I was always a huge fan of Peter Steele. I first got in to Carnivore in about 89. Songs like God Is Dead, Male Supremacy and Predator immediately hooked me in. The chorus to God Is Dead still haunts my dreams, one of the greatest choruses ever in my opinion. Anyway, the somber refrain in Male Supremacy foreshadowed what Peter was to become. I felt it even back then, he needed to explore that side of his voice. It was such a deep, resonant and emotive sound. Type O capitalized on that more so with Bloody Kisses on. Slow, Deep and Hard still had Carnivore DNA so the more gothic sound didn’t really manifest yet. His scathing dark humor was still there, that was always a huge appeal to me. I love all the Type O albums more than words can describe. World Coming Down is really hard to listen to. It is so intertwined with my emotional experience that I seem to re-experience the shitty feelings I was having at the time when this album was essentially the soundtrack to my life. It’s the kind of memory recall one has when they encounter a smell that transports them in time. It’s really powerful how music can do that, encapsulate moments of time in such a rich depth of emotional memory. This is a primary reason I stopped listening to music at traumatic or turbulent times in my life, some of my favorite albums are ruined because of that memory attachment. Musically, Peter was genius level songwriter in my opinion. Up there with the greatest songwriters on earth in any genre. He left a huge hole in our musical world, he created a unique musical language which is something only a few artist accomplish in my opinion.
I think you guys should give Dead Again another chance since it's back on streaming. The more I listen to it, the more it becomes one of my favorites. Definitely more focused and inspired than Life is Killing Me. It's almost like a subtle farewell from Peter.

Type O Negative!!! one of my all time faves. And not alot of quality content on them I find. Every album is unique but the one that had the most impact on me was World Coming Down. Peter's an awesome thinker and very hilarious sense of dark yet highly intelligent satirical humor. Meta Irony. I love the Alexander Dumas quote on back cover of Life Is Killing Me; "If God were condemned to live the life he made for man, he'd kill himself." 🤣 Peter had epic taste. And honestly it takes a genuinely open person who can tolerate things in songs that maybe the purist metalheads do not enjoy in their music but it pays off in Type O creating such rad contrasts. A blacklight doom goth atmosphere. Also the "slow heaving slave ship" parts in Type O songs are heavier than Crowbar on elephants. Remember, "If you don't kill me, I'm gonna have to kill you." 🤣 "I've got an Angry Inch!" 🤘really like this channel glad i found it! 🙏
My ranking: 1. October Rust 2. Bloody Kisses 3. World Coming Down 4. Dead Again 5. The Origin of the Feces 6. Slow, Deep, and Hard 7. Life is Killing Me
They were just as good live as they were in the recordings!! All greats and World Coming Down is my favorite. When that album came out, the consensus in our community was that it wasn't as good as previous albums, but to each his own.
There will never be another band like the drab four. My list (though I think they’re one of the few bands where every album is a masterpiece) 1. Dead Again 2. World Coming Down 3. Bloody Kisses 4. October Rust 5. Life Is Killing Me 6. Slow deep and hard 7. Origin of the feces
Im waiting for october rust album too arrive off Amazon such a killer album love type o negative no other band has ever and will ever be able too capture the aura and sound of type o negative.

october rust number 1 for me by a mile. world coming down i just never got into, nothing about it catches me at all. interesting you guys having it at number 1.
(In order of Least least worst to least worst) 7. Dead Again 6. World Coming Down 5. October Rust 4. Slow Deep & Hard 3. Bloody Kisses 2. Origin of the Feces 1. Life Is Killing Me Edit - there's no such thing as a 'bad' TypeΘ album. They're all great, & which one is my 'favorite' depends entirely on what mood I'm in & which way the wind is blowing on any given day!
the ffect you guys are talking about is a reverse reverb btw. you flip the sound backwards, add reverb to it, then flip it around again so the reverb tail is now leading into the sound rather than trailing off after it.
