Digitally timed at 10:59. Considering the elements - he slowed down near the line, they were in rugby kits, awful conditions, crap start, no training etc, 10:59 is pretty impressive. Albert looks like he's strolling compared to the others, imagine if he had had a bit of training and the right conditions? I reckon he could go close to 10 flat.
If for some unknown reason you ever watch this I want you to know I fucking love you. Genuinely heartbroken when you left saints. 😢😢 heeeeeyyyy Darren Albert ohhh ahhh
I got Albert at a hand-held 10.7 seconds, and he slowed up at the end. Could have been a sub 10.5. Not bad considering Martin Offiah was once clocked at 10.8.....I still think Albert is a blonde haired git. Him and that bloody Andrew Johns......
+Peter Hunter I agree more or less re. the hand time (and strongly re. the Andrew Johns git accusations) but not that it would have been a sub 10.5 had he continued on through the tape. People speculate on Usain Bolt's 2008 Beijing 9.69sec 100m and say ' he could have run 10.4-something' - This is grossly overstimated and mathemeticians who actually analyzed the 10m fractions concluded he actually would have only matched his 9.63sec London 2012 performance-and keep in mind Bolt shut down much earlier and more biomechanically disruptively ie. twisting and chest thumping over the line from 85-90 m (hahahaha!!!!) compared to what Darren Albert did here (a few shortened strides only). I averaged out at around 10.6 secs when repeatedly hand timing this video. Generically speaking hand times are 0.2-0.35 secs faster than the real time as measured by laser. Knowing my own personal error with hand timing is between 0.18-0.25 so I think this is a genuine (and pretty comfortable looking) sub 11 sec run-I'd suspect a 10.75-10.85 result. Pretty impressive for a professional footballer on a cold, wet night in cross training shoes! The real story here though is who the hell put Mick DeVere in this race???? (hahaha!!!) and where's Brett Dallas?
By this time Dallas was in England playing for Wigan. I doubt he would have beaten Albert here, but he could have given Frew and Loomans a run for their money. When Dallas won the Rugby League Sprint at the 1993 Botany Gift it was only over 75 metres. Lee Oudenryn only finished 3rd in that behind Dallas and John Minto from Souths. Given the proper training at his peak, Albert probably could have run closer to 10 flat, but we'll never know.
Don't know how accurate this is, but I put it in sony vegas, from gunshot to Albert's torso hitting the line, I make it 10.22. Given the rain, apparel, rugby physique, no sprint training, track conditions and many more things, that is an astonishing time.
Well no one is faster than Matt Seers remember the chase of Seers against Mullins. Seers had to turn around as Mullins was already in full flight. He chased him down. That to me proves he is the fastest man in the league. If you want proof again his run to score Against St George
@@santouchesantouche2873 no, it's equivalent to 10.07 for the 100m, bearing in mind what Irvine was running on he would easily be a sub 10s 100m runner on modern tracks.

its a gee up lol but i know what you mean/ In 2012, 18 of UK's fastest rugby league players raced the 96m length of Headingley pitch to find the fastest man in Rugby League. The winner was London Broncos' Omari Caro, who just edged out two-time winner Jamel Chisholm. The winning time was 10.28 seconds.

We should have one this year 👍
In terms of who actually was the fastest player in top flight rugby league, Oz or the Super League, at least the right man won this race.
Fuck wit name
Go to 1992 Lee Odenryan of Parramatta 10.2
if you're talking about his race with offiah at old parra stadium, you might find the time was closer to 11.7.
Didn't Martin play the first half whilst Lee was on the bench ??
On the pitch Ophia ran round him
End to end darren albert was well the fastest man in super league! 👍 👌
Brett Mullins was my favourite
Can you please upload all of Darren Albert's tries for St helens
Just intent on finding the joint'... I digress
What times they get
Devere was a champion player but he is probably the slowest winger I ever seen play lol
Centre
@@samuelgamato971 I agree, he's also the slowest centre I've ever seen play the game

+AlphaAcro Don't get me wrong but Albert was faster than Roberts is, and Roberts is fast. And no way is Roberts faster than Ken Irvine was.
Holden308
Actually no. James Roberts is faster than Albert.... Irvine might of been faster but we will never know.

Ken Irvine, the 'daddy' as fast sprinters go in RL, 9.3s for 100yards reportedly.
Why wasn't this electronically timed? It was 1999, not the dark ages!

Fastest man in the Rugby League world, I guess Rugby League only exists in Australia

Should've done the race with second rowers.
Acccording to Vossy they did and according to Vossy they were eliminated
Why didn't they time it?
They just said SUV 10 for Darren but I doubt it, I personally noone ran 100 m under 11 seconds at that time, Darren probably ran 11.5
Sorry, I can't take this serious, lol.
Where was ET and Russell Richardson?
Jakey Tedesco Or Brett Howland for that matter.
i think addo carr would win out of all the players now.
Albert would blitz past him
I still reckon Brett Dallas was slightly quicker than Darren Albert.
