But who knows what the Saturn 3 will bring 😁
@@vogman I agree with that, to me that would be more useful than their wifi/ethernet though. Unless they add wifi/ethernet that just lets you upload files to the USB. I have a bad habit of forgetting the usb at the printer when I go to my PC and then forgetting it at at my pc when taking it back to the printer. Drives me crazy.
Well the Saturn had ethernet and the Saturn 2 doesn't, so I guess Elegoo are happy its a feature that's not really wanted. But I know what you mean. I'm forever rushing to the printer only to realise I've left the USB behind... or I have the USB but for some reason the format it invalid and I have to go back and start again 😁
@@vogman I have the Saturn now, as far as I know the internet only allowed for printing to the printer from chitubox if I’m remembering correctly. I use lychee now and I was never sure if printing to the printer from the computer actually sent the file to the printer or if the computer was sending the commands to the printer (similar to octoprint) I’d hate for my computer to decide to do a random windows update and screw up a print lol.
Great review, have just discovered your channel looking for my first printer. Have an option to purchase the Elegoo Saturn 2 8K or the Phrozen Mighty 8K. Would you have any thoughts to help steer my decision?
Omg... the enclosure heater would be genius expecially for where I live... too bad you don't work for elegoo to suggest this before it the saturn 2 was made :(
I just ordered the Saturn 2, this be my 1st resin printer.. yes I know it is a big beast But no point I see of paying allot of money that the smaller ones cost, I may as well have a bigger one to start with since I would have to upgrade to a big one soon after having brought the smaller one any way? This way I got the big one at a great price as this week is Black Friday sales I went on to Amazon UK and Ebay UK and their sale prices were still high at around £560. So I looked at the Elegoo site and found their own Black Friday sale was far better even when you allow for the exchange rate. They had it for $550 which was 6% off then the sale of Black Friday took another $50 off So I got for £438.00p A real deal. The Printer be coming around the 1st of December 2022 from a UK warehouse it seems. So I ordered on Amazon some rubber mats and tools and metal re-usable resin strainer with a fold-able silicone funnel and re-usable washable carbon face masks. I already have the gloves The only thing I have to get later is the Resin as in the UK it is pricey even the lower ones. I am setting up a better worktop area in the spare room where I have 3 FDM printers and a 4th one be there later on. I have room to have two worktops so the resin can go on it's own side. I really looking forward to having the Saturn 2 working.
@@vogman Thanks I did print a T-Rex Skull on a Elegoo Neptune 3 FDM printer it is almost 10 inches long and 6 inches wide & Tall I did for my Niece who wished for a Glow in the Dark light Blue one So I did it in two separate Prints standing upwards on the lovely Cura Hollow Tree Supports, with a 1 mm hardened steel Nozzle, Still it took 50 Hours total. came out fab. I designed a gold silk rock like base in Tinker Cad for it and managed to print a sign in two colours ( white base & red letters ) saying T-Rex Warning Teeth Are Sharp. and yes they sure are. and a rod in clear PETG for the middle to hold up the skull so the light can be seen better around it. So guess what I going to print on the Saturn 2? ( the same skull in blue ) of course. 😁
I was actually looking for if you had made a review earlier today. I'm looking to be buying my first 3d printer and it's between this and phrozen 8k mini and this one. how does phrozens 22 microns compare to elegoo Saturn 2's 28.5 ? do prints fail more often on one than the other? is the bigger build plate worth it if you mainly will be printing for miniature games?
Thanks for the review! Ordered mine, but will at the very least replace stock fans with noctua. Thinking of adding an enclosure heater, but was hoping to place the components (SSR, etc) inside the printer box. How's room inside?
There's never as much space as you'd really like, but the S2 like most mid-range printers has a reasonable amount of room in there. I can get my heater in without issues 😁
@@vogman Thanks! Since you're putting a heater in there, do you mean the space under the uv-cover? I meant room in the electronics enclosure. Grandiose plans to stuff all my extra electronics and a psu in there if possible. Probably won't work. 😀
Yes, the plaster cover. I might personally mess around inside the electronics enclosure but I wouldn't tell other people to do it as it may void any warranty, etc.
I am a newbie and deicided to bought the Elegoo Saturn 2. Now i try to figure out which wash and cure station for this printer is the best option. I would like to wash the model still attached to the buildplate. does the elegoo saturn 2 buildplate fits into the Anycubic Wash & Cure Plus or should i go for a different wash and cure station like ELEGOO Mercury X Bundle?