Really great review of this discography. It's funny how everyone has different rankings. Haven't listened to them in a while, need to change that. After I saw shredlords Motörhead shirt, please make an Motörhead ranking
Super late to seeing this video but what the hell I'll leave the comment anyways. The Hey Joe done by Jimi is actually a cover. The song was initially recorded in 1950. Of course, just like he did with Watchtower, Hendrix did a version of it that was so much better that people have mostly forgotten that it's not original
Definitely in the minority here, and I've always been into the heavier stuff from any band. I have Bloody Kisses as my number one, but October Rust is terribly underrated. Every album with the possible exception of World Coming Down gets a lot more credit. I think October Rust is easily their second best, and it's close to being tied for number one. It's a masterpiece. Woe mistletoe.
My introduction was Wolf Moon and Red Water which are still my favorite Type O Songs. The band has always been one of my favorites but somehow there is only one album I can listen to from start to finish which is Slow Deep and Hard. For the other albums, especially on Bloody Kisses there are too many moments I find either too cheesy of somehow misplaced (the hardcore moments on Bloody Kisses imao).
My list is short. I've always loved Origen Of The Feces. 1. Origen Of The Feces 2. Slow, Deep And Hard (but it's the same album) 3. Carnivore's self-titled debut 4. Bloody Kisses And that's where my affair with Type O ends.
@@metalheadindian9174 Dude you just absolutely annihilated that man. Please consider others' struggles and different situations in life. That was some seriously damaging stuff that you just told to another human being.
I feel I should start asking when you'll do a Devin Townsend (All acts) ranking. In fact I shall - When will you do a Devin Townsend (all acts ranking)? I am prepared to threaten you all with Marmite.
Necrotic Nick- Personally, I'd like to start with Strapping Young Lad and then do his other projects separately. SYL was on one of our polls early on but no one really voted for it. I may have to resurrect that one as an option.
Necrotic Nick- I'm probably the biggest shirt collector of the bunch and I definitely have a lot. I might actually do a video on that sometime in the future.
Necrotic Nick- Eventually we’re going to do a choose between two albums response video. We’ve got a lot of other stuff on the list though, but we definitely plan on doing that.

@@thrallsofmetal ah okay, maybe because i mentioned some carnivore titles? Thanks for responding, that really got me confused. Over all i just said that i Was very much into carnivore, loved slow deep and hard (i got a pick axe in the trunk of my car.. 😉) and was very disapointed by everything after that, what for me just felt like fooling some sad goth girls who would just cry if they would know about... lets just say, certain carnivore Songs. You know which ones i mean😉 Anyway... great Video entertaining channel and, nyhc isnt that bad. I mean cro mags gorilla biscuits yuppicide burn bold judge murphys law sick of it all. Not this later metalcore crap 😉 Just saying. Cheers
6) October Rust: An all around favorite but I think this is without any doubt my least favorite album from the catalogue. Ok, there are still excellent pop songs like My Girlfriend's Girlfriend or Burnt Flowers Fallen. Also some great darker tunes like Red Water and In Praise Of Bacchus (my favorite). On the other hand this is filled with cringe as fuck goth cliches. Be My Druidess, Die With Me, The Green Man, Love You To Death? Come on! Where's the tongue in cheek dark humor of other records? The doom aura? This packed with lovy dovy tunes painted black. Sorry but I think this is overrated as hell and full of corny pseudo goth stuff one expect to find on a Him record but never when the drab four are involved. 5) Dead Again: Cool yet featuring some kinda meh songs here and there. The title track, Profit Of Doom, Tripping A Blind Man or Some Stupid Tomorrow are absolutely great tunes re-ashing once again some Hard Core early influences here and there. It's a pity it was meant to be their last album since they still seem a band that have tons of geniality to offer us. Although premature this is a great way to say goodbye. 4) Slow Deep And Hard: This is one of the most outrageous, funny yet brooding and ingenious records ever made. I'll include here the Origin Of The Feces versions here too (amazing idea.. what a belly full of laughter). Making an album out of a fantasy of killing a cheating ex girlfriend and making it sound funny is some achievement. I Know You're Fucking Someone Else, Prelude To Agony, Gravity (it's a pity Are You Afraid didn't made it to the first album), Glass walls Of Limbo: simply put classic stuff (and the Sabbath and Hendrix covers on TOOTF are superb too). 