From the father of an Air Force sergeant who has done 2 tours, and an uncle of an Army specialist who was accidentally killed in a training mission in 2017, this song makes me cry every time. Bob nailed it, as he has done for 50 years.
❤🇺🇸💜Thinking of our veterans. This song sounds so good on my Harley Davidson Electra Glide sound system on a warm Sunny day riding off into the sunset. May the good Lord always watch over our veterans and their families. Sincerely from the very deepest part of my heart, Kevin W. Shelton, O1/08/2022. ❤🇺🇸💜🇺🇸❤🇺🇸💜🇺🇸❤🇺🇸💜🇺🇸❤
Every time I hear this song, I'm a teenager again lying on the beach listening to the never-ending waves tumble onto sand in Wildwood, NJ. Thank you for creating such a memorable music video. I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to all the soldiers and their families who sacrifice so much for us. America is forever in your debt.
Where is the human heart? I was so touched by this compilation of photos coupled with Bob Seger's (in my opinion) best song ever, and then I saw all of these loving comments. Where is the human heart? If we are so easily touched, how can we be killing one another? How is that possible?
I could watch this everyday, and I would know exactly were I stand. I love my freedom, and those who protect it - was Army, too. Love our troops, love our country, and Seger. Pray for our friends over there, it works! God Bless, and enjoy life's precious moments!
Thank you soldiers, for keeping us safe. Because of what you are doing, perhaps my young son will not have to fight the monsters one day. God bless you all.
this is a fitting tribute to all the men and women who have served this country,, Ex Marine Vietnam era, this song really brings back a flood of memories. God Bless all of you, and for the fallen.. RIP
One of his best songs! Spent two tours in Afghanistan and the images of what I witnessed and experienced are burned into my soul. Cannot hear this without reliving that. As a Southwest Asia combat veteran and retired military - this is a great photo montage tribute to our nation's military. God Bless America and the brave men and women who serve in our Armed Forces.
Im 28 yrs old n was raised up on Bob Seger n I know every song hes ever sung! Was happy to see this video, my man has been to iraq n i know what u mean.... awesome video honey! mad props! i posted a viedo myself of bob. look up Good for me. You and your man will love it! Hes saying ohhhh shes good for me! standing right beside me, not behind me.
I wanted to thank everyone for their kind comments. I remember this song from when i was a teenager, it was my favorite and even then it was a classic. I createed the compliation for my loving husband. He spent a year over there, and although he hated it, he'd still go back in a heartbeat to defend those that can't or won't defend themselves. He, like all the other men and women in service to our country, is a hero...
I dont know why but this song just melts my heart when i hear it and i cannot listen to it only once. I have to listen to it about 10 times everytime i listen to it. Crazy i know but i just love this song. I love the little guitar solo at the very end sound so great. Id give anything to watch Bob play this one live.
This song fits any occasion. It's light enough to keep you calm, yet hard enough to get you moving.... the lyrics and music of this masterpiece cover it all..... a MAGNIFICENT theme of life in general. Thanks, Bob.
@lexlieuthor miss this is one song that has touched the lives of many a soldier, from Vietnam to the present war in Iraq, and Afganistan, I am proud of this country and the men and women who serve. From a former Marine sniper in Vietnam, to an old cowboy in Wyo.. Thanks to you and thanks to all who have served.. Love this song,, and Segar for bringing it to all who share this song and the memories,, good and bad, and to dedicate it to the men and women who are serving this country now. Thanks
Who could not like this song and what our veterans and them serving do for our freedoms? Wake up, America-let's get it together! The return of our Veteran and all in his company one the most intense momements in my life...
I can't even say the joy and the gratitude I feel. Thank you Wife. (sorry for the way I said that). I am so thankful for our men and women over there and I melt when I think of it. Brothers and Sisters, Thank You So Much for taking care of us. I know, I love you. Thank you clark
This is absolutely wonderful what you have done with the lyrics to No Mans land suits life to a T. Who would have thought. Seger has been adapted to so many roads in do many lives, in so many different ways. Amazing how we all take Seger's words and add them to our lives such as you have done here. I wish I could tlak, meet all who love SEger. We sure would have so much in common. Glad your hubby is home safe. I bet he loved this video. I sure did. Hope you saw him on tour 06/07. Fantastic!
I love this song...was looking for a vid of this song and found this. It is awesome, thanks! America!!! I love it and I love the American Soldier....God bless ya!!!
This song is awesome! As a matter of fact, the whole Against The Wind album is!The lines "sanctuary never comes without some kind of risk-illusions without freedom never quite add up to bliss" really can jump out at you.
M coogle HATS OFF TO YOU SIR! As well as all you vietnam vets who served in that hell hole, including my father, may he RIP always! BUT I must say that our brave military deserves so much more than respect! And for what it's worth; you are all very brave heroes to me!
