  • Learn about the role of video documentation as it relates to contemporary performance curation.
A discussion with Katie Watkins, Producing Artistic Director, Risk/Reward; Matthew Austin - Co-Director, MAYK and Mayfest; Martine Dennewald, Co-Artistic Director, Festival Trans Ameriques and Federico Iraz.
In partnership with artsUNITE, Videocan has created 3 short video essays/ webinars on the ways that video documentation could improve the future of the performing arts community in Canada.
Since 2019, Videocan has been researching and collecting video documentation of theatre, dance, and live art in order to lay the foundations of a national video archive of performance. Along the way, they have developed presentations for academic contexts to report their research, but have not had many opportunities to present to the broader artistic public.
Videocan is hosting the first of these general public-focused conversations in the form of a Webinar/Conversation/Research. The conversation will first cover the ways that other countries and arts communities archive performance through video. We’ll then discuss the unique situation found in Canada and the options that we have for making a national video archive of performance here.
