Desmond Dekker & The Aces - 007 (Official Music Video)

  • In the summer of 1967, Desmond Dekker & the Aces’ rude boy anthem, ‘007’ became one of the first Jamaican-produced recordings to breach the UK’s national Pop Singles charts; its unexpected international success prompting an urgent need for material to promote the 7” single.
Consequently, Graeme Goodall, MD of Doctor Bird Records, the company behind its British release, hastily secured the services of respected Jamaican director, Perry Henzell, who wasted little time in filming the group live on stage and in the streets of island’s capital before editing the resultant footage and rushing it to the UK, where on the evening on 3 August, it was aired it on the BBC’s hugely popular ‘Top Of The Pops’ TV show.
Notable for being one of the earliest promotional music films ever to be created in Jamaica specifically for a global audience, it now not only provides a truly fascinating glimpse of Desmond & the Aces in action, but also of Kingston street life back in the mid-Sixties.

Was in Jamaica in 1966 for the Commonwealth Games. This song was being played literally everywhere - you couldn’t avoid it. Great times! Got home and the UK were just being introduced to it and the kids here went crazy for it too. A great Summer!! Great memories

I went to Barbados in November 1966 with my mother and aunt to see my grandmother. I was 8 years old at the time. On the way to Barbados, we stopped off at Kingston and I can clearly remember hearing this tune booming out as our ship docked at Kingston harbour, as people were mashing up the floor dancing ! Brilliant tune and great memories !

This rocksteady masterwork just takes it's sweet time telling its very important story of rude boys and their downfall and keeps me at the edge of my seat all the way through. I heard this years after "Israelites" and figured out in short order that Desmond Dekker's success was no accident; that he was an absolute master of his genre. And I'm still learning from him to this day.

Love this song . Desmond Decker & the Aces Forever ! Rocksteady began by local musicians on the Island passing around almost impossible to get American rock & roll vinyl records that would get SCRATCHED up by so much use . Playing along with a scratched beat evolved into a " one drop " guitar rhythm , to " rock steady " to Ska to Reggae . Apparently , Decker was also the man who got Bob Marley his first record deal . God Bless Desmond Decker . R.I.P

I well both of us,my deceased husband, & we went all over Spanish town ,actually stayed there where Aston's grandfather was bed ridden but this handsome elderly man had a 🐝 beehives business & he would amaze me of how much foreseen spiritual humble & the warm hearted attachment of holy spirits attached to him. For instance one I saw a man in an orange shirt pacing his balcony & mentioned it to Aston. He immediately woke up his bedridden Grandfather, which the Spanish town tribe & the neborhood all admired & highly respected often refers to him as "Uncle Stan, he looked at me & Aston,& said his family are happy & Joyous to have a beautiful Indian woman walking thru the home & land. There's so much to relate to this trip,I was flabbergasted..True & intense journey. All in all,I didn't want to leave ,but Aston was pretty anxious. Also he named Aston (Del) probably a hindu name. I'm amazed I'm getting deeper with mentioning a part of my life, brakes up Chosen Angel 😇 😊❤❤🎉

In the middle of street scenes full of interest & color. The sparseness & sort of randomness of the overall movements keep something of the Ska feel, for me. Just a gem.