3) World Coming Down: Arguably the doomiest and darkest album from the pack this thing starts with one of the band's most dire and astonishing songs ever: the cleverly named White Slavery. And Everyone I Love Is Dead keeps the bleakness and quality standard on a stupid high level. The title track is also great and there's still room to some cool less dramatic stuff like Pyretta Blaze, All Hollows Eve or The Beatles medley. Amazing return to form. 2) Life Is Killing Me: Now this is probably the band's more all over the place record. From the get go the punk/ core provocative tunes back in tracks like I Don't Wanna Be Me, I Like Goils or Angry Inch's cover. There's also the title track (my favorite), Nettie, A Dish Better Served Coldly, Anesthesia or The Dream is Dead, tracks that appear to be somewhat melodic with this superficial mellow and thin sugar coat but on the interior reveal themselves to be bitter and dark as hell. The remainder of the record is a bit lighter, dwelling on some sort of mixture between The Beatles and Sabbath the band perfected throughout the years. And although I'm not too much into these songs the other ones are so masterfully crafted that I have to put Life Is Killing Me really high on my rank. 1) Bloody Kisses: My first contact with the band back in 1993 and man... Forget about Cold Lake, Gothic and all that stuff. Not in the perspective that Bloody Kisses is better or worst but this was finally the perfect mix between goth and doom metal with psychedelic undertones. Christian Woman (masterpiece) , the title track, Blood And Fire, Too Late - Frozen... all killer tunes! And the boys still retained some of their roots (I would soon discover) in controversial hardcore manifestos like Kill All The White People or the superb We Hate Everyone. So although I respect everyone's opinion I can't really see how I could put this album in any other rank because if it's true that almost every TON record is great there's nothing that really compares to Bloody Kisses.
October rust is awsome except the sound treatment of the drums which is ..a lil' strange ,nearly sloppy especialy cymbals sounds like drum machine ..it's a shame because it's for me a masterpiece in term of composition arraangments peter's voice well number 1 without a doubt ...
Not to get all technical, but I think Rin's age has something to do quasars, metaphysics, relativity, radioactivity, the wave/particle nature of light, the collapsing of spatial planes, time loops & current 23.
Best to worst, for me (although I loved them all, except for Dead Again): 1. Slow, Deep and Hard 2. World Coming Down 3. Bloody Kisses (not the digipak) 4. October Rust 5. Life is Killing Me 6. The Origin of the Feces 7. Dead Again
1- Bloody Kisses 2- October Rust 3- Slow Hard and Deep 4- World Coming Down 5- Life is Killing me 6- Dead Again This is because BD is a solid album, best singles, best songs all around and this is before the drugs and Type O were at their peak. October Rust is an amazing follow up, again great songs and some more solid singles and the band was still at its peak. Slow Hard and Deep was my third choice because it has unsuccessfully coping and gravity, which are very memorable. WCD has like 5 good songs and the rest are filler, Life is killing me sounds very commercial and was when the band where really struggling with their addictions. Dead Again sounded too preachy and was a departure from their catchy tunes and to me sounded all over the place, like ramblings.
Nothing beats October Rust for me, but they’re whole catalogue is probably the most important metal discography to me out of any metal band. -Brandon
October Rust is the pinnacle for me.

6) Dead Again
7) Life Is Killing Me
I got into the band around 2000-2001, and Bloody Kisses has always been my favorite.
NOTHING can touch BK-NOTHING.
"My definition of a hypocrite is the person I see in the mirror, who doesn't like me and I don't like in return."
-Peter
In January 1992 I got to see Biohazard and Type O open for Overkill…it was a great time to be an 18 year old metal head
Even before the video starts, I'm putting it out here right now that I have no favorite from these guys. I LOVE EVERYTHING THEY EVER DID! First ever tattoo and always a part of me
lmao, the look on Jon's face @13:50 is priceless, u can tell he is totally not impressed with the re-telling of Shredlord mooning him on the stairway!!! He looks seriously traumatized still, poor guy! Hope you recover someday from that image Jon, thoughts and prayers!
