Wow, Samuel! I just did it on my iPad Pro using iMovie app and it worked! - screen shot my note taking using the black template - added the video on my existing video as CUTAWAY - highlighted the video (note taking) and then clicked OVERLAYS then I added volume on STRENGTH and voila! It worked just like how you present it!
🎯⚡💪🏽Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. 05:07 Don't know about iPad, but if your tablet screen records sound as well: 1. turn screen record on with sound...then turn on the camera. 2. While both are on, make a loud noise or clap before you start talking. This will cause a spike in the recording's "audio visual". 3. Use the spike in the audio visuals on both the screen recording and talking head to sync them in your editor. 4. Turn off, delete, or turn down the audio for the tablet/iPad recording in your editor. Do this (2 - 4) for every segment of the video you will be using.
Your video literally saved my bachelor thesis product. I was planning to incorporate this style of drawing in my video, but it just would not work in premiere. Then I was notified about your upload, watched it, downloaded the Final Cut Trial and spent the night editing everything in Final Cut. The results were perfect! Thank you so much!
First of all: Yes, Premiere also had additive blend modes, although they are names differently (linear dodge). Secondly, have you tried doing this in Premiere with an iPad recording? The problem is not the blend mode, the problem is due to some color space mismatch that happens. There are lots of articles about it and no easy fix. Black on the iPad recordings will have a purple tint. Therefore, the blend mode will not 100% work.
@@LukeBares oh cause premiere is bad at handling variable frame-rates, the screen records on apple devices using the native screen recorder are not recorded using fixed frame rates, i normally run them through the adobe media encoder first or handbrake if you prefer that, then use it in premiere
If you record the audio n the iPad well, you will find it easier to match up the two clips. It’s easier to line up the clips by looking at the audio spikes.
Great vid. Little Editing tip for Samuel. Once you put the screen recording above the primary timeline, highlight it and hit Command+G, which will make it a secondary timeline. This will make it just like the magnetic timeline so you don't have to cut, drag etc. Just blade and delete and the gaps will fill automatically 👍
I’ve been professionally making videos for 12+ years … and even just the title of the video made me realize how I can work this unique idea into my videos. Nice dude!
I really needed this tutorial at this time 🙂 Thank you 🙂 I am creating a course and this is a much better way of presenting my writing notes and speaking to the camera. This is a massive help and solution for me 🙂
Thank you so much for making these videos, Samuel! It’s amazing to get a glimpse into your creative process! I love your eye for the little things, I would really love to see more of this! Something like the process of designing a presentation would be great, or even how you plan a video! Keep up the phenomenal work, its always super inspiring :)
Great video! I have two tips to further improve your workstream: 1. Screen record your iPad with Mic on (long press record button to activate). This allows you in Final Cut Pro to sync the two clips perfectly. 2. When you change the blend mode to Add, simply change the Opacity below in order to bring back the black background. This will save you time by adding the extra screenshot. You are welcome ;) Tom
Can this be done if the editing software has no blend mode as well? Would it work by placing the ipad recording and simply changing the opacity? Wouldn't that also dim out the text, though?
Oooooh thank you so much for this! I have always struggled with how to add visual elements to my videos to illustrate certain concepts. This is amazing and it helps answer so many questions.
I’ve been looking for an app or video breaking down how to do this for quite some time now. Thank you and thanks to the YT algorithm for coming through for me!
Great video! You could do this even faster by recording audio with your iPad screen capture and then creating a synchronized clip in FCPX from the 2 recordings (select both of the clips from camera and iPad, right click on either and create synchronized clip). You can then place this synced clip on your timeline and edit like it’s one clip.
Hey man that was really amazing if you planning to do such videos more often than i would request you to make a video about how you add normal texts in the video like you did in 5:31 also how did you zoom in, in the FCP screen recording, how to do transition between two shots, how to keep the audio seperate from video , etc 🤘🏻
Nice tutorial. One suggestion - instead of a screenshot of a black image, you could also use an adjustment layer (google to download) and add gausian blur and a color board (reduce highlights). This adjustmeant layer takes up less space on the timeline (looks the same as a title effect), and is much more customizable.
For the Premiere Pro brothers out here, Premiere is kinda bad at handling variable frame rates so it’ll look glitchy, and with artifacts while the screen recording on apple native screen recorders are not recorded in fixed/constant frame rates, you can use the Media Encoder or handbrake to convert it into fixed/constant frame rate then use it, which is normally how i do it. Hope it helps out the other Premiere Bros here!
Thanks for this. Any tips for using Premiere Rush on iPad Pro? Just started playing around with it & hoping i can use it … or another app you’d recommend on iPad? Gratitude.
Thank you for the awesome tutorial and information! This is such a simple, production-lite way to add illustrative graphics without lots of post-production.
Oh wow, this will definitely come in handy. I tried this on my phone. Using inshot app and the sketchbook app. Understanding the blending options, help me achieve this. Thank you. 😊
This was exceptionally well explained with so much patience and detail where it mattered. You simplified the process into bitesize chunks of valuable, actionable steps that made it easy to follow.
Amazing, thanks! Have just tried it on myMac and it works perfectly with iMovie !!! just drag iPad screen recording above a recording with you talking to a camera, set is as a blue/green screen and manipulate with "softness" to make its less or more transparent.
Clever. On final cut pro you can sync the audio of the recording and the video from the camera, in that way the audio from recording and from the camera will be the same at any given time. On library, click the two videos, & sync clip.
Man this is something else!!!!!!!!! I am always struggling with graphics and with this I can do it easily, you just changed my UA-cam life, thank you so much for this 🙏
I now use Goodnotes with a rich black background (normal black is no good). Knocking the black to transparent. I also like the laser pointer and the laser ‘draw’ tool for live-streaming as there is no need to undo what you draw, it just goes away.
This is exactly how I theorized to do it before watching the video glad I got confirmation I was on the right track that gives me confidence in my editing skills
Thank you for promising that this process would be easy at the outset of your video AND keeping to that process throughout. I am a beginner to video editing and I WAS able to follow and understand your process. Kudos!
Excellent tip using the screen recording option. iMovie has a chroma key green screen option that can make the background color transparent for those who can’t afford the big programs.
This is so cool. Loved this. I wanted to add some handwritten titles to my videos and when I searched for it I couldn’t find the video explaining what exactly I wanted. Two weeks down the lane there! UA-cam suggests this video to me and this was exactly what I was looking for. I use Gilmore to edit so there is a bit of experimentation I need to do to find how I can use them in my editor. Thanks a lot for this. ❤
Great video. Nice work! If you enable recording audio on the iPad through its built in mic, FCP will sync the clips for you based on the audio. Aligning them manually is pretty easy, but it’s even easier if you just select the two clips and create a synchronized clip using audio to sync. Best regards!
perfect tutorial at the right time mate, I have had final cut pro but never took the time to explore the app and do any videos. your videos are truly inspiring.