Hi, I just bought the elegoo saturn 2 Resin printer (I'm new to resin printing). I wanted to print the test file of the two towers (In the usb key) When I was looking and browsing the files of the usb key provided with the printer I saw a file named: SATURN 2 Machine parameters20220831 in g-code extension. Believing that it was a parameter to install to adjust the printer, I runed it and then it says that the printing was done (the printer didn't moved) After that I printed the two towers and everything went well and the towers quality is very good. Did you manage to read the file content and if yes do you know what it does to the printer. I also opened it into a text editor and I don't understand nothing. Thank you for your return
I just upgraded from my Mars 2 to a Saturn 4k for £375. Maybe in a few years I will go 8k, but if the Saturn is at least as good as the Mars I will be more than happy.
Yet another great review. I managed to get one of the first sonic mighty printers, so I won't be getting this one. I am liking that Elegoo is also making an 8k resin that is cheaper than Frozen resin. Competition means that we win in the end.
would you buy a m3 premium 8k or a saturn 2 8k or just wait for next gen right now? Im coming from an mono x 6k looking for an awesome Upgrade. but maybe dlp or 12k is just about to Release hahha
Well now I can finally print everything on the resin printer, and bigger models,I wanted to buy the first saturn but I didn't had money so when this one came out I got one,it will be here in August,I didn't order the 8k resin but still the details will be great anyway couse I don't print miniatures, and by the way it has the same price that the first saturn had when it was released
I ordered this thing along with the wash station I should get it sometime in July. But I did get it for 100 bucks cheaper than what it would’ve been Plus a discount on the wash station that it is compatible with.
Those figurines are REALLY cool. I despise clean up so much so though that I lay down a bunch of brown paper grocery bags then throw out the whole lot just so I don't have to do any wiping up of resin 😂
Another great video. And, well, I'm annoyed too! I wish I'd have bought one on the early bird offer (My Mars 3 Earlybird was one of my best purchases ever). But if I know Elegoo, it won't be too long till it's available on amazon.
Would you mind sharing your user experience here vegoilguy.co.uk/3drp I'm collating data on all makes and model of 3D printer to share with the printing community. Good input should give us all useful data 😁
I got nervous with this model. Quite a few first looks and reviews had print fails and from seasoned users that worried me. I had it in my basket with that early bird price too but I ended up passing on it. Its not like I don't have a great printer already. If I'd watched this I'd probably have gone for it. Ah well. I think I'm going to hang on now until we get a model where there is an official heater either included or available as an optional extra you can buy. Is it asking too much for a system that can keep the resin mixed over longer periods too? That'd be my dream machine.
Hey boss, newbie here so just take me with a grain of salt. I just got this machine and I’m in absolute love with it. I’ve been printing large figurines non stop without a single failure so there’s no need to worry.
Hi how are you can I use any LCD resin bottol on eleego Saturn 2 or just 8 k bottle because 8 k bottle I can't find it in my country I wait for your reply
Great and informative review as usual. How would you compare the Saturn 2 with the Sonic Mini 8K? I need it for ship, starship, plane model upgrade parts that can be extremely small and rich in details.
@@treposey4107 I'm thinking of getting the Saturn 2. I was hell-bent on getting a Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K, but I just found out about this one. This would be my first printer. The Sonic Mini 8K is going for 649.99 and the Saturn 2 is going for 550. Seems like a no brainer. I just want to print high quality models and if I want to print bigger ones that the Saturn 2 allows, then it's great to have that option.
