Berwyn toys and trains, love that place, most of my trains were purchased from them. I lived a half hour away from them. Thanks for posting the card!!❤
Glad to see your boat is floating. The STATE OF MAINE has been my favorite all my life, thats why I have 17 of them. I can never have enough of my favorite 😊 !!!
Very nice! A fine haul, for sure. The State Of Maine cars are cool. Nick has been promoting those trees for a while, now. They look pretty nice. I hear that JT's MegaSteam is good smoke fluid, but I've had good luck with MTH ProtoSmoke and it works quite well in my post-war steam engines. I said hi to you and Sean, while you were sitting by one of the food joints. I also had a nice conversation with Nick at the Trianz booth, mostly talking about different aspects of railroading, as I retired last year after a good career. Either way, a great haul and an excellent video, as always.
@@dagryffynhobby No problem at all. It’s a bit tiring, walking around all those halls, especially while looking for that one item that you need. I posted a couple of layout videos on my Chooch’s Trains channel. There were some excellent layouts there, for sure. It was certainly a fine three days.
Welcome to the State of Maine cars support group. I have my HO, N, O scale group of cars. They have excited me from the day I saw them as a kid. They always pop out in a group of Tuscan red 40 footers.
Blast it! I drove up Thursday, was at the show all day Friday, left at 11:15 on Saturday since I was all 'showed-out' and beat and what a shame, our paths never crossed! Maybe we passed each other in the dark when the lights went out on Friday? Maybe next time? Anyway I did pretty well, I wasn't really looking for anything but some good stuff found ME! I'll e-mail you some pictures if you like. I did have a good time meeting people though. I met Gary and Ryan from "The Trainboard," I was glad to see them and lucky me the feeling was mutual. Same with that nice young Mr. RJ from "RJ's TRains." And the guys from Hennings with Walt Matuch (RMT) thrown in and a few minutes with the Dakman! A good weekend all around.
You met some good guys, sorry we didn’t connect. It always Amazon’s me how many people I don’t end up seeing when there. I’d love to see what you picked up.
Nice meeting you too. I agree, there is almost too much to see. I should have just purchased the first engine I saw, it would have killed my budget but then I would have an amazing engine. It’s just hard to commit so early in a multi day show
I hope you had a great time at the York Fall Train Show, Dave. Looks like you did a nice job on finding collectibles for the layout. Your 'State Of Maine' decision seems ok, but don't up on 'Baby Ruth' cars. They're a big feature of your layout!
It's fun watching York videos, since I'll probably never get there myself. Looks like you got some neat stuff, and another project engine. I'm sure you can repair that smoking red engine, Alcos do smoke a lot in real life so...
Very nice :) Looks like you had a great weekend. I'll have to wait for the Syracuse in a week or so, think the 2nd & 3rd. But for me the Binghamton train show the 9th is where I will do the season beginning, Have to sell a load of logs first :) Guess I better get to the woods and get moving! ( Now I know where my son's 0-8-0 inspiration came from )
You have some great finds and even better deals. I made my own wooden ties out of old cedar fence boards for the Menards track. I made them to fit inside the metal ties so the ends wouldn't look hollow and painted my metal ties to match the wooden ties. I stain painted my ties with acrylics to look like weathered creosote. Maybe the ties could be used inside the metal ties on the ends where they can be seen. The Railsounds tender is an unbelievable good deal. The Railsounds boards alone are at least worth 100 bucks. That tender would pair with an 0 8 0 switcher nicely. Maybe the Pennsylvania shell would be a candidate for a swap. The Lionchief engine would make a good dummy if you pull the motors if it can't be saved. If you have a similar Lionchief engine to compare it with, you could use it to trouble shoot. I bought a similar dual motored engine that somebody messed up and tied the horn lead to one of the trucks. It ran erratically, and the electronic horn had static if activated while running. A buyers worst nightmare is buying an engine that's been fiddled with by somebody who doesn't have a clue what they are doing. That's a nice bridge. I'm looking for a 36" double track bridge myself. It's probably going to be a candidate for scratch building.
I’ll make ties at some point. I out some in place to hopefully inspire me. I have so much leftover wood from projects, I should have something that works. I have some old k-line engines in parts and I may try to repair the Jersey Central with those parts and a basic reversing unit. Or not, who knows! lol.
Great haul Dave...👍 Keep your eyes open for a State Of Maine boxcar that says POTATOES instead of Products. METCA came out with that car in 2020 ? Bangor and Aroostook was spelled out in big bold letters across the car. Potatoes was the original look in the '50s. And I've seen it on video at shows made by Weaver. If you spot two, save one for me. 😄
I've been on the lookout for the O Gauge "State of Maine" car with "Potatoes" spelled out on it myself! I've got a dozen of them in N Scale (I thought about modeling the New Haven's "Great Potato Wreck of 1937" but never got around to it!) but the O Gauge version's eluded me for years. You know what? One will probably find ME!
You guys are going to hate this, I remember a year ago or so I picked up a state of main car with potatoes on it, but placed it back down on the table! I could kick myself!
For the short ties, use them on track where you only see 1 edge of the track. Place the ties so the tip of the tie looks good on the side of the track you see. Since you can't see the other side, no one will know it's really short on the other (far) side.
Now you have to look for the Lionel 6-8665 Spirit of 76 Jerimiah O Brian engine and caboose to go with the boxcars. The Rail Sounds tender was a real bargain, I always get something at the LCCA booth, last time I was at the show I picked up four Polar Express Passenger cars.
When Goin To Train Shows You Will Be Challenged One Way Or Another when Some People Have a Limited Budget you Shop the Best you can And That Is the Truth.
The too-short ties would be Ok on higher-level trackage where only one end can be seen. Or as filler 'planks' for a highway crossing. Or, if you wanna get a bit quirky, lay the ties in an area close to the back of a station or a feed store or just heading around a blind corner...and tell people it was a failed attempt at a narrow-gauge line.
It was good seeing you at the show Dave! I told you, you find some great deals! $15 bucks for a railsounds tender is unbelievable! And a dollar a person is insane! What halls did you find all those deals in? - Ryan
Looks like you got alot of cool stuff awesome bud glad you had a Great time I'd like 2 go 1 of these years lol I'm up here in Wisc. So...Yeah I Love to get sum of those RMT cars they are realistic and awesome looking for the price anyways long message longer lol once again Loved your York Hual Video and can't wait to your next video cya later Bud
Thanks so much. If you can make it some time that would be worthwhile but I imagine that would be difficult from Wisconsin. The RMTs are nice and detailed for the price.
Hey Dave, Sorry again that we missed each other on Friday. Within the first hour on Friday I picked up for $85.00, a 1955-1958 Marx 333 smoker that I've been hunting for in very good running, smoking & pulling condition with matching fair condition New York Central die cast tender in the Silver hall. Looks like you also did well ! Those RMT box cars look awesome and I also have a fondness for those Maine box cars as well. I have the same Mark tin version you picked up. Check out my latest UA-cam video on my York Haul. At the tail end of the video I have some brief tips on restoring Marx Die Cast tenders using a Magic Marker & a few drops of Motor Oil that I learned from another UA-camr named Benjamin Jay or Benz Trains. Benz hasn't published any new videos on UA-cam in a long time but there are a lot of them up that just watching I learned a lot about basic maintenance, restoration & repair. His classic suggestion at the end of the videos that I always try to remember when attending train shows is "Don't overlook the junk!". Hope your able to restore that Jersey Central Lionchief 1540.