Necrotic Nick- There might be some legit PTSD to that whole (or hole 😂) experience for him.
@@thrallsofmetal oh man its just too much! lol, the burden he now bears is tremendous!
Dude....There aren't words for what was witnessed. As much as I try to forget it, Nick loves to bring it up. This is now the second time that it's been mentioned on camera. For your sake, I hope you never see a walrus' small intestine. When the cave door was opened, I saw where he parked the Batmobile.
@@jamminjon8074 oh my Belial and savior Satan! I feel for you man! that sounds very scarring indeed. Hopefully there is enough alcohol and drugs of your choice to erase that image! Get well soon! Prost!
Thoughts & Prayers lol
Remember, "If you don't kill me, I'm gonna have to kill you." 🤣 "I've got an Angry Inch!"
🤘really like this channel glad i found it! 🙏
I am a Type O Negative fan. I was born in 1959.
I'd love you to rank Bathory or Venom
Great segment thanks!
Now I've gotta listen to some Type O, thanks guys! Also, October Rust is hands down my favorite followed by World Coming Down.
My ranking:
1. October Rust
2. Bloody Kisses
3. World Coming Down
4. Dead Again
5. The Origin of the Feces
6. Slow, Deep, and Hard
7. Life is Killing Me
They were just as good live as they were in the recordings!! All greats and World Coming Down is my favorite. When that album came out, the consensus in our community was that it wasn't as good as previous albums, but to each his own.
Saw TON open for White Zombie/Pantera. That was insanely killer.
October rust is definitely my #1. Haunted is possibly my favourite ever Type O song, it’s just an epic track!
There will never be another band like the drab four.
My list (though I think they’re one of the few bands where every album is a masterpiece)
1. Dead Again
2. World Coming Down
3. Bloody Kisses
4. October Rust
5. Life Is Killing Me
6. Slow deep and hard
7. Origin of the feces
Im waiting for october rust album too arrive off Amazon such a killer album love type o negative no other band has ever and will ever be able too capture the aura and sound of type o negative.
Necrotic Nick- That would be a tall order. They were very distinct band even amongst all the goth/ doom bands out there.
@@thrallsofmetal just finished watchin this whole ranking of type o albums and enjoyed every minute of it.Never really gave world coming down album much of a listen but definitely going too now and let myself get lost in it,great job as always fellas keep it up.Ministry album ranking would be a goodie.
world coming down got a special place for me personally that shit is so deep nd personal
october rust number 1 for me by a mile. world coming down i just never got into, nothing about it catches me at all. interesting you guys having it at number 1.
(In order of Least least worst to least worst)
7. Dead Again
6. World Coming Down
5. October Rust
4. Slow Deep & Hard
3. Bloody Kisses
2. Origin of the Feces
1. Life Is Killing Me
Edit - there's no such thing as a 'bad' TypeΘ album. They're all great, & which one is my 'favorite' depends entirely on what mood I'm in & which way the wind is blowing on any given day!
Always enjoy you guys’ videos. Kee up the Good work, fellas
Miller is the man. Origin is also my #1.
I’m happy to see Dead Again get the love it deserves 👍👍
None of thee mentioned the song 'Haunted'...! Great vid guys \m/
They left out A LOT OF STUFF 😔
the ffect you guys are talking about is a reverse reverb btw. you flip the sound backwards, add reverb to it, then flip it around again so the reverb tail is now leading into the sound rather than trailing off after it.
You re such good buddies i would like to teleport myself from italy and hang out with you guys one night and have beers while listening type o🤘🍺
Pleasantly surprised World Coming Down got a couple of #1s, it's mine too
Really great review of this discography. It's funny how everyone has different rankings. Haven't listened to them in a while, need to change that. After I saw shredlords Motörhead shirt, please make an Motörhead ranking
Necrotic Nick- I'd be down for a Motorhead ranking. That's going to be a long video but it'd be fun.
