      I used to do the same thing, every spring and summer I would scout around my house looking for little nests, knowing they would get bigger. After watching this channel, and learning more about how beneficial wasps can be, I only kill nests that are in high traffic areas (carport). There is a nest on the back side of the house that I've let grow all summer. It's a standard paper wasp nest, but it is about 3" in diameter now.

    We had a huge problem with yellow jackets in our home about 10 years ago we kept seeing yellow jackets in our bedroom and in our shower. After about a week of my husband trying to treat it when we saw them coming out of outlets in our bedroom we knew we needed professional help, Exterminating company came out and said we have to find the nest within 30 minutes found it it was under our vinyl siding under bathroom window it was huge they took the siding off and sprayed with their special solution and that next day big improvement!!! There were literally hundreds and hundreds of yellow jackets under that siding !!! That took care of our problems with the yellow jackets excellent company excellent!!

    • @MadTatted_Dad
      @MadTatted_Dad 3 роки тому +4

      My bee suit I use for work is a cotton canvas. Some guys also use a full body mesh netting suit. The mesh netting imo is more breathable than the cotton canvas but they can both get warm. I've never gotten stung. And depending on what you're doing, it doesn't require school but it does require training, a lot of studying and some times certification. Especially if you ever deal with applications, you may want to look into studying for an applicators license and the different classes for different states. Also depending on what bugs/bees you're dealing with, classes or studies in entomology would be very helpful

    Man, you are not only a professional, but you are also so doggone BRAVE! Even with a bee suit on, I would still be scared to death of getting stung. and would have to constantly remind myself that I'm wearing bee-proof protection. 'Cause I may not be allergic to bee stings, thank goodness, but getting stung by any kind of bee/wasp/hornet, etc., is no joke and is NOT fun at all. One summer I was rudely awoken by a dying bumblebee! I had been stung on my right index finger, where the finger tip is. Fortunately, I was brave enough to ice the sting first, to ease the pain. I then looked up what could help remove a stinger (or at least reduce the swelling). I had forgotten in the moment, the other part of the paste recipe (baking soda and water). That was when I found out that honey works as a second best, for helping to slowly pull a stinger out! And fortunately for me, I had a jar of honey, that I had picked up when someone dropped it (no one claimed it, and it was completely intact), that previous winter! I'm happy to say it worked and before I knew it, the swelling was decreasing in minutes.

    You really kept my interest as I watched this video. Even though it's a slightly longer video, I appreciated the way you explain things as you moved along. For example, the point you were making about burning nests. I have seen videos of people burning nests and yes you're right they don't really burn very well but, I wasn't really quite sure why that was. I had thought about water content but I didn't realize there would be enough water or moisture left in there to really stop the burning. You explained it as the larvae being mostly made of water and of course, that's going to slow down the burning just like trying to burn a campfire when it's raining out. The flame a run you might see a flame but, it's not really burning very efficiently and that's what's going on with those nest. Anyway, thanks again!
