Short video of me unboxing and playing my new Gretsch Catalina Club kit in Blue Satin Flame. It sounds and looks beautiful. Check out why this should be your first bebop kit: www.learnjazzdrums.co/bestjazzkit
I bought this kit over 10 years ago in a different wrap - copper sparkle - and it is amazing. Your playing is perfect for this bop kit. For some reason, Gretsch changed the name from Catalina Club Jazz to just Catalina Club. Not sure why they did this, but mine has the mahogany shells just like this one (as described by the Amazon listing). This kit can sound small or large and depending on the heads and hoops, can be tuned to your own satisfaction. It's the best "bang for the buck" out there. Mine has played many gigs and just keeps sounding better!
absolutely superb sounding drums and beautifully tasteful playing... love everything about this video
Anthony Amodeo thank you so much! That’s great to here.
Couldn’t agree more! Beautiful job from both Gretsch and Ryan 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼

1) great playing, 2) can you speak about the heads that come with it? are they decent? need to swap straight away? thanks
Matching shirt 😳
Best value on today’s market.
You don’t to spend thousands.
Haha yep! Gotta match the shirt. 👌. And I agree! Great drums.
You sound great! How was the edge snd overall build? I've heard Gretsch quality control is horrible. Know a guy that bought a Catalina and a high end gretsch and both needed sanding and lugs tightened.
How do you think the Tom's and bass drum would sound tuned down a bit maybe a mid to low tuning more for all an all around type of thing? I want to get something like this and dampen and muffle it plenty and use it for busking to keep the volume down. Would it be quiet enouph? I'm trying to be as quiet as possible. I may get the remo silent stroke heads but those may be too quiet to hear. I want it to be at least somewhat comparable to a cajon volume wise. Thanks!
Whats the difference in gretsch u.s.a and europe or asia subsidiaries apart from price are the made differently
is the blue finish wrapped or a lack finish?
hi!
would you recommend this drumkit for anyone playing rock, reggae and other styles or is this kit more suitable for people playing mostly jazz?
Hello! I'd say that these sizes are best suited for Jazz. Specifically the 18 inch bass drum, although it could work in other styles. I'd probably recommend the shell pack they sell for the 5 piece kit, with a 22 inch bass drum. Here's a link: amzn.to/2pUoilJ
Hey sorry, I thought I replied to this a while ago! I'd recommend this configuration with an 18 inch bass drum mostly for Jazz, but Gretsch does make other configurations that will work great! For example: 20 inch Bass drum: amzn.to/2rC7otp , or 22 inch bass drum: amzn.to/354x67t
How has it help up after a year?
This shell is mahogany, right? Looks like poplar...
Where are they made in?
What heads are you running with?
James McDermott currently on this kit I just have the stick heads, but I’ll put Coated Ambassadors on it. I normally use Fiberskyn diplomats
These are the stock heads on the kit, besides the bass drum head which is a coated ambassador.
Can anyone tell me what the component at 25 seconds is used for? I bought the kit and can't figure it out. New to drums.
I think it is a bass drum raiser, so the beater hits the center of the head
Is there anything in the kit you are unhappy with? Would you recommend buying it?
troloslaw78 at times, the Hardware feels a little cheap. Floor Tom legs, and rack Tom mount. But that is standard for any drum set in this price range. Besides that, these are amazing drums. I’d highly recommend them! Link in the description 👍
@@ryanshawdrums5005 thanks for sharing your thoughts, good to know these things before you buy. Cheers👍
troloslaw78 you’re welcome! I should probably do one for my USA Custom soon as well 👍. Cheers!
troloslaw78 also, let me know if you end up getting one!
@@ryanshawdrums5005 will do
Thank you.
Excellent playing ,
What are the cymbals ? Size and Brand?
They're the Crescent Series by Sabian. Specifically the Jeff Hamilton "Hammertone" line. 14 inch hi-hats, 20 inch ride on the left, and 22 inch ride on the right. Here are links to them all on Sweetwater (best place I could find them online).
