    They have an equal mix of heavy & soft tunes, often mixing the two styles together. You said you know “Change” that song is also on the softer side dude lol

    I’m enjoying your reactions on this Deftones journey. Please continue. I’m waiting for you to get to “the spell of mathematics” and “radiant city”. I’m curious to see if you’ll turn into a fan before my eyes.

    I have to admit I didn’t like the first third of this song at first listen. The whole “illusion” part I found a bit cheesy. From then on when he goes “I’m leaving you tonight” the song takes off and became probably my favourite on the album. The bridge part that’s all twinkle effect and then back into heavy is so so good!

    This may be the greatest song of all time, after Rosemary & Change. If you have 5 songs to put in the time capsule & show the next generation, this is one (Hearts/Wires, Smile). It's rhythmic & meaningful. Pomepeji & The Spell of Mathematics would have a shout too. Those would more include the clobbering to your face that's too your liking. This is an epic album.

    They are the first to mix scream with breathiness. “When girls telephone boys” is a good one bro. Checky check

    I love the album, I agree when you said “I like their more off the rails stuff.” Is the album better than White Pony probably not, but it’s still music from them and the whole album just comes together cohesive which I guess I enjoy.

      Every album has a mix of heavy & soft, he just doesn’t have a good grasp on their sound yet, they’re not the easiest band to immediately get in to

    • @jamminjona1086
      @jamminjona1086 3 роки тому +1

      Weksn Snsen and I love it all, what’s your favorite off the album?

    • @weksnsnsen3583
      @weksnsnsen3583 3 роки тому +1

      Jammin Jona10 that’s hard, I find myself wanting to hear the album in full every time, but probably either Pompeji or Spell of Mathematics, you?

    • @jamminjona1086
      @jamminjona1086 3 роки тому

      Weksn Snsen it’s an easy cop out to say half the album but it’s a real toss up between “The Spell of Mathematics” , “Pompeji” , “The Link is Dead” or “Headless” it’s real hard to choose. I’m not gonna lie it was underwhelming for the first listen through the album but I slept on it and in the morning played it and dude, it slaps.

    • @weksnsnsen3583
      @weksnsnsen3583 3 роки тому +1

      Jammin Jona10 honestly, I’ve felt that way for almost every album on first listen, probably because it never is exactly what I expect but I always grow into loving them. There’s a lot going on, so you just pick on more & more every time you hear it. On first listen I thought Ohms was meh, on par with Gore. Now after several listens I think it’s one of their best albums ever

      their worst album, as Chino pretty much acknowledged: uproxx.com/indie/chino-moreno-reviews-every-deftones-album-ohms-interview/

    • @sharinglungs3226
      @sharinglungs3226 3 роки тому

      bernman23 hardly. There’s some great songs on that album. I still like some of the more intricate musicianship on it which reminds me of when bands first start off they want to prove themselves to the doubters so they try extra hard. Bored, 7 words, engine no. 9, lifter, one weak, fireal all excellent songs.

    • @bernman23
      @bernman23 3 роки тому

      @@sharinglungs3226 Did you read the article I provided? Chino acknowledges himself it was a poor album by their standards & they weren't good musicians at the time. It's not intricate. It's very raw, basic in its musicianship, & lyrics. They evolved over time. Fans should appreciate the improvement. If you still can get more or similar joy out of their rawer, juvenile selves, that's personal taste, but don't pretend it's something almost inherently positive about that version of themselves.

    I love all the songs on Ohms, but probably the weakest track for me off the album.
