It amazes me on my own Amazing Journey that I know every single note of every instrument in this album, especially this cut. I played trumpet from childhood through college and then taught myself flute so can hear some stuff, but mostly it comes from listening this almost 24X7 when I was a o so very young. Thanks again (if I didn't say so before) for posting these.
Townsend's rendition of "Amazing Journey" is awesome. He was the supervisor of the recording with the LSO, and I'll bet that either he did the rock tracks alone or had help from John Entwhistle & Keith Moon. Also, in the "It's A Boy" section, Keith plays the French horn as Sandy Denny sings her part.
I came to this version before the original. And after growing to really dig this, hearing the original - let me down. This version is powerful as a stick of dynamite. Many lines are crisper and just plain better performed. The brilliance of the work is the vision and songwriting. It isnt the guitar playing of Townsend.

Correction, John Entwhistle's the one playing the French horn!

Better than nothing, but the sound is awfully compressed.