As a lifelong fan of Bob Seger, this is an awesome visual version you put together; I think it is award winning, and put's an entirely different perspective, not only for this song, but the way these words flow with your picture selection. Great Job!
@nychro7 I don't know if my other post made it. Just wanted to thank you and the the person that uploaded this song. I do remember the day I "Headed in " and when I "Headed Out" God what a feeling. Thank You.
It's probably due to a message they believe I'm trying to disseminate in to the world, but the surprise is on them! No message was meant. Just some photos of a time in our history set to an awesome song.
jimstull, this song is timeless, like Dire Straits' "Brothers In Arms." They are aptly applied to our present day situations, although it's true they were written in other times, for other reasons.
@lilwoodboy Sorry for your loss. For me Bob just do what he is the best at. For me as an European it is hard to think about war, but I understand you have some memories about that. I listen to Bob and Neil and other nice musicians to help me think about having a good time. They help me. I hope they help you too.
I must say the journey of this video 14 years later is amazing. I didn't post it to go viral and get famous, I enjoy earning what I've worked so hard for. 26 dislikes to 568 likes, that is truly amazing. You never know what you'll get in today's social media because it only takes one person to be cruel. I want to thank everyone for their great comments and just say UA-cam is weird. There were comments on here I never read previously because they just weren't there to see. And now, suddenly, today they are. This would be why many people got like's from me even from comments as far back as 14 years ago. I am saddened to know Alto Reed (aka Thomas Cartmell) is now gone and was touched that he took the time to comment on my video (see above) May he RIP. He could play a saxophone like nobody's business.
@Stadia2024 No, it is Bob´s best, really. No other song comes even near. I do not like the "Against the wind" album but this song stands out. Bob made his best songs working like this.
Great imagery with a great song. However, I scrolled through the comments and discovered that some had been removed. Are those the comments of the six people (as of May,21, 2011) that disliked this video? It is sad , that the troops in this video fight for the rights of incredibly ignorant people, to be able voice their opinion, like you and me, like it or not. I'm sorry, I just wanted to see what those six dumb ***** had to say My grandpa died to give them help give them that right.
To all who commented on this video andto Lexlie, God bless all of you,,, I is our destiny to become the ones who are not afraid to stand up for America. I salute each and every vet, and their family and loved ones.
@ozcobblepot218 I was spat upon because of Viet Nam, amazing what we do when the life we choose to save is ours and for what we are trained to do and what we have to do. Thank you to all in uniform whatever your Title, serve well and with pride, God Bless and protect you.

Insurgents are soldiers too, often fighting for their country occupied. I respect every soldier honestly deserving his country, regardless its nationality, even if I do not agree with his opinion of the world.
This song could be applied to Iraq, but has nothing to do with it. It was written well over 20 years before the war and its lyrics are existential really. Please look at the song from its time, not by throwing our time on a song that not even the most prophetic soul on Earth could have foretold.
Jim, you're right! Bob Seger Wrote the song for Me & 55,000 other brothers who were drafted or who were ER's volunteered for the war like myself in the sixties thru the seventies. Bob was Trying with song words ,like an artist to canvas, he was trying to draw an over all picture of the whole war that we were going thru in one short song. And yes at the same time it was a protest song directed towards the limp brain government that didn't give a shit bout humanity just more money for MacNamara, Pes. Johnson,Lady Byrd Johnson, Vice Pres. Nixon etc.....The song was originally named " Vietnam", When the gov'ment caught wind of it they contacted Bob telling him to scrap the song, that's when he came up with "No Man's Land", sounds the same. just like when Bobby Goldsboro came out in 1966 I believe, song called "Broomstick Cowboy", song was all over the nation's radios, Uncle Sam's Men in Black went around or put out an ultimatum to Bobby & all radio stations to stop playing that song or get find each time it was played or shut them down completely. I know Seger personally from back in 1979 on his Detroit Eagle Bus, got me out of a jam with pigs & got stoned afterwards. The kids who volunteered for Afgan-Iraq-Iran-Syria war adopted our song, that's why you see them in a video pic on youtube intro standing by their tanks. I'll Always be Greatful to Bob & I played The song 4 times Years ago At the Vietnam Wall along with "Lucky Man", by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer. Too old now, Agent Orange is hard to fight without a weapon at my age. What I'm sending is totally true Call him! I'm a Wolfhound Search & Destroy, 82nd Airborn Fort Bragg, NC. & CuChi, Tunnel City, Vietnam. Charley Daniels says " I'm Still in Siegon". Look it up. Bob got The Visions of The Lyrics from Nam Brother's own visual descriptions they went thru,I know the lyrics are true!!!! Hawk.
