This is a great camera, I've bought mine last December to replace the Lumix G9 and it's been great. About the 6k open gate- technically this camera hasn't got a 6k open frame video recording mode, but it does have a burst shot mode (for photography) that will record the whole sensor in 4k or 6k video, depending on your preference, at 30fps for 15 minutes. With sound. Your computer will see the file as an mp4 movie file. I rarely use it for video as I'm primarily a photographer not a videographer but I know it's there if and when I need it and it's perfectly usable. I've set mine to Burst Shot mode II on the top left dial. Take care :)
It’s fantastic. But the open gate recording and auto focus really drive the upgrade. But all cameras are great these days! Just down to what tool works best for you!
Do you do any photography in low light? I’m considering upgrading from Fuji (as my XT1 and 18mm f2 struggled indoors at night recently photographing people). I just need some sharp pics and focus locking on indoors at night - I would get the 35mm f1.8. Just worried about the supposedly iffy autofocus.
Define best image quality? It is a well known flaw of the contrast detection AF used by Panasonic in de S5...and GH5. So you should not be surprised. If you can focus images should be really good
@@Mandeologul Thanks, am considering getting a FF, still keep my M4/3 gear. Decided against Canon rp. This might be a good option as I have Panasonic caméras.
@@Lepewhi it will feel really familiar if you have other Lumix cameras. I agree it will work great with stills. I can certainly try and get a video on it, but there are some good ones out there showing the photo side!
I love my s5 it has given me a good introduction to fullframe filming, I have a 24-105 Lumix f4 with the s5 for handheld filming it is absolutely brilliant 😎, the focus is not that dramatic you just have to know the limits of the system and work with it. I switched from a Sony 6500 two years ago, also a great camera. For me the s5 was a great start for filming in vlog 10bit, for my way of filming the stabilizer is more important. i used the s5 with a 35mm Zeiss flektogon which is brilliant in body stabilization. MADRID URBAN SAFARI LUMIX S5 Zeiss Flektogon 35mm: ua-cam.com/video/mC1l4R1MySg/v-deo.html Of course a s5M2 or S5M2 x has great autofocus and it’s working super with adapted canon lenses but the s5 is great option to start filming in fullframe / apsc 10bit vlog.
The camera community is single-handedly turning the word ‘value’ into a countable noun, I find this pretty strange. It could be ‘a good value purchase’ or it could be ‘incredible value’ ‘a value’ seems bizarre. These little linguistic things are so funny. I suppose it’s important to remember that language is malleable.

@@unbroken1010 Problem is the same my friend :) If you set AFL+AEL to OFF in menu and then switch from AFC to MF /AFS via the back dial or via the lens button the camera reverts to AEL lock via shutter half press instantly ( Leica Q3 and other Leica SL do the same ... #1 reason I stopped shooting Leica M cameras ... also the reason you can not shoot Zeiss ZE lenses on Pana/Leica with ANY adapter )
I got the S5 OG and a Blackmagic video assist 12g for $1,300. It's effectively a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6k for about half the cost.

Hows the autofocus?

Best camera I’ve ever owned. I’ve had no reason to “upgrade” to the S5II

@@Ttjam1 I unfortunately do not. I only have taken a handful of photos, and use a flash in low light
@@Ttjam1for stills the AF is okay really. For casual video it's terrible

Not true. Its great if you set the custom autofocus feature correctly. Use 225 area mode, that's a good start.
For the price, the value, i think i'll not sale mine. Still great value, couple with my new s5X. Love lumix !!! Best of all
I have one too, awesome camera, a settings video would be great!
@@delarey40 I have it up for sell, so I will work on getting a video up soon before it sells!
Hi, great video.
I really would appreciate if you do a video of your S5 settings.
Im new in making videos and it really would help me.
I can do that!
@mipmipmipmipmip Not sure, but should be pretty close to the same.

The GX85 and GH4 are incredibly cheap because they are old. Many people should be able to afford them. The lenses are more expensive though
DO A SETTINGS VIDEO🙏🙏🙏
the original s5 has no 6k open gate but it has the 6k photo modus. this creates a 10 bit 6k open gate video! you can use it like any other video file
But I think that it's only 30fps
No, the S5 6K photo mode is not open gate. It has a big crop.
@@aiseurnae5976 The 6K photo mode is more like 5K 5184x3456 - plus you can do 5.9K RAW with a Ninja V.
@@elementary8963 Yes indeed. But we can't do Open Gate internally, it is why I keep my S1.
@@aiseurnae5976True. I'm waiting to see what the next S series camera is like. Hopefully 60fps without crop etc.
