    If you are into advanced delay settings and U2 sound I can recomend the "Providence Chrono" delay. It lets you dial in BPM OR Msec and has a control to directly select 1/2, 1/4, dotted 8 and more.

    another good tip to remember to get Edge's sound are the picks he uses. Herdim blue(heavy) picks played with the dimpled side to get those classic ringing chimes. But you're spot on with the dotted 8th notes. Cheers!

    very useful!! I am a beginning player so I can't make much music but I can make some cool sounds with the couple pedals I have added recently. I take lessons through a program at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs called Guitars for Vets and it is an awesome programs that gives vets such as myself a therapy program that helps me focus and get my brain working a bit better!! Guitars and music are helpful to me because its like you cant make any mistakes maybe I wanted it to sound that way and I can make my own "sound." Thanks to all those guitarists out there that post these awesome videos!!

    Have you listened to the end of streets live? after he plays the last note there is only 2 audible repeats. Same with most U2 songs. Since Edge doesn't use palm muting as much with delay as other guitarists do he needs to have less repeats to avoid the overflow of notes. Check the U2guitartutorials guy as well as various websites detailing The Edge's particular use of delay. With the exception of the Fly with the infinite delay bit Dotted 8ths don't work very well with more than 3 repeats.

    Hi Steve,
    Something I've been searching for and haven't found anywhere, is advice/demos on when and where to use various effects. That is, I'm playing a song and I want to add something to it, but I don't know if I should add distortion, harmony, reverb, a combination, etc. and where in the song to use the effects for best results. For someone new to effects that can be a challenge, and trial and error could literally take forever given all the different pedals available. Thanks!

    Another thing that Edge does he knows his delays timing against his own playing timing, no one else on this planet can playback with delays in almost perfect synch like he does. I have played for years and it took a few years to listen to the delay and not my guitar playing. If you listen to what you are playing you are already lost. Edge has big feedback delay repeats so he can hear and prepare his next attack usually you set this at 1 main reapeat at 100% then others less. Edge knows delays.

  • @alexanderson2907

    A very simplified version of exploring delay. No mention of actual milliseconds or timing. You act like there's only quarter notes or eighth notes and that's how it explains all the different rhythms and all of music. I mean if you're starting out in your first month of playing, I guess this would help, but anyone else in the pro field is laughing at this

  • @derekmok
    @derekmok 11 років тому

    That's completely backwards. Drummers never follow guitar players. Guitar players can set the initial tempo (though that's not what U2 does, as many others have pointed out, since Larry Mullen, Jr. uses preset click tracks), but after the initial tempo, the guitar has to follow the drums. The drummer is the timekeeper. Nothing sounds worse than if a guitar player is slowing down and speeding up and the drums try to follow. No -- if the drummer speeds up, everybody else has to.

    So are you saying that the click is a note followed by repeats? Good grief. The band plays to the drummer. Period. Larry is the anchor onstage. Why do you think when Edge played with Muse at Glastonbury they used U2's backing track for Streets? Because unless the Muse drummer used exactly the same click track that Larry does, Edge would have no possible way of keeping his delay in time, without modifying his delay bpms, which of course is possible but easier is just to use Larrys click

      A tip; A Boss ME-80 is only a fraction more, but you get these delay options plus a complete pedalboard, prorgrammability, usb interface and much more. If you are creative, that unit should last you a long time and save you money! I was looking at the dual tap, but ended at the ME-80 well pleased. - Great video BTW!

      Good delays are going to cost you. Visual Sound's closest competitors (Hungry Robot Moby Dick and T.C. Electronic's various dual- and triple-delays) are all over $200, too. It's not cheap, but it's an investment; can't think of anything more useful for ambient music or for solos in any genre. The BOSS Digital Delay might be less, though, and is still decent.

  • @islander769
    @islander769 11 років тому

    No. Edge times his delay bpm according to the tempo of the song. Larry is drumming to a click, not to The Edge's delay! Everyone follows Larry. Period. If The Edge's delay is a bit off, he won't be able to keep proper time with the band. He will set his delay accordingly, not the other way around. Listen to any IEM recording of U2 playing. They're playing to the click that Larry plays to.
