Today we're rolling out the Pantone 369 carpet for Type O Negative's debut album, Slow, Deep and Hard, released this week in 1991. The 30th anniversary reissue of the record is being released on Run Out Groove, and is available for preorder on the link above.
Type O Negative are undeniably one of the most important flagship acts for Roadrunner Records, through the strength of delivering the label's first Gold record, Bloody Kisses - or by simply being one of the most interesting bands to come out of such an interesting era for music.
I'm eternally grateful to Kenny and Johnny for taking the time to celebrate Slow, Deep and Hard, and talk about the record label that pushed them over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Absolutely Christine! Johnny & Kenny are such cool & down to earth genuine guys hands down. I’m 46yrs old now & the first song i heard by Type O was on the “Nativity In Black” Black Sabbath covers album by many metal musicians & Type O covered the “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” which suited Type O to a tea because it was such a slow dirgy song & with Peter Steele’s deep baritone voice it was such an amazingly done cover & so dark & haunting 🤘

Fantastic interview! It's great hearing an interviewer who actually did his research beforehand and asked that simple, magical question so often: "Tell me more."

No wonder they were completely overlooked and underrated. The music and poetry of this band is so beautiful. They were not presented right by their own representative,I feel like if they would have sold them better, they would have been even bigger.

    • @Dead_Again1313

I'm actually glad they did it the way they did. The more underground rock/metal scene has more heart and soul to it. If they ended up doing the Metallica thing, it would kind of ruin it for me, because that's not them.
      These are simply my opinions.

They had two platinum records. They did pretty good considering they didn't at all fit in with the times. They got as big as they possibly could have. If anything, Peter didn't stick with what made them famous after October Rust.

Thanks Type O Negative. Back in 2001 my son committed suicide. Instead of turning into a garbage head doing lots of drugs and booze. I was able to grieve through your music. Everything Dies, Everyone I Love is Dead etc. I also loved the guitar tone. Overdriven and loud to where if take your hand off the strings it's going to feedback. I needed that kind of energy to balance the intensity inside me. I was proud of myself for not just doing the substance abuse route. I appreciate your humor. Then and now. Peter, died on my birthday. April is suppose to be a new start with mother nature. April showers bring May flowers. With his passing, it feels more like a golden shower brings thorns. Hope I don't sound like a prick. I had thought C.T. could/would replace the Green Man vocally. I know an Aussie had asked him to do vocals on a tribute album. The TON people know who I'm referencing. Stay negative brothers. Dont grow up. Like an overdose of Colon Blow. Your shit affected the world more than many understand. Be cool Klaus. That's not a German Wacken festival comment. Goot in Himel

Horrendous about your son, man.. nothing like someone you love doing away with themselves and rejecting the world. I know that well, it changes everything you thought about life for a while, always a scar that never heals... it's just there, to remind you how f... the world can be from time to time.
Big condolences, keep safely in your heart😔

They were supposed to play a place in Jax fl called Spike’s Doghouse but they had to cancel because the ceiling above the foot-tall stage was so low Peter wouldn’t have fit. Like at all. Lol. It was like 94. Maybe 95. I was so disappointed because the place was tiny and I was Type O OBSESSED.
But then…. I got to see them open for Crüe. They played like 3 songs in 40 minutes and we left as soon as they were done. It was still light out. lol
