Noah just helped me choose a Diplomat reso for my 18" bass drum. It's perfect for this kit! Thank you!

Best demo of this kit on the web.
Thanks! I have this kit and it's a joy to play. 30 degree edges plus wood hoops works. The snare is fantastic as well.

I have two of the Catalina Club kits, an older one and a current model. I'd really like to have one of these Special Editions. Is it really just the look that makes this one different or is there something more to it?

terrydrums the shells on this one are Maple/Walnut where the shells on the regular catalina kits are listed as mahogany (I would assume Lauan).

@@ChaseOfBass_ Yes, thank you. I got a reply from Steve over on his Reverb page, too. Very intriguing.

@@ChaseOfBass_ I have a Catalina Club that is mahogany, but not luan. I sealed the interiors with satin urethane and put on cast hoops. I've added to the kit and have 8, 10, 12 rack, 14 floor, and 18 by 14 bass - also a Mapex 13 rack turned into a floor Tom tuned very low. I use either a Ludwig Black Beauty or Gretsch Renown snare. I love the sound of this kit. I have seen the luan mahogany kits and they sound and look different than mine. Cymbals are all Bosphorous Antique Series.

@@johnweyers2685 what year is your kit? I have a 2010-2011-ish Copper sparkle, 2017 Catalina club with the 20 inch BD in Blue Satin flame. Gretsch seems very tightlipped and seems to insist that it is indeed 100% mahogany. Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me I love the brand and that line.

Just a wonderful kit , the sound is brilliant, as good as anything five times the price . The build is superb , probably the best bang for your buck available.

I have the Catalina model with the mahogany wood. Although it’s most likely Luan wood. But it doesn’t matter. It is top notch sounding. I’ve had it for a few years and I’m blown away by it. I can afford a more expensive drum set but I have no desire. It’s really that good.

The finish on this kit is gorgeous. And oh by the way Pop's you still got chops. I'm 66 now and I can still throw down. Keep doing what you do Mister Maxwell.

Greetings Steve! Enjoyed your playing as always and appreciate the videos. Man, you always do us right with your knowledge and advice. That kit’s sound and looks are incredible for the price. Beginning drummers have so much high-quality and reasonably-priced drum gear to choose from these days.....when I was young....just kidding! Take care and I wish you, Steve Jr and family all the best. ❤️☮️

Thanks! Many thanks to all of you who like the video. These really are very nice drums and such a bargain. I am 68 yrs old and I remember what we had available to us in the 1960s. I couldn’t afford the top line of the USA brands and any of the import drums were so terrible that I ended up just getting a basic Ludwig “club date” in blue/silver duco with just a 13 tom a 22 bass and an Acrolite snare. I was willing to forego a fancy finish and a floor tom just to be able to play a quality set. Now, the choices in all price ranges are significant, and quality is really good in most cases. By the way, a note about my “hair”, which is much longer than what people are used to seeing. Simple thing: We have to have some positive take-aways from all of this Covid mess. Lots of talk about people over 60 being more susceptible etc. So, when the “stay at home” mandate went down in mid-March, I started thinking that while I am not traveling, why not get myself in better shape. I don’t have health issues thankfully, but I was carrying too much weight. The fact that I wasn’t traveling made it easier to get into a better routine for eating and exercising. So, I’m now down 35 pounds, with about 15 to go to be where I want to be. Feels good. So, thanks to Covid I made this change. Now, for the hair..... I figured, a change in lifestyle is good, so why not let the hair grow too? After all, the barber shops were closed too. Anyhow, I have officially had my last haircut and the hair stays as is and we’ll see how long it gets. Have to take fun where you find it and enjoy life despite the many challenges we face.

Steve Maxwell Drums Hey Steve! Thank you for the info and congratulations on the weight loss. I’ve lost about 15 lbs but it was due to kidney stones and surgery back in late July and early August. I’m just not eating as much. I dig your long hair too because I’ve been letting mine grow for about 2 years and don’t plan on getting it cut anytime soon. Take care and have a great weekend.
