  • I’ve been sleeping in my Honda CRV on road trips for the past few years, but my setup has historically been quite uncomfortable. To make future travels more enjoyable, I decided to build two units to create a comfortable bed for me (and a friend). The units are modular to allow for ultimate flexibility in how I’m able to use my CRV.
Hopefully this video provides helpful insight or ideas to apply to your own build! I’ve yet to test it out on an overnighter, but I’m sure that will be shared in videos to come.
    Enjoy!! 🚗🛌🌱🛠️🙌🏻

Oh please do not get rid of the CRV. The Gen 1 and 2 are becoming rare in good condition (your gen included) and we need people like you who love the car to cherish them and keep them running. Once you have this kitted out you will find the car so much more enjoyable and hopefully be using it more for vacations and camping holidays. The folding panels for the bed gear. You can make things a bit easier for yourself if you cut the lifting section in half again and add a second hinge that folds in the opposite direction. When you life the panel *up* ...the half closest to the front seats will hinge fold *downwards.* Making it a Bi-fold. That way you install the units and open the panel while they are *inside* the CRV. It also means that once the mattress is in place, you can simply roll the mattress backward, lift and fold the panel and tuck it under the rolled up mattress for storage. It also allows you access to underneath storage while the doors are closed. (Love the family boot rack in the garage)... Hope this helps. Rob.

I’ve still enjoyed having it since March, so I think I will keep it for the foreseeable future 😊 the bifold approach is a great idea! It has been a pain to have to half remove the unit to open it.

I like the IDEA of car camping... the reality... not so much. I've watched far too many van life videos of people getting 'the knock.' My feeling is that as this trend has grown in popularity over the years (Covid origins?) local towns have clamped down on their overnight parking ordinances. The prevalence of 'stealth camping' videos is kind of depressing. The idea that someone with a gun is going to wake you in your sleep if you're found out. I hope some positive soul can provide valid counterpoints to my negative observations. Have a blessed day.

I definitely get where you’re coming from! All of the car camping I’ve done so far has been at designated drive-in campsites (some via reservation, some via first come first serve). It’s nice to know I’m allowed to be where I am ☺️ I imagine it is much more challenging if you’re living out of your vehicle and you have to find a place to stay night after night

Hi there, nice CRV, they are an awesome car with great reliability. Sort after they are...
I own a Gen 3 and love it. We camp out of it... Like you we use designated camp grounds, caravan parks etc, so we feel safe. I also owned an 2006 Gen 2. That was a brilliant vehicle... Nice work. 🇦🇺😎