Very entertaining to watch your reviews!. You have one of the most trustworthy hands on experience with most of them. So, sir I wish to ask a comparison between, mars 3 pro, Saturn 8k, mini and mighty 8k. - Where I live, Mighty 8k: $1250, Saturn 8k: $770 and Mars 3 Pro: $350 So I wonder if the quality difference is worth the price difference? - I have a Halot Sky sitting here with me, looking forward to print very fine detailed superhero characters above 30+cm height. SO would it be wise to just get a mars 3 pro addition to my Halot SKY, to simply print finer detailed parts of the models (like heads, hands etc), or just simply selling halot sky and getting Saturn 8k (or mighty 8k) and be done with one machine? thanks a lot! Cheers
I think it is a great printer as well but not perfect. As size of the printers get larger we all need autorefill option. Most of us buy bigger printer to put more smaller stuff on bigger build plate and get more object in one print and not for bigger objects to print. My self included. My problem is that my customers want full and not hollow objects and problem is when you put almost any printer to print max size full object that is not even 1/5 of print volume, just max size like yoda figurine and fill VAT to max line there is no way you will print that whole object without refilling VAT by hand. Thats when I get layer shift lines and 1 out of 3 times I have to print again and hope for the best as some of my prints are prototype object for molding and need to be perfect. That is a lot bad prints for prices of resin. I think manufacturers should make VAT volume closer to max build volume. As that is almost impossibble at least give us some option to buy and add some sort of refilling resin system to our printers if not putting one with the printer from factory. For me refilling is bigger thing then 2K/4K upgrade of the screen. I love that we are getting 8K and I will use that for cleaner prints but saturn 2 with that size without autorefill just makes m3 plus better option for me and many like me. I'm intetested in your opinion on topic of size of the print compared to VAT's max resin volume as I can't find anybody talking about that. When I ask everybody just tell me to print hollows when I go with big prints or make them smaller or pray to some higher entity when I try to add resin to VAT during printing. Adding resin to printer while it is printing is such a stupid problem to have now days
Interesting but 4k printers offer 35nm resolution Vs 27nm and if print volume isn't a thing we're talking about 2x the price besides 8k resine is more expensive
I ended up with the Elegoo Saturn 2 cause I wanted sub 30 microns, but a largeish build plate. However, the 22 microns of the Sonic 8K mini that you use for jewelry is top trumps. Do you think there's any practical difference between the 28 microns of the Sonic Mighty 8K / Saturn 2 vs. the Mini 8k? I also didn't like the odd build plate shape of the mini 8k.
@@vogman Cool. One other question about the Saturn 2, since you have one. I'm looking at the Elegoo Mercury XS wash and cure station. However, it says you need to "remove the handle" on the XS for it to fit in the washer. I'm really not sure what this means, and if removing the handle would knock the printer out of level with the base. I don't really want to level it after every print.

Got the m3 plus because I couldn't wait, it does a great job and I love the WIFI (WHEN IT WORKS, the app and cloud is finnicky and unfinished..) With what I know now, I'd be tempted to go for the Saturn 2 instead. Still love the m3 plus and the results are stunning.
I've always wondered, is 8K resin a marketing gimmick or does it actually offer improved quality over standard resins? Gives me major "gluten-free popcorn" vibes
I'm sure you can find solid reviews and comparisons on UA-cam, but from what I've read, it does retain higher detail. Whether the improvement is enough to justify costing twice as much as other high quality resins is up to you. I'm sticking to my Siraya Navy Grey.
I'll ask you a question instead. Are you aware that many UA-camrs are PAID to say nice things about products? I can say HONESTLY that I don't take payments to say what I might not necessarily believe. Thus what I say is MY personal view. Others could disagree of course, but at least you know that I'm speaking without an agenda 😁
Had the thing for a week, trying to print models prototyped perfectly on my Mars2 Pro but not had one decent print out of it other than the validation matirx. Seriously thinking of fooking it off and getting 2x Mars2 Pros instead, at least they work for me.
dont even need to watch the video to know that my wallet will hate me..., but still rocking my photon mono x (just need to fix my screen on it after a leak)
@@vogman Oh absolutly agreed. its really nice to see the generational improvements from the photon to the mono x (which i owned both) and then comepetors and such pushing improvements for all companies
I don't think I've ever been a metal melting channel. I've never melted metal just for the sake of it. To me there's really no point. If anything, I guess I'd call this a "Making" channel. I've made stuff in wood, foam, metal, resin, PLA. I've dabbled in chemistry, electronics, physics, and downright silliness. I've explored various ways of achieving my goals and in doing that learned new things and tried to show what I learned - for fun, entertainment and practicality. Honestly, if folks come to my channel and say, "He just melts metal," then I'm really disappointed.
No wifi. No web interface. Guess I'll wait for the "pro" version. 24v on a USB port to run a fan to push air through a carbon filter. Lazy engineering.

I use lychee now and I was never sure if printing to the printer from the computer actually sent the file to the printer or if the computer was sending the commands to the printer (similar to octoprint) I’d hate for my computer to decide to do a random windows update and screw up a print lol.
Wonder how much those mats are considering a silicon mat online is about a tenner and is bigger than those
Great review, have just discovered your channel looking for my first printer.
