Sadly, this was on the night when Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis. This episode was interrupted for news updates of the situation but eventually resumed and was shown to completion.
And in true Gladys fashion, she takes it to the next level: becoming a carnival barker, and selling tickets to "See the neighborhood witch in action, in her natural habitat!"
CANDID CAMERA was on CBS Sunday nights at 10 PM ET (just before WHAT'S MY LINE?) 1960-1967, so it was off the air (but well-remembered) by this time. CANDID CAMERA was back in syndication not long after.
When Darrin said that "Her mother is a bad witch", the short stare that Sam gave him said it all. 🙂 I "love" some of these comments. Alice Pierce would've done it better. Well, the poor woman died. Actors/actresses bring their own interpretation to a role. Gould kept the crazinest that Pierce brought to the role, but Gould added her own tweaks to the role. FYI. Alice Ghostley was asked to replace Pierce, but declined, since Pierce was a good friend of hers. People, i guess, see the person who portrayed a role first and when they leave, due to either health or death, people sometimes disrespect the replacement, or are downright cruel to their replacement.
I'm a little disappointed I found this video. It has my favorite line from the entire series but it turns out I've been mis-remembering it all along. "I'm not a bad witch...I'm a good witch." "Her mother is a bad witch." I always though it was "I'm not an evil witch, I'm a good witch. " "Her mother is an evil witch." Which I think sounds so much better. It's still a great line though!
I like this episode because before I saw it I always wondered what thier friends and such would say if they did find out about samantha. The only thing I wasn't fond of was that it was a dream but I do understand that if it wasn't a dream that would be the end of the series.
Things mostly *seem* like agendas when folks are stodgy and set in their ways. Imagine 50 or 75 years ago, how people felt about changes in their familiar world and “those darn kids today”.
I always feel like there was something edited out between Samantha's wave and the chicken disappearing. She waves to the side of the chicken, not at the chicken, and Mrs. Kravitz seems a little overwrought for just a chicken disappearing.
It was never consistent. Most of the time she twitches her nose, then somtimes she needs to use a spell and then there are hand gestures. Also she claims she can't undo the witchcraft her Mother, Clara or Uncle Arthur does but that also somtimes is ignored by the writers of the show ! Well however I still love watching this show when I need a good laugh !
It's Mrs. Kravitz, not cravist. The first Mrs. Kravitz was played by Alice Pearce, who died in 1966 of terminal cancer. The second one was played by, Sandra Gould. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Considering this was just a couple of years after the TV censors would allow a man and wife to be in the same bed together. Previous to this, if they were in the same bed, at least one foot had to be on the floor. How times change.
Unfortunately, nothing could be done about it. The 'Gladys Kravitz' Alice did was a bit more hysterical over Sandras' version, who seemed to be a bit more standoffish than anything else.
G. ABNER! ABNER! There's a elephant on the Stephens roof! A. I know Gladys, take your pills, have a drink and take your nap. It'll be gone when you try to show me it anyways. It always is. G. Are you trying to O. D. me? A. No that happened right after they moved in and Sam brought you back. G. I knew it!
What’s kind of interesting is the first actress, Alice Pearce, played the role for 27 episodes over two years. The second actress, Sandra Gould, played her for 29 episodes over five years. I knew that Gould was on the show far longer, but Pearce appeared in almost the same number of episodes. I like them both, but I’m partial to Gould. I never saw the Pearce episodes growing up (they weren’t in color and weren’t rerun), and I liked how Gould’s interpretation of the character was cattier. The producers were smart not to have Gould just try to imitate Pearce’s performance.
Samantha: "I'm not a bad witch! I'm a good witch!"
Darrin: "Her mother is a bad witch!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
YES Dick York said that retort so hilariously!
Dick York said this was his favorite episode of Bewitched.......this episode first aired on April 4, 1968
3️⃣ days before my 1️⃣0️⃣th birthday 🎂 ❗ And now you know I'm old. LOL

This CHARMING tv show will always BE a classic, a true MASTERPIECE!!
Definitely a masterpiece ✨️
I looooooooooove this show .
I think it would be funnier and more true to Abner's character if he had said if you have to take anyone take her
I was thinking the same !!😊🤣
Yep I was thinking that myself
So pleased to see Gladys get to know, even if it is only a dream sequence.
And in true Gladys fashion, she takes it to the next level: becoming a carnival barker, and selling tickets to "See the neighborhood witch in action, in her natural habitat!"
The writing was amazing
And the acting , Elizabeth Montgomery was so talented
It was, but by season 8, they must have run out of ideas; many of the episodes were remakes of earlier ones in the series.
this scene would have been more satisfying with Alice Pearce
I couldn't agree more!!
Could possibly have been the best scene of the entire series she would have jumped up in excitement
Yes, absolutely!
Way better. Her reaction here was underwhelming, especially after all this time and their history.
She's the best Mrs Kravitz.
Her mother is a bad witch got me on the floor🤣 also I like the old characters better
Wow is Candid Camera really that old? love dream sequences in tv shows always hilarious and this one is a good one
1948 was the first episode.
yes allen funt

2:00 Her mothers a Bad witch 🧙♀️ lol
Mrs. Kravitz was classic.
The first Gladys Kravitz was better.
@@jameshorton7496 Amen to that! She was a real comedic genius!
@@jameshorton7496 It's personal opinion. I like the second best, Sandra Gould.

I was only 10 when this first aired, but remember being smitten with EM’s good looks. 64 now, same opinion.
Notice that Darrin is sleeping 😴 on the side that Samantha normally sleeps 💤 ❓ (I think it's because of the 4️⃣th wall, or lack of the 4️⃣th wall)
I wouldn't be able to sleep

I prefer the original Mrs. Kravits.
It was so sad that she passed away. :(

"ABBB-NAH!"😄
My niece, who was about 6 or 7 when Bewitched was on Nick at Nite, always called Gladys "The Abner Woman." LOL
"That's it, Gladys, back you go to the psychiatrist"!
She could put a spell on me ANYTIME!! 🔥
You do know she died something like 20 years ago .. right ?
Dang. Was hoping this would be the REAL resolution to that story thread. Was it ever really wrapped up?
Back when shows were for fun and the whole family not to push an agenda or to be perverse.
Things mostly *seem* like agendas when folks are stodgy and set in their ways. Imagine 50 or 75 years ago, how people felt about changes in their familiar world and “those darn kids today”.
Elizabeth looks like Meg Ryan & Nicole Kidman
Her mother is a bad witch 😂😂
She looks absolutely gorgeous in that nightgown 😍

Sam and Darrin sleep in 1 bed. How progressive for TV.

never missed an episode
Her mother's a bad what, Darrin? Careful, man
Very Nice
Notice she does hand gestures to do magic? She ordinarily twitches her nose

@Frances Hicks So did Elizabeth Montgomery.

they had candid camera tv shows back then? lol
Candid Camera started in 1948.
Back then. That settles it. I'm old. Candid camera was actually the name of the show.
Is their son Lenny in the basement practicing guitar?
Mettez en francais merci
Sam's my favorite witch, & ✨✨✨✨✨❣️💥💚🙋
Mrs. Kravitz is not played by the same actress from 1st and 2nd seasons

Fab episodes too good
Plot Twist: Elizabeth Montgomery was actually a witch.
Now that would’ve been my perfect dream; waking up in bed with the beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery. 😍
I hated Krawitz. I found out later in life, I'm supposed to dislike them. That's what makes the story work the way it does..
Abbnah
I never knew Lennie's Ma was a white girl!
That's what she get! Always got her nose where it should not be.
