The lines on this knife were aesthetically pleasing to me and I ended up getting the G10/D2 model to try it out. I loved it so much I upgraded to this version because I'm a micarta junkie. It looks very unassuming and I carry it daily at the office. No one raises an eyebrow when they see it. I think the brown micarta looks close enough to wood to have that calming effect on non-knife people. So if anyone is looking for a great office knife this thing is damn near perfect!
I’ve been waiting for this review for a while. I picked up the titanium version after Slicey Dicey did his review. It’s become my second most carried knife.
I want this knife but I settled with the cheaper version... This model feels a tad too expensive but the D2 model I bought with g10 for $30 shipped feels like I stole it. My D2 version cuts like a laser and I saved $70ish dollars and only gave up a tiny bit in edge retention. I can't recommend the cheaper version enough!
I have this in Carbon Fiber and S35VN and it's just about the best thing I can legally EDC here in the UK. It's worth mentioning that the clip is properly countersunk into the scale and there are no protruding screw heads, is super deep carry, and is narrow enough to look like a pen. It also weighs basically nothing.
When they first came out at Blade HQ they had the carbon fiber/N690 for less than $60. Great knife at that price. It is one of my three most carried slip joints. (Copper proper and QSP Falcon)
Great review Nick - agree with all the points you make. This is the only version of the Luna that I have, and I see it as something of an extravagance at the price. I like its lightness (46g) which puts it into backpacking territory for me, and I find the design pleasing - even the pocket clip and I usually hate pocket clips. It takes a screw-on thumb stud very well just at the back of the groove, and the colour/texture of the micarta improves with use. Would I buy it again? No. Am I pleased I bought it? Yes.
@@fredp1983 The thumb stud is an aid to one-handed opening, not an aid to flicking, so you can open it in one continuous movement by keeping thumb pressure on the stud, but you can't flick it out under its own blade weight in the way some people like to. Bear in mind this is a slipjoint, not a free pivot mechanism.
Add a kwikstud and it opens onehanded wonderfully. Even better would be a hinderer style thumb disc, which it *really* looks like that fuller is just perfectly designed for.
@@deanwaller8283does it flick open fully? I’m wondering cuz if the half stop… or is the thumb stuff meant for easier opening to be able to pull it open easier??
@@fredp1983 you have to maintain thumb contact, so it's not going to flick open like an assisted opener or even like a benchmade griptillian, but you can deploy it fully with the thumb, the half stop doesn't stop you doing that.