Have an option to purchase the Elegoo Saturn 2 8K or the Phrozen Mighty 8K.
Would you have any thoughts to help steer my decision?
Great video! It was a little hard to listen to though. It seems your mic settings might need tweaking. Maybe plosives or too high gain?
great vid. Any idea where to purchase a UV cover for a saturn 2. any pointers would be deeply appreciated. Thank you
Ooooohhhhh with those size and 28 micron? That's nice.
i noticed you did not make any comparisons to the mini 8K From phrozen
Omg... the enclosure heater would be genius expecially for where I live... too bad you don't work for elegoo to suggest this before it the saturn 2 was made :(
I just ordered the Saturn 2, this be my 1st resin printer.. yes I know it is a big beast But no point I see of paying allot of money that the smaller ones cost,
I may as well have a bigger one to start with since I would have to upgrade to a big one soon after having brought the smaller one any way?
Nice saving buddy 😁
The S2 is a great printer. You'll love it 😁
@@vogman Thanks I did print a T-Rex Skull on a Elegoo Neptune 3 FDM printer it is almost 10 inches long and 6 inches wide & Tall I did for my Niece who wished for a Glow in the Dark light Blue one So I did it in two separate Prints standing upwards on the lovely Cura Hollow Tree Supports, with a 1 mm hardened steel Nozzle, Still it took 50 Hours total. came out fab. 😁
Just pre-ordered one of these printers for small parts investment casting. Here's hopin'...
Large prints and good quality detail. You'll love it 😁
I was actually looking for if you had made a review earlier today.
That's unlikely to stop me, but thanks for the concern 😊 I'm sure replacing the stock fans will void the warranty anyway.
Does the air purifier actually get rid of all the harmful fumes and particles or do you still need a strong ventilation system/encasement?
Hi,
I just bought the elegoo saturn 2 Resin printer (I'm new to resin printing).
I wanted to print the test file of the two towers (In the usb key)
When I was looking and browsing the files of the usb key provided with the printer
I saw a file named: SATURN 2 Machine parameters20220831 in g-code extension.
Believing that it was a parameter to install to adjust the printer,
I runed it and then it says that the printing was done (the printer didn't moved)
After that I printed the two towers and everything went well and the towers quality is very good.
Absolutely. Competition brings out the best in these companies 😁
Is DLP going to ever get new models? We seem to be just going higher in LCD.
It’s very hard to pull off DLP in medium or larger format printers so..
would you buy a m3 premium 8k or a saturn 2 8k or just wait for next gen right now? Im coming from an mono x 6k looking for an awesome Upgrade. but maybe dlp or 12k is just about to Release hahha
Really amazing details 😎😎😎
It's a nice printer 😁
I got my Saturn 2 8k yesterday But how do i tell its the 8k and not the 4k?
How do you advise jewelers to buy Elegoo Saturn 2 3D 8K or Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K 3D Printer for small parts?
What slicer is this printer compatible with? Thanks
Good with anything in theory. It certainly with Lychee now, proving it's open source 😁
It's far cheaper than the phrozen mighty 8k. I wonder how the two compare.
Great review as usual!
Nicely done 😁
Those figurines are REALLY cool.
I despise clean up so much so though that I lay down a bunch of brown paper grocery bags then throw out the whole lot just so I don't have to do any wiping up of resin 😂
Don't blame you. Resin clean up is a pain 😁😁😁
Another great video. And, well, I'm annoyed too! I wish I'd have bought one on the early bird offer (My Mars 3 Earlybird was one of my best purchases ever). But if I know Elegoo, it won't be too long till it's available on amazon.
Waiting for mine to come
Do you need to use 8k resin? Or can you use elegoos water washable for it?
Would be nice to see compared to phrozen mighty 8k
I'll hopefully be reviewing the Mighty 8K soon 😁
Got my order in. Might honestly replace my phrozen mini 8K. It has better resolution, but this is close enough and has bigger build
Would you mind sharing your user experience here vegoilguy.co.uk/3drp
I'm collating data on all makes and model of 3D printer to share with the printing community. Good input should give us all useful data 😁
Yea yea like usual when are we getting a linier motor 3d printer tho? With micron accuracy
do you have to use 8k resin with this machine? any idea what happens using "lesser" resins? thanks!
Pls can u casting cylinder head from wax pattern with plaster and sand 🤗🥰🥰🥰
Yes, any resin will work, as long as it for the 405 wavelength, which most of them are 😁
Would you recommend the Saturn 2 or Mega 8K?
