@@Monkiegood Basically a whole verse of the song on how Technology was influencing kids in a bad way, making them crazy or Lazy ect ( it was removed in the Broadway production but can still be heard on the Album recording of the musical for some reason )
It’s pacing and a clash of styles. The original format of Vidiots was Verse 1, Hook, Verse 2, Hook, Bridge, Verse 3, Hook. Oompa-Loompa songs have to be fast-paced and sweet to distract from the fact the story is being halted for a fun moment. Also in the Broadway previews, Shaiman and Wittman clearly had trouble adapting the original musical lyrics to broadway. They had to use lyrics from the book. Verse 2 of Bway vidiots goes from criticizing modern-technology and how it makes one unhinged but then uses the Dahl lyrics where it describes how the TV makes one a nonthinker and dumb. It’s jarring. Verse 3 was also like this but it was somewhat salvaged (by saying don’t like modern technology? Have them read!). Note: The UK tour also removed the original Shaiman-Wittman lyrics (the entire bridge lyrics) to the Dahl poem but this was done because the UK tour production clearly took place in the 1960s and it changed a lot of Mike Teavee’s characterization of chronically-online vidiot back to the original Dahl television-vidiot.
