Proud to be part of the test car crew!! Great progress and I love the clearance testing you did with the K-Line heavyweights. Reminds me when I was designing a big corner of my layout. But the flexibility you get from the tubular track really gives you a lot more options. Very cool!!
It’s a dangerous but important job that box car does! I’m glad I thought to check with those specific cars because otherwise there may have been an issue! And that would have been a bummer.
Make the power box a power station back drop maybe a subsation or run towers and fake cables coming from the panel box as a fake power station for a town near by, what a funny thought either paint or picture on the panel box I'm not sure but that would be neat
Coming along nicely Dave! As far as clearances are concerned my attitude's always been as long as they don't touch I don't worry how close the cars get. I've seen an old movie of a New York Central yard where the passenger trains were so close together it looked like you couldn't get a sheet of paper between the two! But hey, you do what makes you comfortable, it's your layout! Looking forward to the next installment!
Thanks! It’s not necessarily the distance between these cars that’s the issue, I want to hopefully avoid something I don’t have yet causing a clearance issue.
Excellent build Dave! It’s coming along very nicely. You’ve really got great ideas that you’re pondering with. In that open area, have you thought about having a working switcher yard? Adding some cool operating accessories like an operating milk car and platform, operating cattle car, operating horse car, operating barrel car, operating water tower, or what about an operating oil Derrick and oil field? The ideas are endless. An area like that could be fun to play around with a bunch of switches, and different accessories to play with too. Just another idea for you. Tom
3d print a false warehouse front for the electrical sub panel. Glue a door sized part of the warehouse to the door and make it so h panel is accessible
Very nice! The layout expansion is coming along quite swimmingly. You may find that if you put the O54's on either end of the curve and the O42's' in the middle, it may give you the clearance to run the longer cars without interference. That's how I do my curves, when I have to 'hybrid' them. Either way, I think that the expansion will be a great addition to the layout. An excellent video, as always.
Been away a few days up in the Poconos and also a side trip to Steamtown so I've missed a few of these layout expansion videos. Great job as always ! You're inspiring me to work more on my 4x8 and maybe make it a bit bigger as well. Thanks !
Good update, nice to see the thinking in the track design and despite the extra space that constrictions are still there in the choice of radius, it’s always a compromise
Great solution to a potential problem, Dave. Making the curve tighter makes the overall sight much safer and is actually, IMO, more appealing. Keep on movin'!
Nice to see all the progress you've made in such a short time, Dave. Judging from your ink , it looks like your a Jack Sparrow fan. Or maybe pirates in general.
I just got done watching your video I know you posted it maybe 4:15 hours ago but no it's pretty cool I just started my own new line on layout and I purchased a I purchased a 611 I do like your videos I love watching it I will when the money is right I want to buy one of your t-shirts
Looks like you are building a nice layout there. I wish that Manards quality was better. I actually prefer tubular track and I know a lot of it is available on the secondary market, still that source will not always be there and it would be nice to have a good source of new tubular track, Thanks for sharing.
Hello Dave how do you feel about soldering pieces together I've heard people doing it with the tubular track how much are you going to paint the background on the walls?
I 100% agree that for the price point of Menards track that you should expect some flaws. I am slowly working on a layout that's going to use Menards track on the lower level and have the same expectations! Progress looks great! 😃 👍
I can’t believe one would expect a product to be defective just because it cost less than another product. Would you buy a Toyota if it was to have features that were defective and accept it just because it is less expensive compared to a Honda? No I think not. Knowing something would be defective tells me to avoid it.
@@genemanno1533 well at a 1.25 a piece (in stores last time bought some) I can't complain. I've had no issues and have been very happy. I haven't had a defective piece yet but I expect it eventually. Also with all due respect I have had experience with Toyota and have had many problems and to top that, nothing is easy to work on if you do it yourself 😂 But back to the point, a Toyota is very expensive and model train track from Menards isn't. Especially in a time when a Coke cost over 2$, if I had problems with FasTrack at 7 dollars a piece I would have a problem but for track that is not made by Lionel I am very impressed. Also from what I've heard Menards is great for standing by their product and will replace any defective trains or track.
@@TrainBanditThen that is what I do, get it replaced by Menards. Definitely not accept it defective just because it was cheap. Toyota/Honda was just a means of making my point, glad you are satisfied with your costly Toyota. My opinion fast track is less than desirable.
@@genemanno1533 well then FasTrack is something we can agree on👍😂 Well it's not my Toyota but I've had a lot of experience working on it 😂 I personally like ram 😃👍
Your curves not looking right is due to the fact that menards measured the diameter from the center rail when lionel measured the diameter from the outside rail making the menards curves slightly wider i found this out while switching to menards curves on my layout
Everybody always says Menards stuff is ok because It was less money that really is bullshit if more people Sent there items back it would force them to do a Better Job. Just saying !!!!!!!!!!! “;-(“🚂
This is looking incredible Dave! I really feel your excitement about working on a new layout. Good stuff! 😎
Thanks so much. I was working on placing the bridge yesterday

Thanks Tom, all great ideas. I’m leaning more towards realistic city but who knows, maybe a combination of scale and postwar
I like your ideas and what you are doing! Have fun with it👍👍👍👍🔥💪❤️🙏🇺🇸

Always exciting to start laying track!! Looking forward to seeing your progress on the layout!
Thanks! Really wanted to start roadbed last night but felt like I was rushing
Looks like fun. Im currently installing standard gauge track for the first time. Now i have a massive can of worms to fix 😂
There is always a can of worms!

Thanks! I tried a bunch of different combinations and I think I’ve got it in a good spot now.
Ah the clash of the rail cars or the engine on curve. Now you have more FUN!
It’s always fun when you hear a strange noise or a train stops moving because it hit something! Lol
Great planning and executing Dave, this is a cool and interesting hobby.
Thanks. It sure is

Another great layout update Dave 👍👍 Love your passion & vision 😊😊 Thank for sharing 🚂🚂

Your layout expansion right here looks awesome and congrats on 6K subs!
Thanks a bunch!

Pirates was always my favorite ride at Disney, and the first movie is great.
Thanks Dave, looks to me your really enjoying your self! Good show! Happy Railroading
I definitely am!
Coming along good Dave.
Thanks
going to be an awesome layout
Thank you
Thanks for your evaluation of the Menards track. It is helpful. I am curious to see how you fasten the track on the foam. JH
I secure my track with silicone caulk. A smooth layer holds the road bed, and a glob under every fourth or fifth tie holds the track.
Nice layout so far
Thanks!
Nice!
Thanks!

Thanks! The Menards track is good enough. I’d rather Menards track that is new and clean than a big supply of old Lionel track that’s rusting
Great video:)🚂
Many thanks!
I like your fake turnout for a siding feature, cool idea. 😎👍
Thanks
Dave you're right on track looking good have you ever tried to use the Bernards switches
Thanks. I haven’t tried them yet
How do you secure your track on foam? Thanks for sharing your step by step build 😊
Track is held to road bed with a glob of silicone caulk under every few ties
Thanks for the video, Dave. How do you go about attaching the track to the foam for a permanent application?
I use globs of silicone caulk under every fourth or fifth tie to hold the track.
looks fantastic, is that menards track?
Thanks and yes it is
Hello Dave how do you feel about soldering pieces together I've heard people doing it with the tubular track how much are you going to paint the background on the walls?

Maybe!