Great and informative review as usual.
How would you compare the Saturn 2 with the Sonic Mini 8K? I need it for ship, starship, plane model upgrade parts that can be extremely small and rich in details.
Buy the Saturn 2. I use it for the same and love it so far.
Cheers
Why are they using a usb socket for 24v? Seems like it is just asking for trouble with people plugging in random things and breaking them.
Elegoo Saturn 2 8K vs Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K? What do you prefer?
The AC M3 plus and M3 Max have a pump to add more resin.
what's the diff between 8k resin and normal resin?
That’s a beautiful machine
what is your perfered resin to cast?
Interesting but 4k printers offer 35nm resolution Vs 27nm and if print volume isn't a thing we're talking about 2x the price besides 8k resine is more expensive
How is spare parts support these days?
I ended up with the Elegoo Saturn 2 cause I wanted sub 30 microns, but a largeish build plate. However, the 22 microns of the Sonic 8K mini that you use for jewelry is top trumps. Do you think there's any practical difference between the 28 microns of the Sonic Mighty 8K / Saturn 2 vs. the Mini 8k? I also didn't like the odd build plate shape of the mini 8k.
Honestly Nicholas, it's very close. Yes 22 microns is better, but you need a good magnifying glass to see the differences 😁
Hi Nicholas. Would you mind sharing your user experience here vegoilguy.co.uk/3drp

Snapped early bird, now praying that customs won't put any additional taxes as its not packaged from EU I think.
anycubic photon m3 plus or elegoo saturn 2?
Got the m3 plus because I couldn't wait, it does a great job and I love the WIFI (WHEN IT WORKS, the app and cloud is finnicky and unfinished..) With what I know now, I'd be tempted to go for the Saturn 2 instead. Still love the m3 plus and the results are stunning.
how does the Elegoo Saturn 2 8K print quality compare to the phrozen sonic mini 8K ?
The Mini 4K is still king, but it's VEEEEERRRRRRY close 😁
@@vogman is the phrozen sonic mini 8K still superior?
@@vogman so which one deliver the best results? Anycubic Ultra 8k, Mini 8K? Could you make comparision of all 3?
This is great because I ordered this as my first 3d printer. I want to print miniatures for war games
Tho, with the money I spent on this. I could buy a shit ton of miniatures lol
We've all been there 😁😁😁
How about anti aliasing?
Thanks for sharing 👍
I've always wondered, is 8K resin a marketing gimmick or does it actually offer improved quality over standard resins? Gives me major "gluten-free popcorn" vibes
I'm sure you can find solid reviews and comparisons on UA-cam, but from what I've read, it does retain higher detail. Whether the improvement is enough to justify costing twice as much as other high quality resins is up to you. I'm sticking to my Siraya Navy Grey.
Yes, it is improved quality. Look up some more videos and you will see side by side results from the previous 4k version compared to this 8k version.
My friend, look up 6K vs 8K comparisons. We are on UA-cam after all, peace.
3:38 - Elegoo just refuse to abandon their ball-in-socket system. Shame.
Heard the fans are noisy is this true?
The whole printer in general is super quiet
Never understood the title "HONES REVIEW", are you saying all your other videos are not honest?
I'll ask you a question instead. Are you aware that many UA-camrs are PAID to say nice things about products?
I can say HONESTLY that I don't take payments to say what I might not necessarily believe. Thus what I say is MY personal view. Others could disagree of course, but at least you know that I'm speaking without an agenda 😁
yesss
Had the thing for a week, trying to print models prototyped perfectly on my Mars2 Pro but not had one decent print out of it other than the validation matirx. Seriously thinking of fooking it off and getting 2x Mars2 Pros instead, at least they work for me.
dont even need to watch the video to know that my wallet will hate me..., but still rocking my photon mono x (just need to fix my screen on it after a leak)
Then keep going. As long as YOU are happy with the results, that's all that really matters 😁
@@vogman Oh absolutly agreed. its really nice to see the generational improvements from the photon to the mono x (which i owned both) and then comepetors and such pushing improvements for all companies
Soy de Perú y no puedo comprar :(

A wifi SD card will bypass the lack of wifi, Toshiba FlashAir. You can thank me later :)
I remember when this was a metal melting channel.
Yes, there will doubtless be a Pro 😄
Excellent product god awful customer service, just saying
