  • MASSIVE Hornets Nest cut out of a tree with a chainsaw; The nest fed to my chickens and my SQUIRREL! The MASSIVE swarm is dealt with and vacuumed up for my client!
Species: Vespa crabro (aka European Hornet). "Hornets" (Vespa) are a type of "wasp" (Vespinae). European Hornets are the only established hornet species in the States. There are some controversial arguments that Vespa mandarinia (Asian Giant Hornets) are established in the States; which they are not. A couple colonies removed from a isolated area in the entire country does not constitute as "Established". European Hornets are STILL the only Hornet species in the States.

@@timp7796 you do realize that they are just as susceptible to dying in the wild by an attack, or in the cooler months when they’re lethargic. A single colony of a couple of hundred isn’t even remotely a grain of sand in an ocean in the possibly billions of the same species. It’s not like he came in doused the whole colony with gas and lit them on fire, he took them all back and fed them to his pets and the wildlife so a complete 360 circle of life. Also would you consider this animal abuse if your child or your spouse happened to walk by and get stung multiple times and being severely allergic and going in to anaphylaxis and dying? Thank you for stopping by.

Came across this video randomly in my feed. Over this summer I noticed giant European hornets were in Mass all over the place here in Northeast Oklahoma and after doing some research there was no claims that there were any in this area but I can attest to the fact that there is and they are in abundance. I even saw the queen one day come up near my home as she was looking for a place to build a nest. When I say looking at the size of that hornet was terrifying that's an understatement. I'm not kidding when I say she was as large as my entire finger. They seem to be attracted to the dark spots that are on oak trees. I drilled out one of these spots thinking it was sap but no sap came out and it was dry. After drilling out the hole they would no longer go back to that spot and they would go to another spot. I also took note that they would come towards the light if you went out after dark with a flashlight. I've watched them attack other insects including chewing the head off of a giant dragonfly down in the woods.

Mathematically, the hexagon is the regular polygon with maximum number of sides that can tassellate the plane (tassellate = fill all the plane with no overlaps). Having the maximum number of sides implies that it is the closest to a circle, and the circle is the shape that minimizes perimeter for a given area: *for the wasps, a smaller perimeter means less material to use for enclosing each given larva* (each larva has approximately a fixed cross section area).

They're also considered a quite useful species in Europe and are well protected so nests usually are just relocated and not destroyed.

A few weeks ago I saw one of those European Hornets in my garden going from flower to flower ramming Bumblebees from behind as they were gathering nectar , the hornet would hover for a second or two outside then give the bumblebee a bump, the bumblebees would back out of the flower for a moment turning around slightly to see what was bothering it then go back to work , then the Hornet would go to another flower and do the same thing, I thought that was odd and wondered why the hornet was doing this and continued watching, after doing this several more times it bumped one again, only this bumblebee was a lot smaller than the other ones it had bumped and when the smaller bumblebee reacted the same way as the larger ones backing out of the flower and turning a bit to see what was bothering it, The hornet swooped in quickly grabbing it and began to violently chew it up with it's mandibles , after a few seconds the Bumblebee stopped moving and the hornet flew to the top of a nearby Sunflower plant with the dead bumblebee and I could hear a crunching noise as it continued to rip it apart

Something similar here. My first experience with them was getting stung in the balls as a kid. Later, around the age of 8 or 9 I broke through the ground at a birthday party in a forest. It was something like a earth wasp nest. No need to say, the birthday was over.
I coped with it by doing honey. Working with bees was a complete horror at first, but today I can even let them fly in my vincinity and I do not have to jump up and run away.

Loved your video, watched the whole thing! Not sure I could have brought myself to dispose of the original queen; I almost would've felt obligated to quarantine her during initial extraction and then release her elsewhere in a park or something once the extraction job was done, almost as a sort of reverant nod to what massive empire she had built. Watching her squirm in her final death throes inside the vacuum bucket was very sad for me, if you think of how much she accomplished. Truly a remarkable queen in every sense. So I would've saved & released her. All the rest? Off with their heads! lol I very much enjoyed seeing the way you recycle the combs once you got home; that was awesome to see at least 3 distinct species/ pets benefit from your work. Kudos! This is a much-needed service to many and I hope you continue to be blessed by it as a viable business (almost makes me want to get involved launching one, only I would name mine "Rescue The Queen" to reflect that I'd never kill the founder, as opposed to releasing it elsewhere, so it can do it all over again, and, thus, keep my business regenerating, lol).
