I have a timing light and wonder if I put the light on any of the older OMC outboards with magneto ignitions would I get results that would indicate how the timing was?
I wish I lived closer T Mike . I have a 1971 25 hp Evinrude sportster Low hours runs great but I can’t figure out why it doesn’t seem like it has a lot of power ? Compression test read 120 top cylinder 118 bottom cylinder . Sparks seems good . Pulling my hair out . All way up here in Indiana .
Hello, I. Just got my first outboard e a 1973 Evinrude 25hp, and I'm in the process of restoring the engine. I've never done anything like this before as I realized the engine is seized up after sitting for years, and there is dirt in the cylinders. Please help me with any advice that can get this old outboard running like new. Thanks
Great channel t mike. I'm working on my outboard. It's not vintage but learned a lot from u. I found a wire from my power pack came out of the female side. And the stator side of the plug male side their is 2 bare wires is there any way to it without buying new power pack. And the don't make the stator and wires anymore
What if i have the same problem but already replaced everything and also did a fine tuning alignment of the points? Still have intermittent spark on bottom cyl. 😵💫 Whole new ignition system and no joy.
@michaeljsimon thanks, I'm not sending you this motor. What I need is another idea. Trust me when I tell you, every part of the ignition is new and verified by meter readings. Everything is perfect, yet the intermittent spark on #2 has not changed since I started. No change at all.
Good morning. Love your videos! You helped me & my friend diagnose a 1968 6 horse Johnson and learn a lot from your videos. Just wonder how that timing light works on the outboard is all- you can see the motor skip easier with the light? I know on a automobile there are marks on the harmonic balancer. Trying to learn what i can. Thank you again for your help. Have a good day
@@michaeljsimon Hi again thank you for your knowledge! I seen the skip in the spark but thought the timing light was to see the motor skip easier also as well. Keep up the great videos. Good to learn and you have help me more than you know! Thank you again. Have a good day.
My 1969 6hp Johnson broke the pull start plastic pinion gear that engages to the fly wheel all I can find is the entire thing I just need to replace the plastic pinion gear
Those motors are strong thanks for the video

Thanks for the kind words - can’t help much since I have limited experience with CDI ignition. Good luck
Would have liked to see the measurements you did on the coil and points... So it was dirty points?
Yes
