    "We all have the same 24 hours but not the same amt of energy." Wow, this is what I have been trying to put my finger on. I have more energy first thing and as the day goes on, my energy decreases. But I seem to be tired a lot anyway and I get tired of hearing people talk about how we all have the same 24 hours in each day. We don't all have the same amt of energy so that explains it! :)

    This was such a good video, definitely some food for thought. 😊 I love that you're mindful of supporting a local business during this time, we also started getting frequent takeaway from a small local vegan cafe, and you can tell they're able to keep existing during this time because of their loyal customers who keep them in their thoughts and buy their products

    A few years ago, I worked from home and also homeschooled but my son was a very independent learner. Since i was short on time and had extra money at that time, he did most of the housework and laundry and even did ironing and earned money at the same time. He was a teenager and learning valuable life skills. My job was stressful and it was very helpful to me.

    HI Sarah, good video! I used to be a big multi tasker. Now that I am older I just can't do it anymore. I find myself more in the moment of what I am doing. And if I do try to multi task I just end up making a mess or hurting myself. So not worth it.

    This video has really given me some new ways to think about priorities and limits. In fact, I have been struggling with time and energy issues for my weekends. I am usingy best time and energy on someone else. I need to refocus and set limits to be my best self. Thanks!

    The old maxim still holds true: time = money, so it's crazy not to think about minimalism in that way too, where it servers both purposes of freeing up time (and money) by being mindful of priorities regarding spending/investing as well as imposing limits to those habits. Thanks for putting this together!

    Hi Sarah,
    You bring up a lot of good points! I shouldn’t be staying on social media in the morning, when I have more energy.
    I was actually listening to you while I had was making breakfast! A lot of my social media is in the background. I had to go back and listen to parts over again. So having social media on in the background isn’t always a good thing

    I started prioritizing “rest/siesta” as a scheduled item. I noticed also that letting my food digest after my biggest meal of the day is a good time for that lol. I used to just plow hard until I half dropped dead. So I’d overdo it and then finally crash too hard or for too long for awhile.

    Thank you so much for this video Sarah. I have never been a multitasker even as a mum or as a teacher! I just can’t do it. I am trying my hardest to get my students to understand they will get places only if they do things at a time.

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  4 роки тому

      That is certainly a tough concept for students to get!

    • @carpediem4091
      @carpediem4091 4 роки тому

      That might not even be the case though.
      Just because you aren't a multitasker doesn't mean everyone is like you or will learn the same way as you do. It also doesn't mean they won't go anywhere and I'm honestly disappointed by seing a teacher tell that to their students.
      Just to give you an example:
      I can't do just one thing most of the time. I usually need to have at least 2 things going on to actually be able to concentrate on something ( and no, I don't have ADHD).
      I usually use music that can vary from classical to heavy metal or I use audiobooks. There are days were I need more than 2 things going on, besides my main task, so that my mind doesn't "wander" around.
      Even at my job multitasking is of utmost importance.
      People are talking to you about their day, symptoms or something like that and I have to be running potential diagnosis in my head. Not being able to multitask would make me a lousy professional in my field.
      Doing 2 or 3 things at the same time didn't made me get "stuck" and "not going anywhere". It's actually one of the skills that has been highly valued everywhere I worked. Jeez..., even when I worked at a bakery as a teenager it helped me to complete every single task and not let any customer behind.
      I had always great grades; I speak 5 languages (3 at almost the same level as my own), I've concluded my university as the top student of my class and I did that while multitasking.
      Please value the skillset of your students. Don't make assumptions about them just because theirs are different than yours. If they develop their skills every single one of them might be essential in their future.

      @@carpediem4091 I did not mean to offend you or to sound as if I am a bad teacher but I can see how my response could have led you to react the way you did as I did not really give an explanation about what I exactly meant. At the school where I am teaching we have a lot of issues with mobile phones in the classroom, and as I am not allowed to physically take their mobile away from them, they become a huge problem. Nevertheless I allow my students to listen quietly to music only whilst doing written work as I am fully aware some students work better with music. But unfortunately they (phones!) do become a big nuisance. I do try to make my students understand there is a time to use their phone and I have given them examples of young adults who have lost their job because they were always on their mobile phone instead of working.

    Thank you so much for your content! I always enjoy and appreciate your analytic approach to these topics. :)
    The only thing I've heard you say a couple of times with which I can't agree is the "everyone has the same 24 hours in a day". I don't think that's true, as a higher financial limit allows you to increase your time limit by outsourcing housework or cooking, for instance. When you have to care for your home and your family, do the cleaning, the cooking, etc., you certainly don't have the same time resources (let alone energy resources) as a person with the help of a nanny, a cook, and a cleaner.
    If you disagree, I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion. :)

      Great point, Maria! I've never hired out for those things before, but that is a way for people with the means to do so to "hack" their schedule. I should be sure to bring this point up in the future when discussing this topic. I know the phrase is almost like a daily affirmation for me, and find it motivating for me with my work. It's been something that keeps me hopeful in darker times, since I have control in how I spend my days and can work extra hard to make them count.

    I really enjoyed this video and highly agree with the 5th point you mentioned! While I know life isn't static, I do feel as if slowing down is a concept that needs to be remembered so that we don't overwhelm ourselves with a million different things. Some phone calls can wait, emails or text messages don't have to be answered right away, and it can be a headache to be constantly keeping up with what other people are doing on social media.

    So true, I switch between multi tasking and single focus. I also adapt to priorities, I may have to pause to take a call or check emails while out with kids but have the freedom of not being in an office.... I also sometime leave phone on night mode or at home. For me, education and being debt free is a priority, I choose to pay extra on the mortgage and to pay for multiple music lessons and for education for my children. I make clothes, shop rarely, cook from scratch and have one good quality item of many things.... give time to the community through sporting clubs and lifesaving.

    Thanks Sarah. Prioritising time because we don't get time back & can't go back in time unfortunately. What I value..."Is it being reflected?" Brilliant question to ask myself. Peak energy to biggest energy need 💙. You reminded me of Stephen Covey, big rocks first & sharpen the saw, (to put the big rocks in your jar first then the pebbles then the gravel) & take the time to sharpen the saw to have it saw at its best.

    Can you do a video on minimalism during a time when people are starting their prepper pantries? I've heard so much about needing to be prepared for the upcoming post-election craziness that is expected to happen. Also, with the pandemic and entering winter, people are stocking up on extra food, toilet paper, etc. I like to try to live minimalistic, however I'm also stocking up on extra rice, beans, etc in case food is hard to find again. Just curious to know your opinion on the matter. Thank you!

    • @Channelbxyz
      @Channelbxyz 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Kailie, I'm going through a similar dilemma, I'm not yet 100% sure, but I'm leaning towards thinking about pantry and consumables in a different way when compared to hard goods (and my minimalistic approach to them), my pantry will be consumed at it's normal rate per day, so by stocking up I'm actually minimizing time and resources (and temptation) spent in the supermarket. That's the approach I've been taking throughout the pandemic, and it actually helped saving money and time, so will definitely incorporate as a longer term habit.

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  4 роки тому +1

      These are important issues you raised, Kailie! I already have my videos scheduled for the next few months, but I can share my answer here. I think having a few extra items on hand is not necessarily a problem, so do what makes you feel comfortable. From a pandemic perspective in the US, the extreme panic buying that took place was harmful to those who were less fortunate and overall, supply chains were not disrupted too much.