World coming down is my favorite followed by Dead again =)
Love this
Obituary, Pestilence, & Suffocation would be cool to see you guys do a ranking for
Necrotic Nick- Actually we're doing Suffocation after we're don with Testament.
Sweet! Looking forward to that
Bloody Kisses is my favorite.
NO BETTER album ever existed, my man!!
My list is short. I've always loved Origen Of The Feces.
1. Origen Of The Feces
2. Slow, Deep And Hard (but it's the same album)
3. Carnivore's self-titled debut
4. Bloody Kisses
And that's where my affair with Type O ends.
You like it because you are faeces.
(Please don't take it seriously.I am just joking)
@@metalheadindian9174 Dude you just absolutely annihilated that man. Please consider others' struggles and different situations in life. That was some seriously damaging stuff that you just told to another human being.
The perfect band for halloween 🎃🎃
Perfect band for EVERY DAY 💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤
Great Type O ranking video. Any chance of maybe a Suffocation or Broken Hope album rankings?
Necrotic Nick- Actually we’re doing Suffocation after we’re done with Testament.
Thank goodness I didn't have to eat a spoonful of Marmite...
@@jamminjon8074 - I'll fly over and deliver it personally....
I would like to see a Ministry albums ranked
Necrotic Nick- I certainly wouldn't mind doing that ranking at all.
Yes definitely love too see that ranking
The immortal Type O.
Rin really looks like 23, the rest look like 25 tops
You guys need to do a shirts collection vid!
Necrotic Nick- I'm probably the biggest shirt collector of the bunch and I definitely have a lot. I might actually do a video on that sometime in the future.
@@thrallsofmetal can’t wait to see it!
I too have quite the arsenal of shirts. I'll have to film it at home, because I don't think I can fit them all in the car in one trip.
Great video, are you guys gonna do a pick an album video
Necrotic Nick- Eventually we’re going to do a choose between two albums response video. We’ve got a lot of other stuff on the list though, but we definitely plan on doing that.
@@thrallsofmetal great, got some ideas already
RIP The Green Man 💚
Could never get into these guys. Always thought they sounded like The Cure and Danzig had a baby. Funny thing is I love both of those bands.
TON are SO MUCH BETTER than those 2 bands....SO much fucking better.
where are you guys from? these videos are great!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! We're from the Toledo, Ohio area.
WHATS THW SONG IN THE INTRO
Deleted comment...? I didnt see any
offense, but okay
I still enjoy your work, but this feels strange, i keep watching though
Edit: i am with miller on almost every point👍
Necrotic Nick- I know I haven't deleted any comments outside of the bot ones so I have no idea what happened there.
You know which ones i mean😉
Anyway... great Video entertaining channel and, nyhc isnt that bad. I mean cro mags gorilla biscuits yuppicide burn bold judge murphys law sick of it all. Not this later metalcore crap 😉 Just saying. Cheers

UA-cam censors me all the time. Your comment is probably in spam
You totally can't tell who the contrarian dork of the group is....
When I referred to Cold lake I meant Into The Pandemonium (of course).
October rust is awsome except the sound treatment of the drums which is ..a lil' strange ,nearly sloppy especialy cymbals sounds like drum machine ..it's a shame because it's for me a masterpiece in term of composition arraangments peter's voice well number 1 without a doubt ...
how is Ren 23? he looks 45. drugs took a toll on him I guess :))
Necrotic Nick- It's the lighting. It not conducive to him being 23.
Not to get all technical, but I think Rin's age has something to do quasars, metaphysics, relativity, radioactivity, the wave/particle nature of light, the collapsing of spatial planes, time loops & current 23.
Best to worst, for me (although I loved them all, except for Dead Again):
1. Slow, Deep and Hard
2. World Coming Down
3. Bloody Kisses (not the digipak)
4. October Rust
5. Life is Killing Me
6. The Origin of the Feces
7. Dead Again
1- Bloody Kisses
2- October Rust
3- Slow Hard and Deep
4- World Coming Down
5- Life is Killing me
6- Dead Again
This is because BD is a solid album, best singles, best songs all around and this is before the drugs and Type O were at their peak.
Damn thats a good intro also great vid
